A list of puns related to "Dispersed camping"
Some friends and I are wanting to try out dispersed camping this spring and are looking for recommendations.
We are staying at Hocking Hills in June with our 20ft camper and are looking for a place to park for an extra night after that trip. Does anyone have any ideas for a place we can park the camper for an evening, do some hikes, explore, etc.
Here's the reason why I can't find the land I used this website. To look at BLM land and as far as I can tell there is no BLM land on the east coast. If there is it's not called the same thing I don't understand why there's so many different public lands called different things.. why not just call it public freaking land lol.. I did find a national park which is usfs land like an hour and a half from me.. that's not helpful though I'm trying to camp close to me. I found a place that is still a good distance away from me but it's not an hour and a half away... That I may end up using. But I'm trying to find public lands in Myrtle beach. Or at least on the outer edges of Myrtle beach.. I don't know how to find this land. But the different types of land are BLM DNR USF and just public land in general.. I need help finding this land in Myrtle beach. Because from what I'm reading when you're driving down the highway and there's a forest along the side of the highway is it good chance that that's public land. And if you can find a path that goes off into that Forest you can drive down that path pull off and pitch a tent.. but you have to know that it is public land and you have to double check that there aren't any rules preventing you from camping there. But I should be able to see this stuff on a map.. the forest that run along the highway.. I should be able to find that s*** on a map. Where do I find these maps lol? Do I need to look into GIS maps? I took some GIS classes at a tech school when I was in high school.. so I know a little bit about how to make GIS maps.. but I would imagine that there has to be a map out there somewhere mapping public land in every state.. there's no way that the states themselves don't have maps of all of their public land can someone help me out please? And if someone can help me out and at least teach me how to find the maps I am planning on creating a new service / website/app that will map out all public land XD. I mean the couple websites that are out there are all right.. or the couple free ones are all right. But they're very limiting.. and I plan on offering it for free. Maybe I'll find some way to make money like with paid services or ads or something but it's going to be free. I think it should be plus I think you can make more money by offering something free and you can by selling it.
I've been buying some camping gear recently and planning on getting into camping, but specifically I'm interested in dispersed camping in the wilderness. I did a bit of looking and a lot of places require reservations and specific sites. Dispersed camping is the opposite of that, you pick the site yourself and just keep a certain distance away from any trails.
Basically the title. I've never been out to Caddo National Grasslands, and want to either disperse car camp or short (2 miles or less) hike-in. Anybody have experience in that area? Easy to find spots? Areas to avoid? Any thoughts?
I have a small old hatchback and would like to do some winter camping and hiking this season. I was looking at Allegheny National Forest, specifically Minister Creek, since I'm coming from the Ohio border. But I'm not sure what the road conditions usually look like this time of year and don't want to push it with my car. I would love to hear your opinions and suggestions of any accessible sites that are near a trail or two. Thanks!
Whatβs the general consensus on driving into a state campground hand pump and fill up your container and go on your way?
Is it kosher? Am I cheating?
Most of the time I try and disperse camp close enough to a creek or body of water. Typically I hike to the source, filter or treat the water and take it back to my spot.
Some mornings I pack up and drive around to scout out another site to set up camp. If Iβm lucky, I will find a creek or stream while on the road and I can fill up. Some times I have to find a creek on the map and head in that direction. My path has gone by state campgrounds a few times.
Does anyone have recommendations for dispersed camping locations to go camping with a RTT in Wisconsin, Michigan, or Minnesota?
Im looking for free land to primitive camp in the Astoria area. Preferably within 1 hour drive. I know people dont like giving away their spots but a general area with some directions would be greatly appreciated.
I plan on making a trip to Death Valley National Park soon and wanted to take part in the dispersed camping locations. However, I drive a Ford Fusion (sedan) and was unsure if this was a limiting factor and whether or not I should stick to a campsite. Also, the map I found that showed the dispersed camping areas was a bit confusing so if anyone could clarify who has experience I would appreciate it.
I've gone through lots of old posts and tried to read up on dispersed camping in Michigan, but I just don't know where to start or what exactly I'm looking for. I'd like to disperse camp in the lower peninsula (ugh, I know. Living south of Ann Arbor doesn't really give me many options [that I know of]).
The closest state forest land to me would be near Midland, however I've also read that any state-owned/public(?) land will work including state game areas. I'm just a bit confused. I believe I know the criteria, but is there a tool or map that takes all of this into account and would show me boundaries that I can and can't camp in?
I am new to Van Life and I am wondering what people's experiences are with the 14 day max stay limit in national forests.
Specifically, am I likely to run into trouble past 14 days if I'm frequently switching between different camp sites within the same national forest?
