[5e Guide] How to be a Warlord as a Sorcerer / Order Cleric. Now updated with robotic Entities and psionic Overlords!

Did you ever want to play a full fledged backline supporter only to find out that healing and buffing isn't as awesome since damage and crowd control is king? Now with this build you can finally heal, buff and add an enormous amount of damage to your group. How? Well by combining the magical might and flexibility of one of three Sorcerer subclasses with the buffing and damaging potential of the Order Cleric. Even better we can flavour it completly like a backline commander that shouts orders to his team. So let's take better look at this Sorcerer X / Order Cleric 1+ multiclass.

#Mechanics

Central part of this particular multiclass is the Order Domain Cleric's first level feature 'Voice of Authority (VoA)'. This feature allows one ally to make a reaction based weapon attack after we affected him with one of our leveled spells - that has been cast with a spell slot - allowing us to weaponize our support spells. We then combine it with the high flexibility of the spell list of these Sorcerers as well as their meta magic to super charge this feature. Central to this is the Haste spell which gives our martial friend an extra action and some nice buffs.

But let's look at a few examples for demonstrations sake. We start with a Twinned Haste which means that we can add three weapon attacks to the first round of an encounter since VoA triggers another reaction based attack. Be aware that VoA can only trigger once, even with a Twinned spell. That's whybwe only get three attacks. Next round we might want to cleanse one ally of an affliction with a Distant Lesser Restoration which nets us three weapon attacks again. In the third round we might want to shore up the party's health a bit and use a Quickened Aid. Ohh look, we add four attacks! Two from concentrating one Haste, one from VoA for quickening Aid and one from a Cantrip by using our Action. Nice. Now we wanna heal a little bit and throw out a twinned healing word. Uhh four attacks again. Awesome.

Or put otherwise, this build makes it extremly easy to supercharge your buddies with additonal attack by buffing them. And this just got more ridicolous with Strixhaven's Silvery Barbs and Vortex Warp. The former just allows us to force an enemy re-roll while also buffing one of our allies. This then trigger VoA which in turn allows our ally to make a reaction based attack with advantage. The latter? This allows us to reposition our ally and trigger VoA which is bonkers. You can basically always have your tank in

Explanations(ish) for Psionics

Disclaimer: To my knowledge there is no current fathomable justification for brainwave interactions/manipulation beyond the cranium. I also can’t comprehend how that would ever work.

THAT SAID, do you have any β€œtechnical-ish” explanations for the ability to read minds, have highly-accurate predictions, or at least sense the mental processes of others in a somewhat hard sci-fi setting?

I know I’ll annoy other hard sci-fi fans, but man-oh-man I really like the limited use of it in Phillip K Dick stories and the tabletop game settings of Netrunner and Traveller.

If this interests you and doesn’t sound fruitless and/or dumb I’d love feedback.

Thanks in advance!

Empath hive minds should make psionic ascension possible

The description of Empath says that "The mind can reach out and touch the minds of others, giving them a glimpse of our will that helps them understand".

Given that they have telepathic powers, I don't see why it's impossible for them to take the psionic ascension path. Maybe there'd be some unique flavor text for them stating that the mind's already existent telepathic powers have grown inexplicably, and that it does not know how or why.

I don't know if there would be different bonuses for hive minds, maybe it would increase the effectiveness of Empath alongside the usual bonuses?

I know there's mods to do this, but it'd be nice to have it in vanilla. What do you guys think?

"I see..." Walrider has accepted their report upon return to the city hall. Tall dwarf was gloomy and silent for some time, thinking about the whole situation. Nova picked on his growing anger and sadness - extremist attacks drastically increased with each successful monster problem solved. Team saw several lines of covered bodies, that belonged to the deceased peacekeepers.

"Situation is bad, isn't it?" asked Indra, feeling the mood.

"Like it could ever not be." Sentinel heavily leaned over the tactical table. "I called for reinforcements. Massive reinforcements. This damn city is just like a drunkard near the cliff - so eager to fall into it and yet has the audacity to bite the hand that tries to prevent it."

His knuckles cracked, as emotions valiantly fought with discipline and willpower.

"Twelve fatalities in two days. Locals distrust us, like we are the extremists and not those killing their neighbors. If this continues, curfew will not be enough."

"Then let's finish this before it gets worse!" loudly declared Mith, slamming her fists together. "We have one last district to investigate!"

"There is no reason to do it anymore." quietly stated Wallrider, turning his head to one of the doorways. Everyone, except Nova, stared at it in great confusion. "You may enter."

