A list of puns related to "Edwin Hubble"
Whenever I read one of Lovecraft's later stories, I can't help but notice that he seems to be writing under the impression that the universe is just the Milky Way; I can't remember any mentions of other galaxies. It was during Lovecraft's lifetime that it was proven that the universe was much larger than had been previously thought. (The "Great Debate" happened in 1920, Hubble later proved that there were other galaxies in 1924.) Lovecraft was apparently a gifted amateur astronomer, so it would be weird if he didn't know that. It'd also be hilarious since he was also horribly wrong on the age of the universe (he liked the word vigintillions, equivalent in his time to 10^20. In reality the universe is only bilions of years old. Lovecraft's universe was almost as old as that of Hindu mythology, lol). Which is also weird, apparently Lovecraft was good at chemistry, so he should of known of the concept of entropy, and I think that 10^20 years is enough time for a universe the size of the Milky Way to reach heat death....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LITTLE LITTLE ASTRONOMER~!!!
Famous Astronomer Rap battle.
I'm reading a book in which the author makes a brief, one-line mention that upon his death in 1953, Edwin Hubble's wife did not hold a funeral and no one knows where his body wound up. Intrigued, I looked into it. There are some crackpot theories that his body was somehow "incorporated" into the telescope named after him, and this:
>He died of a cerebral thrombosis on September 28, 1953, in San Marino, California. His wife, Grace, did not have a funeral for him and never revealed what was done with his bodyโit was apparently Hubble's wish to have no funeral service and be buried in an unmarked grave, or that he wanted to be cremated. As of now, the whereabouts of his remains are unknown.
I guess it's not super mysterious, but still a curiosity. Any thoughts?
