A list of puns related to "D20 Modern"
Not sure if anyone plays the Apocalypse rules for D20 Modern, but here's my small Blogger for the game I'm running for my wife. She loves the audiobook version of "Red Sails," so we're starting a campaign.
I decided to choose Exodus RPG which is based on d20 Modern. I don't have any experience running this system, but I have DM'd multiple games of 5e which is a distant cousin to this sytem.
Got any tips? How hard should I study the dozens of skills that the system has?
Will mostly be using 3.5 / d20 modern systems with slight changes. Games will be played through text on discord. Players will start at level 2. This is the premise of the campaign
Prologue --------------------------------
Stonerock was a quiet small town in rural Midwest Missouri. The date is November 29th 1986, and Sheriff Darrell Lewis has reported the 6th disappearance just this week, making that the 15th this month. In a large city this may be a common occurrence but in a town of 2,000 it has the citizenry rather spooked. Further disturbing the people, is the fact police have seemingly no leads presented to the public.
A small group of concerned citizens has organized a meeting at the homes of one of the townspeople.
Can reply or dm character ideas as application. If you have any questions dm or reply here
If you've ever wanted a hardcopy of one of these d20 Modern books (or want to replace your well-worn copy), now's your chance!!!

I have 2 questions about wording in the modern d20 handbook
"Purchase DC: The DC for the Wealth check necessary to obtain the raw materials to craft the poison, or to purchase one bottle of solid or liquid poison or one high-pressure cylinder of gaseous poison. A bottle holds four doses, while a cylinder holds enough gas to fill a 10-foot-radius area."
Does this mean you can purchase the ingredients to make a poison for the same cost as the poison itself (on the black market)? That is for one bottle which seems to contain 4 doses (" If the Craft check succeeds, the final product is a synthesized solid or liquid poison stored in a bottle (containing 4 doses) or a gas stored in a pressurized cylinder"). I'm quite confused on that one.
My second question is reguarding the trick talent that the smart hero gets
" Trick: The Smart hero has the ability to temporarily confuse a target (a GM character) through the use of ploy and deception. The target must have an Intelligence score of 3 or higher to be susceptible to a trick, must be within 30 feet of the hero, and must be able to hear and understand the hero. To play a trick on a target, the hero must use a full-round action and make an Intelligence check (DC 15), adding his or her Smart level as a bonus. If the Intelligence check succeeds, the target can try to think quickly and ignore the trick. The target resists the trick by making a Reflex saving throw (DC 10 + Smart heroβs class level + Smart heroβs Int bonus). If the saving throw fails, the target becomes dazed (unable to act, but can defend normally) for 1 round. "
I just cant wrap my head around what it means. If the hero succeeds on his intelligence check then the target can try to ignore the trick. What? Why? That makes no sense. Maybe it means that if the smart hero succeeds he can't try to ignore it. Side note, i am not sure what a trick would look like thematically.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Using the d20 Modern 5e Conversion my group is planning on doing an open world campaign. It will be mostly player-driven, emphasizing on player interactions, with events during downtime and an overarching campaign. There will be multiple GMs to allow for more session opportunities.
We'll be using the rules as written, the 27-point buy system, and variant rules that focus on realism and survival. Some of these rules include: Injuries (DMG p272), Rest Variants/Gritty Realism (DMG p267), and Slow Natural Healing (DMG p267). Other mechanics that demonstrate the nature of the campaign will be added, such as Fear and Horror (DMG p266) and Sanity (p264).
During session zero you'll create a survivor with the guidance of the GMs and be divided into groups; or if you have friends you may choose to survive with them instead. From there you'll operate from a base of your groups choosing starting one week after the initial infection. Your goal is whatever motivates your character: to survive, to rule, or to save the world by finding a cure. Just a reminder-- this is a hardcore roleplay experience. It will be difficult mechanically and is not a setting of permanence. If this sounds like something that might interest you or your group please reach out to me. Thank you for reading.
This request might be a bit too difficult, so if I'm getting too specific with my request, feel free to broaden the scope until you think of something that works.
Our campaign is set in the modern day except with another world war going on. My players are a small band of mercenaries/private military contractors who are searching a long-sunken American battleship off the coast of California, hoping to recover an experimental weapon that was onboard when it sunk.
Now, my players have admitted to me they're getting kinda tired of 100% combat constantly, they want some political intrigue/social investigation. So I was hoping they could discover something that would create a mystery for them to explore when they get back on land. Something that would force them to talk to people (government officials, survivors of the battle, military brass) or sleuth additional locations to get to the bottom of what they found. But my forte is pretty much combat, I'm not good at this angle and none of my ideas really feel like strong enough plot hooks to get a mystery going.
Any GMs out there who are better at this angle of RPing got any good ideas?
Has anyone ever tried this? I loved the idea so much that I was sure that 4th edition DnD was going to use a version of the d20 Modern basic classes and then specialize from there.
I would have used either the advanced classes from the Urban Arcana campaign setting or tweaked versions of the Modern advanced classes like was used in the Dungeon Magazine campaign setting Iron Lords of Jupiter (i.e. a 'fighter' would use the 'soldier' advanced class with technological restrictions.)
Thoughts on this? Has anyone tried something like it?
How do you get your DMPCs to throw at the PCs? I've been searching for 2 days and haven't found anything anywhere to indicate a bestiary of any sort. Do you homebrew yours?
I'm getting a lot of share requests for my D20 Modern 5E Conversion. I think the old links that were floating around have expired, so I'm going to post it here in the hopes that this will come up when someone does a Google search.
I've been getting a lot of share requests for my old D20 Modern 5E conversion via gmail. Apparently the old link that's floating around has expired due to a security update, and I don't know where everyone is finding the link. Rather than address each individual request, I'm trying to share it in a few visible places so people can find it again with a fresh link. If you've ever used it, please pass it along.
This campaign ran for almost 3 years, concluding in 2020. Going from an IRL game to roll20 online. Some players dropped in and out for personal reasons sometimes changing characters and some treads were left unexplored but all in all it was a great adventure.

Hello one and all. I'm a DM of 3.5 D&D and D20 modern. It's been about a year since I've run or played D&D and I'm really looking to start up a new game or join a group as a player. I have played 5e once and have enjoyed it, but don't have any of the books. If you have any interest feel free to message me here. Thank you, have a great day!
So short version of this question is -- is there a game that is stylistically similar to d20 Modern but isn't rooted in the design sensibilities of 3rd edition D&D?
I've had this long-standing desire to run a game in the vein of something like Final Fantasy 7 -- by which I mean I want swords and motorcycles to co-exist within a gritty urban environment.
I always thought that D20 Modern/D20 Future was stylistically what I was looking for -- but mechanically it's rooted in that 3rd edition era that I'm not a big fan of
I'm looking for something with a light-to-medium amount of crunch with satisfying tactical combat. I'm not looking for generic systems like Savage World or GURPS -- I don't have an abundance of time to tinker or produce custom content.
Any suggestions?
I am a dungeon master for a group of four players. I have DMed several games and one long campaign (going on four months), but they have all been traditional DND fantasy adventures. I am relatively new to the entire concept of SCPs, but I thought they would make an interesting campaign and a nice change of pace for my players. I figured I should come to the experts to get some advice.
What SCPs do you think would be interesting in a TTRPG setting? Are there any plot ideas that spring to mind? If you were playing this campaign, what would you hope to see? Any ideas or thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does anyone play D20 Modern anymore? It was my first introduction to DnD and continues to be my favorite 6 years later. I want to start up another storyline but I don't know if people even play it anymore.