Humanoid that entered wasn't normal. He looked like a cadaver, but a very well-preserved one. Grey skin covered seemingly muscleless bones, giving it a rather uncanny look. Pair of deep, black eyes calmly looked at the guests and hairless head was covered by a cape. Slim arms were cuffed, but not very seriously. Each finger ended with a small talon. Death was reeking from the stranger, but not the rotten, cold kind.

"His name is Nokar Stembore, a revenant." Sentinel introduced the silent guest to the group, while slowly walking around. "He was cursed several centuries ago for many committed crimes and turned into this creature. Nokar sent me the letter when you all went for the Euclase Enclave."

"Greetings, problems solvers." even thou it was creepy, but revenant acted rather friendly. He smiled and kept all of his fingers connected. "Your labors have reached my home in the Gray Mane slums."

"I am Nova, an adventurer, and this is Indra, Mith, Wizardia and Geni, my companions." introduced himself psionic, to be polite. "How much do you know?"

"A lot, young one." Nokar felt very old. Like a massive castle built in ancient times or a venerable oak. Yet despite his scary appearance, re

How Do You Handle Psionics?

It seems like, RAW, the game puts everyone in a sort of no-win situation wrt psionics. Whether you let players roll it randomly or just say, "Fine, you can have psionics," there's no balancing mechanism to prevent the psionic character from being way more powerful (and presumably more interesting) than the other players.

What balancing strategies have you used to keep psionics in check? Or am I overestimating the power of psionics?

A child was born once, surrounded by magic and wealth. It was a warm, summer night, with no ill omen at play. But little boy wasn't complete - his control over arcane was weaker than others. Thus his life became a constant struggle, since the world around turned out to be a hostile and dangerous place, where daggers are behind every smile...

No matter how he tried, everyone around saw him as a disappointment. A little, barely useful pawn to discard later. No matter what child did, he was looked down upon and bossed around. Unanswered tears, filled with pain, only shed in the darkness of night...

But then boy got his hands on the book about mechanisms. Great joy had filled his heart, as he was rummaging in it's knowledge-filled pages. A weak magic user found another way to find recognition among his kin... and love...

But magic and technology never work together. Either spells were going haywire or machines broke, which only increased the pressure on the poor soul. As much as he tried, it still wasn't helping...

Then malicious voice told the crying boy how to "make it right". Desperate for approval, young magician did everything he was told. And on the big ceremony, that was sacred for his kin, he impatiently waited to show his creation to others...

But the one behind his back made its move, triggering a massive tragedy. The device that child created, a seeming masterpiece of engineering, exploded like a sun, annihilating boy's home and all his relatives. Like some sick joke, the puppeteer saved him and forced to watch the result...

Devastated, last member of his family wept for days in his workshop, that was outside of their late magic-filled house. Unable to deal with pain and anguish, child cursed himself and ripped his own heart, replacing it with a mechanical one. The Clockwork Heart...

Alone, emotionless and lost, he disappeared, with only his machines existing and wandering the world, looking for their master. Either they find him or rust to death - the finale won't be happy, either way.

Nova heard this story several times and now had an entire cast of Mecants performing it in front of him. Such tale was taught to every child in Celestial Ascendancy, to teach them not to listen to anyone except their own house members. And apparently to hit the road if they weren't good enough, gloomily deduced psionic. No wonder Mith left this swamp - while she was talented and strong, she was also different from the rest of her Familia. Pe

What kind of spells would you include in a Psionic Tradition?

I’m a huge fan of Psionics from earlier editions. Particularly, I’m looking to eventually run a 2e Darksun game.

I’m very excited about the upcoming Psychic class, as I feel it has some good flavor and cool feats. However, the part that disappoints me is that it doesn’t seem like Paizo is interested in making Psionics it’s own system any time soon. I’m assuming that the Psychic will be the closest thing we get to a Psion in the future.

I want to adapt some older philosophies towards Psionics into my 2e games. I don’t feel like I’ll need to change very much, but at the very least, I’ll want to separate Psionic Powers so that they aren’t considered spells or magical effects. Having a separate system around Psionic powers would be ideal, but I can live with powers being treated the same as spells in terms of needing slots instead of going with a point system.

What I want to likely change though, is the spell traditions they have access to. A lot of the Occult spells feel like they’d work for Psionic powers, but plenty don’t, and there may be more spells I’d want to add to a potential Psionic tradition.

Here’s where I need help… I’ve never actually played a Psion in older editions. I want to renaissance the old thematics of psionics into my games, but I’m actually not very familiar with what kinds of powers are central to the themes of a Psion. In the same way that Divine magic focuses on alignment abilities, necromancy and divination; Arcane having a wide range of abilities minus healing and alignment stuff etc… what trends are present in Psionic powers? Mental abilities are obvious, but I’ve also seen things from older editions such as energy rays, body morphing, stuff that I wouldn’t normally think of. What would a Psionic tradition be good at, and what would it lack?

