How many people here want to stop suffering from misanthropy?

I'm new here, just found out there's a word for how I feel, and I'm curious about all of these new people I just discovered exist.

I'm here because I'm trying to find a way to cope with my hatred and depression in order to:

  1. Be able to successfuly tolerate things I find fucking deplorable but can't change
  2. Be able to get and keep an education and job, surrounded by awful, abusive dickheads
  3. Be able to feel happy most of the time
  4. Help others to do the same if they want to, if I can

Why are you here? What are you looking for/hoping to find? How are you tolerating being drowned every day in an ocean of bullshit?

Do you ever feel as if you’re not living life to the fullest bc of misanthropy?

I had to ask myself this question. And while yes, I choose not to partake in activities with large crowds or put a lot of effort into making new friends; I generally just don’t like people. I understand I’m curious about human behavior without wanting to actually be around them. They’re draining as hell and I rarely will meet someone I find intriguing or worth my time. I feel like a snob most times but why am I made to feel bad about setting boundaries for myself? Most people are horrible anyway and have no respect for humankind.

In the end, I do live a life I enjoy despite inevitable hardships. My solitude accompanied by the presence of my loved ones, access to remote nature, and having to rarely interact with people in person brings me peace. I’m content in my world.

Trying to avoid nihilism/misanthropy

The longer I see the many problems of the world go unchecked, problems like human rights violations, the rise of fascism globally, climate change and environmental ruin, just everything that's going on rn. This combined with monotony of everyday life, wake up; go to work; go to school; come back; wash, rinse, and repeat, makes it harder to keep the faith. I feel like in many ways this monotony keeps me from making any real, tangible positive impact on helping the world towards a better future. Every day it seems a little more difficult to keep believing in this better future and a society where all human beings are afforded the dignity and decency they deserve. A society where people are liberated from power imbalances, and the systems and structures that create these power imbalances are dismantled and brought down. Do any of you share these sentiments and feel yourself struggling to not become a nihilist or a misanthrope?

Nationalism and misanthropy: contradictory or not?

I've always called myself a nationalist. I've always had nationalistic feelings towards something, first religion, then country, and now towards my ethnicity/race. My ethnic identity is a very big part of my personal identity, and it's been a very big help to bettering my mental health, because I feel comfortable in my skin (I've always somewhat loathed how I look, but now I gladly embrace those features that are typically found in my race).

But I've also had very misanthropic feelings for much of my life. Disappointment for my fellow man, never felt like I quite belong within my group, and have generally felt quite angry towards most of my people.

Are these feelings contradictory? Am I a massive holier-than-thou asshole?

PS. sorry if this post sounded a bit vent-y. This is indeed a very personal question arising due to inner conflict.

Misanthropy is not just a means to be an edgelord. It is also a critique humanity that can bring forth change.

Humanity sucks.

You cannot escape this if you look at life from the hourglass. Take a step back; look at everything. People are causing pain to animals, they are causing pain to the planet. There is so much suffering and pain. Children by the age of 13 have a 80% chance of being traumatized some speculate. Billions of people and only a few are on top above us all laughing as we mindlessly chase the cheese on the treadmill.

I know my title is optimistic. But realize that when I say we can bring forth change, I have no idea if it will be good change. People suck and most everything we do sucks. The reality is, when you do something good for someone on their behalf, someone else finds a way to fuck it up in this society and that alone makes us misanthropists become hermits.

But if enough of us decide to all be hermits, not have children, and just fuck off, less violence will be in this world. Less corruption. It's idealistic but I like the idea. Not much bad happens if you stay inside and limit your contact with people.

What made me into a misanthropist was people, but I do not want to hurt people. I want existence as a whole to not be so much suffering. I hate people because they can be better but they choose not to be.

Misanthropy is which stage of grief?

After u have felt everything from loneliness to denial to depression and isolation to bargaining to despair.....sometimes repeating certain cycles over and over again,at what stage does the misanthropy sets in?

