My TBM mom emailed me and my brother this article of the BYU devotional last week. I know I'm late, but there are so many things that are absolutely infuriating about it.

Here is the article my mom emailed me

This was my response: "This is in response to a ton of members leaving the church in the past few years after they read cesletter.org. Here is a presentation from a member that came from direction of a general authority. https://youtu.be/EP3GJeYIN3s

β€œIf we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed.” PRESIDENT J. REUBEN CLARK"

Here are some excerpts from the article she sent:

>β€œThere may not be anything out there (of that nature) I haven’t read,” he said. Reading this material always left him with a sense of gloom, which inspired him to write a response to these antagonistic claims.

This is telling the members that there is nothing for them to research since he has heard it all and nothing is big enough to cause concern. No one should waste time researching as it will just cause them to feel gloomy.

>Now is a day where deception is everywhere, and the spectrum of deception is broad. It ranges from attacks on the Restoration, Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon, to those who claim to believe in the Restoration but are disillusioned with doctrine that conflicts with shifting attitudes of the day.

This reinforces the myth that everyone is out to get Mormons and are making stuff up.

>Elder Corbridge explained there are primary and secondary questions when it comes to the Church. The primary questions must be answered first, as they are the most important. They include:

>- Is there a God who is our Father? >- Is Jesus Christ the Son of God, the Savior of the world? >- Was Joseph Smith a prophet? >- Is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the kingdom of God on the earth?

>In contrast, the secondary questions are unending. They include questions about Church history, polygamy, blacks and the priesthood, women and the priesthood, how the Book of Mormon was translated, DNA and the Book of Mormon, gay marriage, different accounts of the First Vision and so on. >β€œIf you answer the primary questions, the secondary questions get answered too or they pale in significance and you can deal with things you understand and things you don’t understand, things you agree with and things you don’t agree with without

Perhaps a stupid question, but is there an article or book devoted to arguing that such-and-such philosophical problems are LEGITIMATE AND REAL? (rather than prone to skepticism a la Wittgenstein or Rorty or others)

Actually, besides books and articles, just tell me: What are the strongest arguments that such-and-such philosophical problems are LEGITIMATE AND REAL? What is the POSITIVE CASE opposite skeptics about philosophical problems like Wittgenstein or Rorty or others? (Not objections against Wittgenstein or Rorty per se! And please don't merely say that "Well even these skeptics have a philosophical position!")

From what I know, most articles and books are devoted to arguments for theories and solutions to problems. Problems themselves however, often arise quickly--poof--from, say, a simple question or a bunch of conflicting intuitions.

But are there texts devoted entirely to arguing that some problem or other (Or perhaps most of the well-known "great" problems?) to be indeed legitimate and real rather than pseudoproblems or mere linguistic confusion or some other reason?

Also note I am not after the causes of philosophical problems per se, but their justification.

The motivation behind the question is that despite being passionate in Philosophy, I feel a growing suspicion of the legitimacy of the enterprise and its "problems".

And remember the Whole ZOMBIE STOCKS thing ya?

Well maybe we have been missing the bigger picture here...

The theory was that Zombie Stocks were stocks that had been Naked Shorted / Cellar Boxed to death by Market Makers so that they could win the bankruptcy jackpot and never have to pay back the mass of shorts they had against the stocks...

But what if there is more to the story...

WHAT IF... NAKED SHORTING / CELLAR BOXING WAS JUST A NEW MORE ADVANCED WAY TO CREATE DISTRESSED COMPANIES THAT PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS COULD THEN TAKE OVER FOR $0.10 ON THE DOLLAR AND DRIVE THEM INTO THE GROUND???

2021 Year in Review: A Look Back at TSCC's Year (Long)

Ah yes, it's time once again for that most cherished of holiday traditions when we pull up a chair by the fireplace, comforting beverage in hand, Minky blanket over our legs, and pause for a moment to reflect on TSCC's past year . . . then immediately spill our drink all over the carpet as we fly into an uncontrolled rage at the sheer amount of nonsense we just witnessed.

Some years it feels like an accomplishment just to make it to the end of the year, and 2021 certainly feels that way. It was a year defined by choices: masked vs. unmasked, vaxxed vs. unvaxxed, return to church vs. worship at home. With so many clamoring voices, it can be hard to know what's best, which is why we always default to the tried and true: no, not the still small voice. We are referring, of course, to loud laughter and evil speaking of the Lord's anointed. It's never let us down yet, which is why we're eager to jump right into . . .