TLDR; I want to make a new tradition of spells that represent the Psionic Powers of previous editions. What kinds of spells should/shouldn’t be in this tradition?

How do you limit powers (spells, psionics, metaphysics, etc.) in your game?

SHORT VERSION:

How do you limit mystical powers in your game?

(spells, force powers, psionics, whatever).

LONG VERSION:

So, depending on the setting, characters can have powers (magic, psionics, force powers, miracles, metaphysics, etc .). Unlike other systems which have built in "X capability per level" etc. D6 does not really have a robust method for limiting how many fireballs/force crush/mind controls etc. that a character can do in a game?

In low levels the lack of skill limits their use, but after a while - they get easier.

There are a couple of simplistic suggestions in some of the d6 materials, but I have not see anything more fleshed out.

(Note: I do not consider a story based "moral" method to be a useful mechanic - as it is incredibly subjective and not easy to use).

I was thinking about having any failures cause fatigue as a mechanic, or placing a limit based upon the relevant stat of the game system.... but if anyone with more experience has an idea, I am open to it.

Question: how are you limiting spells/powers in your day?

(that is, how many times can a character use their abilities before they no longer can).

Euclase Enclave was very luxurious indeed. Not a single dirty, low-caste building, perfectly maintained roads without even a spot of dung or waste, bright and pompous standards on top of expensive manors, abundance of magical crystals and enchantments, etc. Serfs were working on their daily choirs, while all kind of high-class carriages transported nobles to their destination. All sorts of guards and creatures patrolled streets, reinforced walls and entrances.

All in all, this place was seemingly detached from the rest of the city. Scanning minds of locals has proven that for them extremism and unrest were just news from afar, not a problem at hand. Apparently locals haven't experienced any acts of terror and were relatively at peace.

"What is that?" asked puzzled Mith, when a strange automaton has met them near the entrance. It was a clockwork humanoid, made of steel, wood and bronze. Practical and effective design, outfitted with modular structure that could be change to suit different purposes. It didn't have a face, just a softly smiling mask. Synthetic body was dressed in a pretty costume, resembling one that butlers wore. "It is not magical, right?"

"Nope, it is not." agreed Wizardia, very intrigued by the machine.

"Welcome to the Euclase Enclave, dear guests." it's voice was mechanical, but not repugnant. Yet something strange was in it. This thing felt... alive. Nova, like a majority of his kin, distrusted sentient synths, since their thoughts can't be read. Unless you were a technopath, of course, but human lad had no training in that field. "I am Mecant, mechanical servant. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them."

Team didn't have a lot of questions, since Wallrider has provided them with all the info during the briefing. Nova personally was interested in a single one.

"Who created you, Mecant? What is your purpose?"

"I was made by the house of Plasm, of the Hundred Families. I personally have an important job of meeting visitors, giving directions and answering questions."

"Plasm?" look on Mith's face was very surprised and bewildered.

"Do you know them?" asked Nova.

"Yeah, but I thought their entire bloodline was centered around pyromancy, not science or tinkering. Not to mention that almost all of it's members were killed in an unfortunate accident. That Familia is suppose to be practically dead and powerless right now. And I wasn't that long away for them to recover." seeing confusion of the elven summoner was eno

Psionic Tabaxi Piledriver

While reading up on the Psi Fighter subclass from Tasha's I came to a startling realization; the 7th level subclass feature, specifically Psi-Powered Leap, can be turned into an effective wrestling move with just a small dip into Barbarian.

For this build, we'll need a Tabaxi.

We'll start off with 1 level of Barbarian for Rage (trust me, we're gonna need the Bludgeoning resistance).

Next, we invest 7 levels into Psi Fighter, taking Unarmed Fighting for flavour before picking up the Mobile Feat for an extra 10 feet of movement and Skill Expert so we can get Expertise in Athletics.

Aaaaand we're pretty much done!

When combat starts, we'll immediately rage and run up to the nearest medium-sized enemy we can reach. We'll throw a punch for a first attack to ensure that Rage doesn't end once our turn is over. For the second attack, we'll go for a Grapple, which should be easy enough to pull off thanks to expertise in Athletics and advantage on Strength checks thanks to Rage.

Now, we just have to hold on to our target until our second turn, which shouldn't be an issue unless the target has Misty Step or some other means of teleporting out of a Grapple.

When our next turn comes around, we'll use a bonus action to activaty Psi-Powered Leap, giving us a flying speed equal to twice our walking speed, which should be 40 thanks to the Mobile feet, so we now have a flying speed of 80.

