A list of puns related to "Diplomatic bag"
Irish Examiner reports that in just 10 months (May 2019 to March 2020) the Department of Foreign Affairs reported that no less than seven Irish diplomatic bags went missing. One would be considered careless but seven of them going missing in such a short amount of time is unprecedented.
For anyone unfamiliar with these they are bags used by nation states to transport documents and other items between the home nation and its embassies around the world. The contents are protected under international law and they cannot be opened or intercepted. If one State opened another States diplomatic bag that would be considered espionage. (in)famously in the 1980's Charlie Haughey used diplomatic bags to transport his Charvet shirts from Paris back to Dublin.
Because of their protected status under international law they are very attractive to criminals to traffic drugs or any contraband. In 2011 the Gardai found a fake South African diplomatic bag sent to Ireland from Venezuela. Once they had established it was fake by its markings they opened it up and found 20kg of cocaine. They delivered it to the address marked which then led them to a cocaine mixing operation in an apartment in Navan, Co Meath where they found a further 7kg of cocaine and arrested 3 Nigerians for cocaine production and trafficking.
So this latest news that seven Irish diplomatic bags have gone missing is very suss. Anyone handling them in airports or postal facilities would know stealing them in transit comes with consequences likely to end up in prison. The ever secretive Dept. of Foreign Affairs are not saying on what routes they went missing. But given the numbers involved this is beyond careless and there is a fair chance we have an Irish diplomat working in an Irish embassy abroad who is in cahoots with a local criminal gang.

Diplomatic bags, used for confidential communications and all manner of spy movie hijinks, are generally inviolable: the host country is not allowed to search them (exceptions may apply). The couriers who carry them have a level of diplomatic immunity.
Let's say I walk around London with a briefcase labelled "Plurinational State of Bolivia - Diplomatic Bag - Not to be opened without due authorization", but I do not claim diplomatic immunity, and if a police officer is duly empowered to search me (as a private citizen) I allow them to search the bag, am I breaking any law? Would it be illegal to travel with such a bag, again without making any claim of immunity or inviolability for myself or my bag?
so when i was in highschool, i joined a loss friend group. in said friendgroup was this one kinda chubby guy i tried to befriend. we talked a but but then the later years of highschool, he started acting wired. anytime i tried to chat with him, his responses would be diplomatic bag. this was his response to everything, it was diplomatic bag, because diplomatic bag, and so on. eventualy i just stopped talking to the kid. later on when i was fresh out of collage, i started looking back and trying to contact those i use to know in highschool. mostly to see if anyone was interested in catching up. i found this guy again and went, sure maybe he is over that childish stuff. so i message a hay its me and lets catch up. his first response.... diplomatic bag. i blocked him cuz honestly it wasnt funny then and wasnt funny now. he always thought it was funny and laughed at my frustration over the situation.
My first published crate! Any feedback on bits that I've missed that would make it easier to use is appreciated.
I recently got annoyed at some !Send
types that I needed to hold on to while in async code, so I wrote a library to wrap them up in such a way to make the wrapper Send + Sync
.
It works by running a worker thread and all operations on the types behind the DiplomaticBag
wrapper are run on that thread.
Note, it has a bunch of unsafe code in it, and there are a few bits that I'm not sure are actually sound because I couldn't find any documentation on what you're allowed to do with !Send
types (the nomicon doesn't go into quite enough detail).
Edit: In an effort to stave off further confusion due to my woeful explanation, I'll quote u/sebzima4500's description of how this works: > They are not conceptually sending the values between threads, they are running all the code managing the value (including the code that initializes it in the first place) on the same (global) thread.
i am tired of this and will now mod this completely out of the core game:
on continents i have 6 ok sized cities and south of me is the dutch and wilhelma. i have a city state south of me in control with 10 envoys and not a single other civ involved (rare right?). then holland goes to war with that city state. i am trading 2 routes to it and its critical. ok, so i have to go declare a war of protectorate and take grievance for that (this is where one starts to get bitchy, because its firaxis logic i am trying to play by). i attack holland but because amsterdam is so big i go for their only other city and take it. you cant keep shit in civ6 because it will rebel in 6 turns so i raze it. i dont want to raze it but in 6 turns its going to go hostile. razed. then i turn my focus on the capital and take that out but it takes 15 turns almost! he is magically making districts while he churns out top units, another discussion another thread...
taking out a capital for a justified war means shit in civ6. now because of some dumbass trigger in the game every civ denounces me because there is i think a -115 grievance for taking out a capital. all negative comments to me...
this is no different than at the end of ww2 if the allies got fucked globally for taking berlin. you are penalized for ending an aggressive warmongering civ.
now sweden surprise war attacks me from the north while i am concentrated on the south. now the game is going to be a pure wargame because i am going to take back my city... and that triggers more war mongering and more grievance.
i will be damned if civ6 isn't stuck on stupid when it comes to justifiable reaction to bully wars, really ISIS diplomacy, and you cannot respond in force.
wasted another 20 hours of gaming because i haven't loaded the right mods to cancel so much of the core game's weird, unbalanced, irrational diplomacy.
oh i had to spend my diplo points to call an Emergency which because i took Amsterdam capital all other civs have negative views of me. Canada did say they would help but we know civs dont really contribute to wars... so its just me and Canada.
not a single civ remembers that holland attacked my city state without cause and in response the game has soured completely.
anyone know how to remove grievances? is there a diplo mod you all use that makes this type of imbalance more tolerable? thank you for reading through it all, next bourbon on me...
It's hard to know what went wrong, the pastry cream wasn't runny, it's jiggly.
Also after I mix the heavy cream to stiff peaks and fold it to my whisker pastry cream, it's still fluffy.
But when I try to fill my donuts, it became runny almost every time. I tried to lower the % of heavy cream and still no luck.
Perhaps I should make a bigger hole in my piping bag for filling donuts?
When some people might wonder why I'd bother creme diplomat for donut filling, it's because the taste isn't too sweet and it's light. Unless someone would tell me there's another good filling ideas for donuts that is light and less sweet.
Thoughts?