At the point u realise where u have reached a stage, and ur at what no human being should ever be,and u can almost see the bottom.....u reach a hand out from within the abyss, but the world has turned its back on u,even those whom have been entrusted from birth to protect you.

U may not have realised it yet conciously at that time, but it is at that moment u saw a glimpse of true human nature, selfishness and hatred borned out a deep seated pain... pure, unadulterated, instinctual,in its purest form.stronger than any maternal instinct, purer than the smoothest liquid gold whisky u have never drank.emotion stronger and purer than all the superficiality of the world.strong enough to form the essence of who u are.the mask of fear, vulnerability,

,.its not the fake little acts of kindness or altruism that tells u what a person is.it is not the mask or persona they put on their face.

The despair u hold in ur heart is that of the world.

Even the years later walking around in a limbo.....looking for what u never had.

Even love is a selfish thing.Ur looking for the ideal vassal to pour all ur selfish love in,to pour all ur preconception of what love is,to possess,to explore,to strip away the layers,to penetrate the very depth, the core of her vulnerability,I guess that's why men are phallic after all.her nape, the crust of her ear lobes.that is if u stop being a pussy.i guess a lifetime of

Misanthropy vs Practicality

Am I really a misanthrope? I don't want the entire human race to go extinct and I don't hate everyone, although I am very misanthropic by philosophy. We quadrupled our population in 120 years from 1900 to 2020. 2 billion to 8 billion. That's only 7 generations. And that's where I draw the line and where I believe we need to stop.

This isn't natural or healthy. We can't keep shitting out kids at a rate faster than resource production. But we keep doing it. I have visions of a healthier, kinder world where were are back to a 2 billion population. Let's not get bogged down by the moral debate. I don't want 6 billion people to die, I just wish they weren't there.

My solution is a one child rule that is strictly enforced. Have as many abortions or miscarriages as you like, but once you've crapped out a screaming brat, you need to call it quits. No 2, 3, 4, or 15 children households. Put a plug in it. The narcissistic desire to propagate your seed needs to end.

I can see a much better life for everyone if our numbers were wiped out by 3/4ths. We don't deserve to rule the world, and we have squandered what rule we hold. Our own existence is mostly suffering. Let us rebuild this wasteland through time. I know it won't really happen, but I can dream nonetheless.

Dealing with misanthropy

All my life, my environment has become increasingly hostile to me. Every time I post a comment somewhere in reddit it has a million of downvotes, and a million hostile replies. If I reply back, I get swarmed by a million sympathizers of the asshole initiating the violence.

In my country, a communist president was elected (and the other option was a plain fascist, supporter of Pinochet). I feel left out everywhere, nobody values my opinion or thoughts. I've been accumulating a growing anger and I have intrusive thoughts that are more frequent every day.

I like erotic art, and I've seen how it progressively is becoming a taboo in wester society. And all these issues are the tip of the iceberg.

Does anybody else here feel unwelcomed in this world? If so, how do you guys deal with these feelings?

Why is it acceptable to hate human beings? In other words, why is misanthropy so common and acceptable?

I understand that human-made problems are huge, or at least widely publicized. I understand that humans do many bad things. But why is it socially acceptable to hate the human race?

I mean, I've been hurt by others directly or indirectly, not necessarily any more or less than the typical person, but it's difficult for me to hate people as a whole. I actually have a fondness and appreciate for the human race and i marvel at the things that humans do, like go to space and make tall buildings and fast vehicles. I love humans' appreciation for art and music, and i love the symbiosis that humans can have with nature when and where it occurs. I find people fascinating even if i don't necessarily agree with their beliefs or actions.

Then I just find people in person and on the internet that just have so much built up dislike for people as a whole and don't mind seeing humans be eradicated from the earth. I just want to know why this kind of thinking is acceptable when, for example, wanting to see a particular race or even animal species be eradicated would not be acceptable.