January

After banning the word "Mormon", cutting church to 2 hours, modernizing the missionary dress code, and cozying up to other religions, church leaders look forward to taking TSCC even more mainstream in 2021 . . . only to turn on the news six days into the new year and see Captain Moroni waving the Title of Liberty at an illegal attempt to overturn a democratic election and overthrow the U.S. government. Although the Book of Mormon Captain Moroni was very much in favor of democratic elections and defending the sitting government against a group who wanted to overthrow it, Pres. Newsroom explained that today's Captain Moroni -- like the church itself -- had regrettably grown much more hardline conservative and quite a bit kookier in his old age.

Originally enthralled with the idea of God choosing a doctor to lead them during a pandemic, TBMs quickly turn on Dr. Prophet Nelson after he releases a photo of himself receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. TBMs attack Nelson's photo op in online forums, accusing him of falling for the lies of the deep state, and worrying that Bill Gates could now follow Nelson through a secret microchip. However, independent observers rated this last fear as "Highly Unlikely" after Bill Gates himself said he'd rather use Windows ME as his operating system for life rather than follow the prophet in any sense of the word.

February

Despite claiming for years that it supported the civil rights (OTHER than marriage, of course) of LGBT individuals, TSCC nevertheless issues a formal statement opposing the Equality

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

[Video Games] Cube World: The Indie Sensation Turned Eight Year Long Disappointment

Video games, in case you don’t know, are pretty complicated to make. But by the early 2010s, the indie scene began to blossom as new titles independently created and published by developers garnered enormous success. From platformers like Super Meat Boy to experimental projects like Braid, it became easier than ever for independent creators to enter the industry as it entered the new decade. Of course, the indie scene is also no stranger to failed and underwhelming projects. And despite its ambition and scope initially launching the game to internet stardom, Cube World has become synonymous with disappointment and development hell throughout its eight year (and counting) history.

New Spawn

Cube World first began development in June 2011, created by a developer by the name of Wolfram von Funck along with his wife, Sarah. Initially, announced on the TIGsource forums, it already began catching headlines a few weeks in as Wolfram (or Wollay as he’s more commonly referred to) would explain his vision for the game. It was clear Minecraft was his main inspiration, promising a procedurally generated world that the player could explore to their heart’s content while slaying monsters and delving into dungeons. Initially, he pitched the title as a sort of hobby project, but awareness would only grow over the next few years as Cube World became much bigger than what most probably imagined.

Soon, the creator would make his own website for the game, and his Youtube channel quickly amassed a solid viewership as the project progressed rapidly in scope and complexity. By 2012, he had already garnered a strong fanbase, and it was clear this was far more than just some attempt at recreating the burgeoning success of Minecraft. Despite its blocky exterior, Cube World played much more like an Action RPG, with exploration and quests rewarding players with new skills in their chosen class and better equipment. More focus was placed on fighting monsters, learning the ins and outs of the simple combat system to defeat enemies while traversing the massive world.

[Marvel Comics] She-Hulk and the 2010s: How getting put in a coma was just the start of an awful decade for Marvel's jade giantess

> Introduction: β€œToday, I'm judge, jury, and executioner.”

(photo for the mobile crowd)

In the late 1970s, Marvel's Not-So-Jolly Green Giant, the Incredible Hulk, was starring in a hit TV series. Known today for its incredibly melancholic piano intro and being the debut of Lou Ferringo as the depiction of Hulk, the series would run for eighty episodes between 1978 and 1982. As the series went on, Marvel began to fear that the show would go the obvious route of introducing a female Hulk counterpart. Wanting to have the rights locked in just in case of that eventuality (and because Hulk showrunner Kenneth Johnson had done that very thing in prior show The Six Million Dollar Man, Stan Lee would be tasked with making this character- his final original character until 1992's Ravage 2099.

Jennifer Walters is an timid attorney whose cousin, Bruce Banner, happens to have a gamma radiation condition which makes him dangerous to make angry. When the two meet, Jen is caught in the perpetual crossfire between the Hulk and the military, leading to Bruce being the only viable blood doner to save her life. Reluctently doing so, Jennifer gains lessened versions of Bruce's powers, but is able to control them to a greater degree. Growing to love the newfound lease on life that her powers gave her, Jennifer adopts the mantle of She Hulk,

Jen quickly became a beloved character during the 1980s, helped by a great guest tenure on the Fantastic Four during the John Byrne era which led to him tacking a solo series focused on Jen. Jen's biggest trait at the time was her more lighthearted and jokey personality, which often involved skits in the comics of Jen being aware she was a fictional character- years before Deadpool ran that joke into the ground so deep the Mole Men filed a complaint. Jen would even butt heads with the comic's version of Byrne and his creative team for the wacky situations they'd throw her into. This even extended to the covers, where Jen threatened the audience to support the book or admitting she was just posing provocatively to attract the eye of the reader.