Now here's where the fun starts.

As a Tabaxi, when we start moving, we can double our current speed until the end of the turn, bringing our flying speed up to a respectable 160 feet. Now, moving while grappling a target halves our speed back down to 80 but that's not a problem, because we have yet to use either our movement, Action, or Action Surge.

Using the aforemention movement, Action and Action Surge, we can move and double dash our way 240 feet straight up into the air, allowing us to deal the maximum of 20d6 fall damage to our grappled target. We'll take the damage as well, but thanks to the resistance from Rage, it's manageable.

This is by no means an effective strategy in the long run, as it requires an entire turn to set up and the bludgeoning damage from repeated jumps will immediately start to add up even with resistance, but gosh darn if it isn't a hilarious image.

So, exactly what can people who can use psionic usually do?

Like a Wizzard knew a lot of spells, Sorcer knew Metamagic, Bard knew songs, and Druid and Cleric knew Divine Magic

I only think of telepathy and psychokinesis about the concept of psionic. How did numerous psionic characters fight and what could they do?

Enchantment bloodline turned out to be a very terrifying weapon. Since affected things and effect on them could be almost literally anything, Ullaner soon showed mastery of the real magical combat.

"Quick, into the air!!!" previously solid, rock-based ground became soft and goopy, attempting to suck everyone standing on it like a swamp. Mith immediately turned into the dust elemental, which grabbed her friends with big hands, saving from the trap on the ground.

Ullaner grinned like a psychopath. Now elven summoner won't be able to use Gaze of the Beholder on her, unless she wishes to risk her companions' well-being. Two different simultaneous summoning were still beyond Mith's abilities.

After incapacitating one of her more (seemingly) dangerous enemies, Enchantress focused on the rest. Wall around them began turning to life, transforming into massive fists, that moved at high speed right at the team. Each of them was tipped with entire cascade of sharp spikes, that could ran through the rhino without resistance.

"HEEEEYAAAA!!!" Indra now used "Edge" in full power, cutting and bludgeoning homing semi-projectiles. She gracefully used every hard point of Mith's summoned body, navigating and retaliating with agility of a cat. She even repeated the waveblade trick when Nova got his "headshot", destroying some living boulders from a safe distance.

"That little kid!" in tandem with orc girl, Wizardia looked royally pissed and very serious. Her small arms were waving from side to side, casting spells at anything Ullaner was throwing at their merry party.

"Living hands! Spikification! Rabid cyclones! Animated windbeasts! Will-of-the-Wisps! Column bombs! Shredder! Marble hounds! Swamp diamondbacks! Grease tornado! Suffocating circle! Disintegration!"

"Muddy earth! Clayness! Dissipation! Banishment! Exorcism! Slice-and-Dice! Windshield! Headpats! Petrification! Stillness! Biosphere! Null-zone!" while both Enchantress and Wizardia fought silently, their minds were screaming names of spells above. Former was definitely shocked to see such strong retaliation from seemingly a mere juvenile, but latter being goddess definitely helped the case.

While providing positioning, Mith also tried to support them by dodging and redirecting attacks, but her main job was being a platform right now. Especially for the leader of their group, who did the most important job.

Pervasive Psionics?

One of the elements of Dark Sun that might prove tricky to adapt to Pathfinder 2e is the fact that almost every creature on Athas has innate psionic powers. I was recently reading through the optional rules and class feature variants from Secrets of Magic, and I wonder if the Pervasive Magic rule could be adapted to fit Dark Sun? For context, here's the rule in question: https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=1538

My thinking was this: define a spell list for the Psionic tradition, and apply the Pervasive Magic rule, but with Psionic as the tradition everyone gets. Having an agreed-upon Psionic spell list could also be helpful for other changes, such as adding one or more Psionic archetypes.

After turning back into his regular self, Nova began thoroughly scanning Euclase Enclave with his mind. When contracted demons finished their mission, unidentified psychic impulse has gone through the entire district. It didn't affect it's living population. It was reserved for Mecants alone. As soon as that happened, all of these automatons abandoned their duties and moved to the massacre sites.

"Somehow, I know you are responsible for that." skeptically stated Geni, after she reunited with the crew at the inn. She looked disturbed and conflicted. "Not that I have proof. Wallrider isn't happy, thou."

While Mecants were cleaning off the mess, several squads of peacekeepers have arrived to Euclase Enclave. They began a very thorough investigation and were patrolling the area even tighter than before.

"Why thou?" innocently asked Nova, observing as several followers of Securis are trying to convince synths to stop working and allow them to examine extremists' bodies.

