A list of puns related to "Carry On (franchise)"
I am a PSP owner and a big-time modder/enjoyer of it, discovered "The 3rd birthday" a few days ago(well, essentially I couldn't bring myself to play it for some kind of reason. Aya on the front cover with the red bg behind her was really mysterious that it kinda held me away from trying the game tbh. But after some time, Aya and the music that plays in the menu drew me to playing it. Love the OST btw.) I liked the gameplay style and the overdive system was a fresh breath of air for me. it has been a while since I've stumbled upon such a mechanic in a video game. I did read that it was essentially a spinoff from some series(didn't mind too much attention to it) so that's why I decided to give it a try. I like the visuals, I like the graphics, I liked the character design(judging from the cover) but even for a first-timer PE player in the franchise, you can feel how the writing is bad. Not to mention, how brave Aya really is and the way she acts generally and the personality that is shown throughout is not proportional to her actions and capabilities at all. I watched a retrospective video that was made by a big-time PE fan, I assume and they straight out hated it.
I had taken in the points they made and they totally made sense to me. I feel like I'm doing an injustice to the franchise by starting from 3rd birthday but why does it feel appealing for me? Even though I truly saw what flaws the game had and how it is a terrible sequel, it still draws me in to play. I'd say it's maybe the gameplay style which I had taken a liking in but after I heard how off this is from the actual franchise by like, all means, I feel bad. Sometimes oblivion is truly bliss. I am a big underdog lover generally in anything and this is where this game goes, if not the whole franchise. Also, there is a thing to mention that I like the game so much that I feel bad it did such injustice to the previous games and to story, to Aya that I really want to give it a chance to make amends by itself but we all know it can't..
So what do I do? Do I still play the 3rd birthday or do I go back to PE1 and 2?
This three-part history of the Carry On film franchise is quite interesting. There are voice overs and interviews from the few living actors and writers and others involved in the making of the films. Some go back and revisit the filming locations. There are a few "Carry On Historians" as well and I could have lived without them. Martin Clunes narrates and he's OK.
The first part details the coming together of director Gerald Thomas and producer Peter Rogers and the early films as they became popular. It details how quickly they were shot (and always on budget) and almost never on location (Pinewood studios filled in, usually) and so they were profitable. It also covers the handover from writer Norman Hudis to new writer Talbot Rothwell.
Part II starts in the mid-sixties and how the country had changed. Except for the Carry On world, of course. Barbara Windsor joins the franchise. I didn't realise so many of these films were based on famous films of the time. Carry On Cleo was based on the Burton/Taylor film Cleopatra, for instance. This episode ends with Babs' famous scene in Carry on Camping.
The third part starts in 1970 with Carry On Up The Jungle as the series went bawdier than before. It covers the death of some of the regulars and how the country had changed. It covers England and Emmanuelle and how they flopped.
I've seen the first six films now, plus Carry On Spying (no. 9). These early films are not exactly rivetting, but on the plus side they are not as stupid and bawdy as some of the later films are said to be.
I like Carry On Spying a lot. It is a nice silly spoof of the Bond films and things like The Third Man, etc.
I also think that Carry On Constable could make an interesting partner for a double feature night with the first Police Academy film.

Notable Box Office Stories:
Carry on films are a cultural touchstone in the UK, and there are even talks about reviving the franchise today. It was the second longest running movie franchise of all time before it ended and that's only if you count the myriad of Godzilla movies as part of the same franchise. It then also has over 30 movies in its catalogue which even today stands as one of the most numerous movies franchises of all time.
How is it that such a beloved franchise can just suddenly stop? Was it a gradual decline in box office? Or critical performance?
Moreover, did the films ever get much attention overseas? You would think with the British cultural invasion during the 60s that such a huge franchise would be able to make its way over, but it seems like these films are enjoyed almost exclusively by Brits.
I think this offseason for the Jets is one of the biggest since I've been a fan. I've liked Mac and Bowles but with the condition that we go into next year with a QB I can be excited about. We have a ton of cap space, I think Cousins is the best move for us. If we had a chance to draft Rosen or maybe even Darnold I would probably prefer that but Mayfield and Jackson just feel like too big of gambles to me. I've seen this mid first round QB bust movie too many times and Jackson and Mayfield give me that vibe.
Cousins isn't perfect but with him it allows us to invest in the draft in other areas with a known quantity at QB who would be throwing to Anderson, Enunwa and Kearse. Cousins right now has old ass Vernon Davis as one of his biggest threats, his number one receiver has 200 yards less than Robby Anderson! Yet he is still statistically lighting it up!
Basically, I'm on board, Browns most likely will grab Rosen, if we can trade up for Darnold sure I can get behind that, I'm sure I can talk myself into Jackson or Mayfield, but Cousins seems like the way to go. He's a known quantity who we can easily sign then use the draft and rest of free agency to get a few more pieces around him, instead of rolling the dice on a QB prospect we hope develops with our nice set of weapons or potentially failing and leading to starting over with a new coach and GM.