Can misanthropy be overcome?

20 years ago, it seemed to me that the world is arranged reasonably enough. Now, thanks to the Internet, I know a lot more about the world, and this drives me into misanthropy, and this misanthropy lowers the quality of my life. A person should love others and the world, but how to love it if you see stupidity in everything? I see stupidity everywhere - in Russia where I live, in Ukraine, and in the West (although it takes different forms).

Philosophically speaking, it’s a little strange why this stupidity should depress me so much. I feel overwhelmed by the news when I find out that people are acting unreasonably, such as voting incorrectly, because I fear that such stupidity will lead to problems in the future. But if, for example, a major nuclear war had occurred in the last century, it would not have increased my misanthropy, although in both cases the situation is the same - people cause suffering to themselves and to each other. Or, for example, if some crazy genius creates a virus that will cause a real terrible pandemic.

I have a hope that the world can be made smarter by creating political institutions in which smart people often come to power, and the β€œideological pyramids” in society do not flare up. This would solve my problem.

My way of enjoying misanthropy

I believe speaking well and with ironclad confidence is key. People live inside their god-damn phones all the time that they're intimated when someone can actually speak well. In the real world. Shocker, I know.

I generalize, but you get my drift.

So I secretly laugh at the "career" woman, the "successful" business man or the guy who brags about his girlfriend (to whom he is a slave to), because 8.5 out of 10 times they don't try to bullshit me with their delusions for long or ever.

I believe they are afraid, because a person that speaks well and with domineering confidence is prone to ask questions. And questions these fake f*cks hate the most. Questions shake at their house of cards, the lie they live with.

I get much peace of mind and enjoyment (at the cost of others) from it. Some people still make me fume, of course, but troubles like this are minor in comparison to the rest of my social life.

Since this sub gave me more than one golden nugget of advice, I share my personal view of enjoying my misantrophy. I hope it helps some of you in one meaning way or the other.

Have a meaningful day, my fellow misanthropes.

I wonder what misanthropy would look mainstream

We all are aware of misandry, misogyny, and racism (as well as others) rampant on the internet. There are several reactions to them: supportive, opposed, or neutral. It has influenced society in the past, and it still influences society today. But I wonder what misanthropy would be reacted to if it went mainstream. If society reacted, would some societies adopt it as a fundamental outlook? Would some organizations start up, espousing hatred for all humans? Would there be countries that would call out misanthropy? Lots of possibilities could happen, and especially with this time, where a lot of events are occurring, and shaping everyone’s headspace. So, to ask you, how do you think people would probably react? What events could occur because of misanthropy? Leave some comments down for your ideas.

Welcome to your daily dose of misanthropy. Presented to you by me...the host for tonight

Why am I such a terrible human being. I want to do the right things. Now I'm either not sure what the right thing to do is, or I just fuck up anyways. I don't know how to be a better person. Or maybe I do. Maybe I know how to be a better person but never do it because I hate myself so much that I'd rather live as a shit human being than do something to be better.

I don't fucking know anymore. I should stop caring about people judging me or leaving me because me constantly reminding myself to be aware of those potential outcomes will do nothing to protect myself from them. It'll only worsen my self esteem aggravating the entire situation.

We're all alone anyways. I like to remind myself that a lot. We're all trapped in our own minds screaming and frantically searching for some form of connection that will help us forget the fact that we're alone. We're too wrapped up in our own thoughts that we can't even rely 100 percent on our memories.. Just look at how a large percentage of false convictions are caused by eyewitness misidenfications.

I hate everything.

Why the fuck do I feel sick whenever I try to get myself to eat. I can't stop obsessively thinking about suicide and those bad memories and how I'm a shitty human being.

If I could, I just want to smash my skull against a brick wall, take out my smooth brain and scrub it with a toothbrush until I'm free from these parasitic thoughts.