"Monsters and unrest is one thing, he can understand that." the look of dwarven girl basically said "You are not even pretending, arsehole". "But powerful demons surfacing and slaughtering bunch of people, no matter how guilty, is a completely different bacon. Demons are enemies of all sentient, soul-bearing races."

Nova listened without saying a word and then only smiled. And while Geni liked his riddles concerning technologies, she couldn't say the same concerning something as dangerous as race that once caused the biggest war in existence. And that damn confident light in psionic's eyes... She knew that he wasn't just enjoying walking on the edge, but constantly danced there to one's heart content. Indra and Mith already got used to it, but dwarven girl, on the other hand, was just worried.

"I appreciate that." shortly murmured Nova, focusing again. Few minutes later, psionic's eyes opened and serious expression formed on his face. "It came from here."

As soon as his finger pointed at the spot on the map of the district, Mith started rubbing her pointy chin. It was a small manor, marked by the bonfire symbol.

"Estate of House Plasm." slowly said elven summoner, turning her head to their leader. "Are you sure?"

"Definitely. Remember how badly I looked in places where we found Numemaro and Grabad? Same feeling here, just a different flavor." pain and anger where found in previous location, but now human lad felt... apathy. It was thick enough to make him lose his paranormal senses. Nex

Psionics versus Spellcasting: A Deep-Dive into the Lore Separation Between the Two, and the Rivalry Between Them

Hey there, everyone. I've made these two previous lore deep-dives for those that want to read them, about Dragons versus Giants and Vecna versus the Raven Queen earlier in this subreddit. In the last one, I promised that the next lore deep-dive would be about Psionics, Spellcasting, and the conflicts/rivalries between the two, and, well, here it is! Let's get started!

The Origin of Psionics in D&D History

To start out, I want to briefly cover the origins of psionics in the history of D&D, because it's fairly important to some of the themes that we'll be covering later on.

The first appearance of Psionics in D&D came in the Eldritch Wizardry book (which I discussed in my Vecna versus the Raven Queen deep-dive as being the first place that we saw Vecna. Suffice it to say, this book is really important to D&D historically), which also included psionic monsters such as the Mind Flayers, Intellect Devourers, and even Thought Eaters (those psionic astral platypuses that eat thoughts). It wasn't a huge part of D&D at the time, but it slowly grew more and more important, especially during AD&D 2e, when Dark Sun was released.

Dark Sun is quite different from most other settings, most notably due to the fact that regular spellcasting on Dark Sun tends to be destructive and harms the world around it, called "Defiling". There is a different type of "Preserving" magic, which does not harm the land. Due to the fact that magic destroyed the ecosystem of Athas (the world of Dark Sun), the more common type of supernatural powers on Athas are Psionics, most commonly used by Thri-Kreen, Athasian Gith, and other races with inherent bends towards psionic powers, but on Dark Sun, anyone can get a "Wild Talent" for gaining psionic powers (basically the equivalent of the Telepathic/Telekinetic feats from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything). Dark Sun became super popular, probably because it was so different from the core assumptions of the base game, and is now the most notable world in all of D&D where Psionics is a big deal.

It was somewhere around this time that Psionics got tied to Aberrations; creatures from the Far Realm that invade the Material Plane and other realms and have extreme mind powers. This likely was inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos, a

You know that trope where Harry thinks his magic is something else, and it mutates to match? All the muggleborns are like that. Hermione thinks she's a psionic, and can use telekinesis, pick up on surface thoughts/emotions, etc. Dean can bring his drawings to life. Harry is a nascent Jedi/Sith.

With the increased spread of science fiction and fantasy into television and movies throughout the mid to late twentieth century, muggleborns are frequently exposed to possible explanations for the weird events that occur around them. Some of them become convinced that they have super powers, others that they are psychic/psionic, and others even concluding it's magic but part of a different system. In all cases, they experiment with their powers and their magic mutates to match. By the time Harry goes to Hogwarts, the school is filled with nascent force-users, superheroes/villains, powerful psykers of all sorts, sorcerers, mages, warlocks, and other D&D style classes, etc.

The teachers are run ragged by the massive variations in power, so even though the school is still open and functional, the students are able to run amok with little supervision. This leads to many of the similarly powered children forming groups, teams, and cults, depending on what they see as the true power they wield. What's more is they've started teaching the halfbloods and purebloods so the mutations are spreading out of control. Harry saw Star Wars with Dudley and became convinced that he can use the force, so he's either a jedi or sith or trying to start his own order. Hermione, as a logical person, researched the weirdness happening around her and came to the conclusion that she is a powerful psyker who can move things with her mind and "read" the surface thoughts of others. Dean read lots of comic books and decided he must have superpowers, which ended up with all his drawings coming to life and jumping off the page. The Creevey family is big on D&D, so Colin and Dennis are mages/sorcerers/something-of-that-sorts.