Jennifer would spend the 80s, 90s and 2000s amassing a ded

I Took My Influential Nazi Conspiracist Dad to a Family Therapist: This Is What I've Learned About Conspiracism in America

This is the script of a video essay I posted on YouTube for the one-year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, which also happened to be my 30th birthday. The essay covers my dad's career as a prominent force behind the scenes in American conspiracism for the last 20 years, and it's inspired by the stories I found here on QAnonCasualties. I hope it can help people understand what's going on in the hearts and minds of their Qs and what we can do to fix what's happening in our country.

You can find the video essay itself on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/5-bDdogszyI

You can find my second essay here: Conspiracists Believe Their Fears, Not Their Theories

You can find my third essay here: Resisting Conspiracist Gaslighting

My Dad

My dad refuses to wear a mask. He can manage leaving it drooping under his nose when he sees a sign outside a store, but he’s unwilling under any circumstances to let it cover his face. Naturally, he’ll never get vaccinated either. So, to stay in line with state mandates, the family therapist he had agreed to meet at my request needed to get creative.

I made the hour-and-a-half drive back to my hometown to pick my dad up on a fall afternoon, and, for the first time in nearly a year, we spoke together on our way to the park where the therapist was waiting. Once there, she led us to a pair of wooden benches, far enough from the paved path to keep us from being overheard but still able to see grad students jogging with their dogs and retirees taking an afternoon walk.

This was family therapy in the time of COVID. A few sandwiches short of a picnic, confronting the culmination of my father’s 20-year career as an influential conspiracy theorist.

My dad’s life story is a diorama of the Boomer experience. He grew up in California’s 50s and 60s, the son of an abusive father, with no ideology until he decided to prove himself by joining the army during the Vietnam War. Between basic training and receiving his first deployment, he befriended a hippie college student who first flipped the switch on his political awareness as an anti-war liberal.

He went AWOL, running away to Canada, on the way meeting a young woman who was herself on the road with a carnie from her home in the midwe

From zero to German Goethe C2:GDS in 9 months: my journey, tips and tricks (Part 1) /r/languagelearning x-post

*I started writing this article more than a half year ago, then I stopped for a long time, just to come back to it lately. Sorry for the mistakes, but I just did not want to go over this Leviathan of an article again*

Hey,

Two weeks ago, I have passed C2 certificate in German Language - Goethe-Zertifikat C2: GDS. (GDS = Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom ~ The Highest German Language Diploma).

https://cdn.imageupload.workers.dev/T0Gsv77L_goethe.jpg

Some quick facts:

- I started studying by myself German in September 2020 and I have written Goethe C2 exam on 10.06.21 (9 months),

- I did not attend any structured course, but I had ordered 87 hours on Italki in order to practice speaking; the average cost of class was around 7-10$ per hour, so a total of ~800-1000$ was spent.

- I had pretty busy life beside learning German – I was 5th year Med Student,

- I did not spend any time whatsoever in German-speaking country – the first time I had an opportunity to speak German in a β€˜real conversation’ was in the day before the exam,

- I have never used a grammar book,

On the other hand:

- I am used to learning and grinding a lot,

- I have language learning experience.

I will try to write this post in such a way that it could be useful for other language learners – to share my experience, the obstacles I have encountered and tricks I have invented in order to overcome them. You can just see below what could interest you and just read this part.

I will structure this post in the following way, according to the β€˜stages’ I went through: (1) groundwork, (2) functional efficiency, (3) β€˜fluency’, (4) exam-specific preparation. In each of those I will try to elucidate what techniques and materials I have used and some useful tricks I have used.

The techniques and workarounds could be extrapolated to other languages, so those are the problems I have worked around:

  1. Groundwork – the grind – β€˜dry’ learning without much use of a β€˜real language’ – September/October 2020

a) Learning vocabulary – what to learn, how to learn

a.a) How do I learn the gender of the noun?

b) β€˜Micropronounciation’ – correct pronounciations within a single word

c) Which grammar (and HOW) should I learn?

d) What about cases?

e) How to find time to study? How much should I study?

f) How to remember what I have learned?

  1. Functional efficiency – the fun begins here – starting to ha

Do you think the people who have gotten the 2nd anointing have a swingers/sexual deviance community? Like do all the closeted gay guys just fuck each other, and all the couples swap spouses after they get the 2nd anointing? I think back to a talk given by Wendy Nelson about sexuality in marriage, and it seemed that she kind of hinted that she let RMN swing for their 10th anniversary. Just a thought I had.