"From what I saw, Max is just happy to crash with Lewis and that is what every single flash-point was [this year], bar the brake testing which is something different entirely. But every incident where they are racing wheel-to-wheel, it is Max saying 'hey, if we crash, we crash' and Lewis saying 'I really do not want to crash, because it is going to be really bad for the championship'. And this goes back to day two in Imola and day four in Barcelona."
"It has been the case a lot this year, but now we are getting to the end of the season and Max has had the slower car for the last few, maybe it was the quicker car this weekend in the race it was hard to tell because of the tire differences, but he certainly had a better car in qualifying - anyway."
"Every one of these incidents, he is putting his car in a position that is saying 'either I am going to exit this corner ahead, or neither of us are going to exit the corner', which is an impossible way to go racing with someone. And of course if they crash, then Max has one hand on the trophy, he has 8 points [on Lewis] and does not even need to beat Lewis in Abu Dhabi - and if neither of them score points in Abu Dhabi, then Max is the champion so he will race like this again."
"And it is a really tricky thing trying to figure out how to work with this from here as a sport to try and just have a fair fight. Because it does not feel it is quite that at the moment, and where we are at now, for the second race of three where, basically, rather than being overtaken on track the stewards are having to just give a five-second penalty, in Brazil they did not but they should have. Max is not going to be overtaken on the track, he is going to cover the inside, not let anyone round the outside and if he goes off-track then 'to hell with it' but 'give me a penalty if you want, but I am not backing down'."

As someone who really got into 40k 2-3 years ago at around age 20, I was wondering what really drew me into the whole franchise. And what made me a huge fan of the Imperium of Man and how it operates. I found it weird that I oddly liked a faction that was by all means, horrifying, tyrannical and oppressive. Why did I enjoy and become so invested in such a faction that would usually be seen as a villain? And then I compared it to several other franchises that I have seen and played such as Halo, Mass Effect, the Resistance games, Independence Day, Transformers, Marvel/DC shows that involved aliens invasions and more and then it sorta clicked with me.
We were not the victims this time. We were the opposite, we were the aggressors now. The invaders. The oppressors. The exterminators. The villains(even though we are the protagonists in 40k I guess). And we are extremely more unreasonable and crazy compared to the other sci-fi human counterparts.
In franchises like Halo, Mass Effect and Independence Day we are usually seen as being invaded, outclassed, outgunned and being destroyed by aliens who have too many advantages against us. We are always being laid low in so many franchises and usually have to take the path of the underdog to beat the aliens in some unconventional manner. Furthermore, we would usually be seen as the calculating, science digging and inquisitive type that tries to reason and figure out why the aliens are attacking us through reasons and facts.
The Imperium of Man is the opposite. We've destroyed and exterminated both hostile and innocent aliens. We control the entire galaxy, we have the superior firepower and tech. And most of all, we are fucking unreasonable. We all became religious zealots who focus on faith as enough reason to burn worlds asunder all in the name of a dead God. Other sci-fi humans would try to find a way to make peace with aliens, come up with a reason for why they are attacking us, trying to redeem them or try to go for the "we can co-exist with the aliens they are just misunderstood". The Imperium of Man says "No, the time for understanding has long passed. The Emperor has deemed your existence unworthy and we shall carry out his will to remove such unworthiness".
And I love it, its a nice different take on how humanity would act in space. Instead of being the usual level headed, good guy peacemakers who either get invaded by every other aliens or just trying to make friends, we do the oppsite. And thats sort of r
... keep reading on reddit β‘Title is pretty self explanatory. But backstory... I wanted to fit everything into a carry on for a quick trip. I thought I was being a real smart guy by taking the time to vacuum seal all my clothing. "Why doesn't everybody do this?" I thought to myself. It took me hours to properly fold everything and seal it all and I spent like $20 on the bags. It never occurred to me that the airport agents would make me cut them all open. I thought they had xray scanners for that stuff. They made me cut open every single bag and then my clothing was 3 times the size of my carry on by the time they were done. I said to them "I guess you guys get this all the time" and one guy said "No not really". Everyone was looking at me like I was an idiot. I had to buy a bigger piece of luggage for a lot of money and then check my bag at the gate. So yeah, LPT, don't vacuum seal your clothing for carry on bags.
TL;DR: Vacuum sealed my clothes in a carry on and had to cut them all open at the airport and felt like an idiot
UPDATE: Wow! Thanks for all the likes and comments. The two most popular comments seem to be why didn't I use a ziplock bags. Well, I had no idea they existed first off, but even if I had, I wouldn't have had a way to re-vacuum the bags. I actually used a foodsaver to seal these not a vacuum cleaner. I thought, again, I was being really smart by using my kitchen foodsaver to seal everything. This is what cost me so much money because foodsaver bags are not cheap and I used two entire rolls. The other question people are asking is how I intended to get the stuff home. The short answer (which I posted in more depth below) is that I intended to buy a suitcase at my destination from a designer store that was not available in my city, and then I planned to check my bag on the way back. I realize how dumb this all is now, especially using foodsaver bags. Looking back on it I think the TSA agents thought I was a total idiot. Like I said, everyone was looking at me. I also had to carry half my clothing through the airport until I found luggage to buy (which I paid 2x the price for versus amazon). Lesson learned.
And don't say your partner.