Basically, rather than just Harry learning how to wield some unusual power due to media, it's a massive trend among all those who grew up not knowing the source of their powers.

When Tomaara finally left them in peace to return to her responsibilities as the host, other interested parties began their approach towards Avona and her escort. But now they were more careful and considerate. Apparently, it was a show of bad manners to surround someone in a group of more than two or three, unless, of course, those people were related or very close. So, one by one, they began their rounds.

"G-greetings, lady Avona." a cute, shy elf lad was the first of the bunch. His short hair had color of a ripe wheat and carried a small diadem with a big topaz in the center. His whole attire wasn't actually as screaming as others, mostly consisting of the high-quality robe with green trousers. Pair of bright golden eyes awkwardly looked at the human lass. "I am so glad to m-meet you."

"Pleasure is all mine, but I am not sure we are acquainted, dear sir." genuine smile again beamed with honesty, making lad's heart to go from racing to turbo driving.

"You're gonna give a stroke to the poor sod, Nova." slightly chided Narth mentally, leering at his leader. "This guy is one of those "more-or-less okay" members of Hundred Families."

"He learns thou." answered back psionic, feeling the lad's mind.

"Oh, yes! My apologies!" yeah, elven society was a grinding one. If you have no magic in you - have fun being at the bottom of the society. But if you have one, even if you are a member of Hundred Families - enjoy eternal struggle for influence and power, in which you may be killed, maimed, used, etc. Poor sod was just getting into the whole swamp of politics, already stressed as hell. "M-my name is Yorru Seasonlaw. Our bloodline is manipulation of n-nature."

"Local druids, huh? Only the blueblooded ones." Avona thought to herself, flirtatiously tilting head as she examined interlocutor further. Out loud psionic said the following: "Nice to meet you, sir Yorru. I don't have a bloodline, but my magic is based on words."

"Really?! Could you please show me?!" Avona felt as her mental brow was moving upwards. This kid had a definite crush on her and human lass wasn't even trying. By elven standards, he was still pretty young. As Mith later clarified, Yorru had only a single century behind one's belt. Unlike orcs, that matured very fast, pointy-eared snobs and stuntie alcoholics had to spend one hundred years to achieve a certain semblance of maturity.

"Why don't we show it to everyone?" quickly, but gracefully Avona went for the Tomaara and quietly asked her

Scouting mission quickly ended with a full on assault. Inhibited Nova couldn't notice their target thanks to negative psychic echo, so the monster in question had an advantage against them. But he slightly underestimated Mith.

Beast attacked them from the second level of an abandoned warehouse, crushing floor with his weight and force. Evading debris, Nova got a nasty scratch on his chest, which penetrated his breastplate and could have gutted human lad, if the strike wasn't slightly out of reach. Monster landed and pounced again, aiming to finish the wounded enemy.

"Get off him!!!" wide strike of claymore forced him to dodge it, but left open for an attack from another side.

CRUNCH!!!

Disgusting sound of broken bones echoed through the room and was followed by the low growl of pain. Pair of massive metal fists replaced Mith's hands, when she punched furry target, landing attack right into exposed ribcage. Force was enough to throw the beast into the wall. Impact made it crack, but enemy attacked again. Both he and the elven summoner grabbed each other by hands, trying to force the opponent to lose balance. At first, beast was winning, but then Mith simply summoned legs of a familiar with claws, shifting balance in her favor.

"GRRRRRH!!!" creature tried to lunge forward and bite off Mith's head, but was met with hardened steel of the Steel Golem's head, which replaced elven one. Big nose broke with even more awful sound and teeth flew in all directions. Shell-shocked and confused, monster was then pounded into submission by the polymorphing summoner.

"Remarkable self-control, Mith." when target was subdued, Nova approached Mith and approvingly patted her on the shoulder. Yes, her old self would beat the poor sod into the bloody pulp, so seeing her progress in controlling one's temper was very nice. "Great work."

Elf girl blushed and felt very proud. While taking congealing potion and the painkiller, Nova allowed Indra and Wizardia to remove obliterated armor and bandage his wound. Then he stood before the beast.

"Let's get him out of here. I need a place to question him without this awful echo around."

But when team grabbed the weakened enemy and was about to leave, Indra stopped. Her ears and nose twitched several times as she stood in one place, completely motionless.

"Footsteps. A lot. Did someone followed us?!" she unsheathed her claymore, ready for the fight.

