The package of chia seeds I have at home states that the “maximum daily intake of chia seeds should not exceed 15g per day”. Is there a reason for that? Would it be harmful to eat more than 15g/day?
I don't always have time to put them to soak overnight, and I like the crunch on my salads and oatmeal. So is it safe to sprinkle some chia seeds on food without soaking them first?
Hello, I recently just learned about chia seeds, and flax seed benefits and wanted to incorporate them in my food. I bought a mix package of flax and chia seeds together in one bag. I heard that eating raw dry seeds are not good but I want to know if it is okay to put raw dry chia and flax seeds in my smoothies which get blended up usually in water and or milk. Is the blending process and liquid in the smoothie enough soaking? Thanks
Hi. I'm a bit confused over the absorption of whole chia seeds' nutrients. Some sources say letting them soak and sprout for some minutes/hours should be enough to get their nutrients, but others say that they should be ground like flax seed, otherwise you only get the soluble fiber from the seeds.
I know there have been some tests that say that their absorption has been improved by grinding them, but can we get at least part from their properties by eating/drinking them whole when soaked?
I’ve had good luck with seeds like cumin, black pepper and mustard. Thinking of branching out to chia and hemp hearts. Anyone have any BTDT for me!
I bought a package of Badia - Flax, Chia, and Hemp seeds.
My question is, are there any issues with eating these seeds as is? I read that eating flax seeds raw can be bad for you, but some sources say they are and some say they arnt.
Some say to grind them before eating them.
I've been just taking a spoonful or two and adding it to vegetable soup.
I'm mostly wanting to know if it's an issue eating these seeds as is, or if I should be cooking them into the soup instead of adding them after. If I add them after cooking should I grind them or does it matter?
It doesn't say on the package if the seeds are raw or not so I don't know how to tell if they are. I'll try and add a link here.

I am using Great Value chia seeds and noticed the carbs are listed as 10g and the fiber is 10g (so no net carbs), which I thought was wrong. I have been using Chronometer and had initially thought it was an error so I had switched to another entry that gave 4g net carb per 50g of chia seeds. Now I actually double checked on the packaging and saw that, indeed, on the package there is no net carb (10g carb and 10g fiber).
Do I trust the actual packaging or other sources that suggest anywhere from 3g-5g of net carbs per 50g? Does it really matter?
I am trying out chia seeds for the first time. Looking to see how to use it as a powdered form. Is it ok to add chia seed powder (2tsp or so) to coffee powder and add water/cream?

I've just started reading Born to run by Christopher McDougal and he talks about the Tarahumara people and the amazing energy they get from Chia seeds. I've done some research on line but would like to hear first hand experiences of the benefits (or not) of Chia seeds.