Thanks much for any advice anyone can offer!
August 27 6:30 PM Back of van parked along Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area.
Sept 11 Back of van in Florida.
Look at the decals on the back. Then compare to the back of van on September 11 in Florida. Three new decals were added after this video was made in Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area. This could indicate that Gabby placed decals somewhere else at later date?
Anyone have recommendations for a secluded area for dispersed camping I can pull my travel trailer to? Kofa National Refuge looks awesome. Hoping I can pull my trailer right up near a mountain, do some shooting, atv riding, etc. Please DM if youβre willing to give up a good βspotβ. I can trade you for some of my favorite spots up north in Coconino. Thanks
I and a few friends are going up to lake murray OK in two weeks.
This isnt my first time there, we have camped on this lake since 2002-2012. nearly every year, twice a year, once in the summer and once in the winter. We stopped due to life.
I havent been there in along time. My question is this, we used to just find a spot and camp..typically the rangers would find us and charge us per tent.
Can I still do this? I really dont want to use a ready to go camp site like buzzards roost or marrieta's landing.
TLDR: In oklahoma, lake murray state park specifically, can I camp anywhere I want legally as long as it doesnt say no trespassing or no camping?
Iβm planning on parking at the 24/27 trailhead and doing the first loop, turning left rather than going straight to keep it to 12ish miles and avoid the Dutchmanβs Creek loop. Going over three days for a chill mental vacation.
Questions:
My biggest question: are fires allowed? The website for the park mentions a firewood permit, but I am unsure as to what that means. My guess is it means collecting firewood, but again, Iβm not sure. As far as I know the burn ban is over in NC.
Second, are there any specific areas in the loop I should be concerned about? I wish there was a way to post the image of the map in this post. If need be Iβll post it on my account and drop a link in the comments?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Worth noting that Iβve been here before, but that was roughly 8 years ago.
I am looking to do a two day trip from Stinson to the summit of Mt. Tamalpais, however i am worried about the campsites being first come first serve with easy access by car. Is dispersed camping allowed in the state park, or does anyone have a good resource for info like this? The park website is very vague.
Thanks!
Hello everyone, my brother and I are going camping withing the next week or so, and I was hoping yall had any tips or tricks as to how to survive in the wilderness? Anything will help, from how to find and make cordage, to which trees can be best used for tinder or even what should be included on my survival supply checklist. Thanks!
My girlfriend and I are looking to take advantage of the upcoming long weekend and go camping for a couple days, probably Thursday-Saturday. We are in Phoenix but are willing to drive ~2-ish hours or more to find some nice (hopefully) private dispersed tent camping.
We've camped in Flagstaff and at the Mogollon Rim and loved it, but I think we would be too cold at night. We have a 4WD truck, 20 degree sleeping bag, & plenty of cold weather gear. Also bringing 2 yellow labs with us that love cold weather, but I've never camped with them in temperatures below ~45F.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Hello just curious if there are any really neat dispersed or primitive camp areas around north utah, also curious if there are any spot like that in or near Zions as well (for a spring camp trip)
How are the dispersed camping options at Hocking Hills? The area looks pretty small on the map, was wondering if it's worth spending a couple nights there, or better off going somewhere else. Thanks in advance.
I will be coming from Los Angeles and bringing my young son and dog in my 4x4 4Runner.
Ideally I'd like a spot that has an easy/moderate dirt trail that leads to a zone where we could find a space to camp away from it all (and others) for a couple of nights.
Please let me know if you have suggestions! Thank you
I'm coming to CO (150-200mi < from Denver area) this weekend to do some camping, hiking, and photography. I'm renting a campervan that only has RWD... So I'm curious if anyone has any dispersed camping spots they know of that would be accessible by such a van? I don't need any hookups or anything. I've found a lot of spots that the van could get to normally but I have no clue what the conditions are like on all of these roads at this time of the year. Would any National Forest rangers know of good spots if I call the service?
I'm moving to the Cincinnati area this winter. My backpacking buddies mostly live around Indianapolis. Since I'll have a new starting spot, I'm hoping for new locations for short weekend getaways besides the Charles Deam Wilderness in Bloomington.
Red River Gorge is beautiful, but a bit far away from Indy to justify a short Sat/Sun trip.
Thank you in advance!
Hey everyone Iβm looking to find a good spot to set up camp a couple times throughout the season thatβs close to main lodge and allows for camping. Any recommendations?
I plan on making a trip to DVNP and want to take part in the dispersed camping aspect. However, I drive a Ford Fusion (Sedan) and was wondering if I will be able to drive into the available locations.