"Fools..." grunted the beast, lifting bruised head.

"Have something to say?"

Brainstorming: Psionic Abilities for a Bard

Hey everyone - the bard player in my campaign is possibly going to make a deal with a psionic great old one like creature for power.

This campaign does not come with multiclassing and i have talked to the player, offering a few options on how to handle it. The gist is: I'm looking for ideas of boons/abilities that the character can gain for this kind of deal without a warlock multiclass. They will keep playing a bard with a decent focus in control.

Help me brainstorm a bit, please πŸ˜„

PS: Don't worry about party powerlevel or imbalances this is a high fantasy, epic campaign and the other player characters are already really strong.

Building a Psionic Cyber-punk Ninja?

With the upcoming Kamigawa Neon Dynasty MTG set coming out I've been kind of inspired. For those of you who don't know, it's a Japanese themed cyperpunk set (the first futuristic setting they're making). One of the cards already revealed is a futuristic ninja.

In MTG, ninjas are typically blue/black in terms of game mechanics, and blue/black cards also often use mind/thought manipulation/control abilities.

So what should I do to make a psionic Cyber-punk Ninja?

Well, when considering ninjas, rogues often come to mind. Assassin, soul knife (for the psionic) both fit well.

For cyber punk, artificers work well.

Shadow monk is also a classic ninja.

And of course anything can be flavored to be tech, but some things require less a stretch than others.

My goals for this build are to:

Be able to stealth and ambush well, use some minor psionic powers, and be able to keep up in combat and in utility, and to have the build come online as soon as possible. I should have good mobility and the ability to vanish and reappear.

It doesn't have to be fully meta-optimized build, but it needs to be effective enough to justify how bloody cool the aesthetic is.

Some ideas I'm bouncing around are: Soul knife rogue w/ armorer artificer.

Shadow monk w/ swarm keeper ranger (reflavor the swarm as nanomachines, son) or fey wanderer (to get some psychic damage albeit minor, and use Wis for Cha).

Whispers bard w/ aberrant mind spec w/ hexblade warlock dip.

My table allows all official content, so strixhaven, ravnica, Eberron, you name it, it's all good. We also allow Mercer-Brew but no one's touched anything other than blood hunter, and i don't anticipate that being what i go for either.

Let me know what y'all think to get something really cool.

(I apologize for a delay. Life is sometimes rough. This one is short, but next will be longer.)

Recent ambush has proven to Nova that enemy can pack quite a punch, if sufficiently angered. Precautions must be made for the future, since it might get even worse in the future. But fun was far from over, yet this time without them involved.

"RRRRRRRAAAAAAAA!!!!!!" an inhuman roar pierced the cold air, coming from a big street ahead. Nova quickly picked up several dozens of muffled screams, suppressed by it. Since patching up was finished, team quickly went there.

The scene they soon witnessed was a bloody one. A big, muscular monster, that resembled a big bipedal bear, was holding a single living assailant by the neck. I wore normal clothing, but very tattered and old. Creature was also injured, having several light and medium wounds under thick fur, but judging by the dozens of massacred bodies around, it was a fair price.

"TELL THE WITCH YOU SERVE THAT HER CURSED BODY WILL BE IN SO MANY PIECES - UNDERTAKERS WILL BECOME RICHER THAN KINGS!!!" with those words, monster brutally disfigured the face of elven woman that he hold hostage, using sharp claws of the free hand. She wailed in pain, pleading for mercy, until he roughly threw her unto the pavement, letting to go away.

"That was something." calmly stated Nova, continuing to observe the beast from a safe position. He allowed girls to see him too, while not blowing their cover. He saw as the last survivor barely collected herself, before stumbling away. Creature winced several times in pain, apparently catching up with the received damage, and quickly fleeing away. "Mith, could you track him?"

"Sure." elven summoner changed her nose, forming it into a canine noggin. It looked very comical on her pretty face, but others knew better than to laugh at her. "Let's just not attract attention."

While they evaded most of the locals (there wasn't many anyway), Nova recollected everything Geni said about this place. First of all, Mirkwater docks weren't as busy as before thanks to the unrest and extremism, that has touched entire city. Second, local order wasn't uphold by the followers of Securis. This district was guarded by an organized militia, trained and maintained by the most influential person here - lady Ullaner Mintraw.

"I know her." pointed out Mith, when their team had a briefing. "Member of Hundred Families, the second daughter of the ruler of Familia Mintraw, masters of Enchantment. A dangerous bit

All my Synth leaders have become Psionic

This game is a very curious pastime, indeed. I kind of bumped into a most interesting phenomenon - a loophole or a bug, perhaps.

I think I need to give a general context, first. I created a handful of human nations to make the gameplay more familiar, within the dynamics of different civilizations. The premise I apply is that after WWIII - which the game makes reference to - part of the vanquished choose to simply abandon Earth, and to settle elsewhere.

So I always play with a human empire, and there are always 3 - 5 human empires on the map. This time it was with a communist utopia - the Socialist World Republic (yes, partly inspired by that Spartacist march, partly by the original aspirations of the Comintern).

Now, being a Marxist, an atheist, and having absolute equality as the ultimate achievement of mankind, I decided to go Synth for the first time. I created the "Equal Citizens". Yes, they all became robots after a few months. Of course, I didn't like the initial look of Equal Citizens very much (you can create a positronic matrix, but don't have the technology to make them look human? Why?), so I edited it in the save file, and then created a new template for Equal Citizens to appear human.

It was the dawn of the New Man.

We lacked a Lenin, a Rosa Luxemburg, a Trotsky, and frankly, we lacked the commitment, fervor and resources to bring about a Revolution throughout the Universe.

As the game doesn't make much distinction between capitalist pigs and popular democracy, we ended up allying myself with two less-than-exemplary and unequal states - that at least like elections (not as much as us and our perfect democracy). And we subjugated a handful of tyrannies who have improved their dealings with the working class ever since.

One of these tyrannies is a Muslim state, which apparently decided that it was not enough to believe in a backward religion and base its entire society on archaic superstitions, hierarchies, traditions and other abject things, and took it a step further. I don't know what exactly they did. But all of mankind, overnight, became telepathic and now see invisible things.

And the New Man? Equal Citizens, freed from this cheap superstition, which only serves to alienate and enslave the proletariat? Freed from the lower impulses of the organic body, like egoism and fear? Well, in general, they remained perfectly normal. Except... the Politburo.

All Equal Citizens in the Politburo, regardless their original species (and al

(Special thanks to beyondoutsidethebox, who edited this chapter and made it better)

A narrow escape from being overwhelmed by death squads leads the team to the sewers. Again. On the more positive side, the local stench wasn't as horrid as in the Sundered Ore District, and the effect of negative psychic echo was finally gone. Nova ordered them to remove one of the walls and create a hollow room wide enough to house them and their prisoner inside of it. The newly created room was hidden by an illusory projection of the completely untouched wall, giving the team some time to recuperate and collect needed intel.

Enchanted spies, in a wide variety of forms ranging from clocks, toys, instruments, and more came snooping around several times. Nova slightly calibrated his psychic vision and was astonished to see that even the sewers were flush with the Enchantress' spies! Ullaner had great mastery of constructs in her bloodline, and monitored the entire district like an Orwellian control freak with thousands of surveillance cameras. While the enchanted spies couldn't see through their illusion, Nova didn't want this fact to make the team careless. Every measure has a countermeasure - humans knew this natural law more than anyone else.

With Wizardia healing their prisoner, Indra and Mith guarding the room, and Geni calibrating her guns, Nova delved into the beast's mind. There the two finally met on more peaceful terms.

"She will pay for what she did to me!!!" well, relative to their previous meetings. The mind of Grabad Stormeye, as the beast called himself, resembled a massive fortress that was burning. Rock melted, fell apart, and then reassembled itself making this place into an endless hell. Every room, nook and cranny was filled with every awful and brutal way the beast would destroy the one who made him like this. Nova sat in this furnace of a place and uttered, β€œThis is fine,” before hearing Grabad Stormeye’s tale.

Grabad belonged to the orcish community in Stormeye, deep inside of Free Reach's territory. As a young child, while under the supervision of the more adult small bros, he was walking around one of the sheds one day and heard knocking on one of the backdoors. Upon opening the view window, Grabad saw a haggard-looking old woman of an unknown origin. The woman asked to be let in and provided hospitable shelter. Even as a child, the little orc was cautious and asked for the woman’s identity. When the stranger stated that this is "unimportant", G

Do you change your Aberrant Mind's Psionic Spells?

So I know in the text of Psionic Spells it says that as you level up, you can change the spells on your psionic spells list, so it allows you to also cast those spells subtly with your sorcery points. But my question today is:

Does anyone switch the psionic spells list? Why or Why not? Are the spells it gives you good to start? What are better spells to take?

To me, the aberrant mind subclass gives off big eldritch horror vibes because of these psionic spells, and that was not my favorite so I decided to change them. I went with a build around elegance and manipulation, here's the video about the build if you want to watch it: https://youtu.be/SmTLrNGMyfs I call her "The Enchantress" I think its my favorite character to play so far.
