A land battle between Byzantine Empire under Justinian vs. the Tang Dynasty

For the sake of comparing military strength, if these two were to somehow fight each other, who would win?

Considering troop #'s, strategies, commanders, wealth, armory, allies, and unit types at both empires heights, who would win a large scale land battle, if you were to suppose they were somehow geographically adjacent to each other. I am guessing Emperor Taizong or under Emperor Xuanzong before the An Lushan Rebellion, would be the height for the Chinese. Justinian I is always said to be the height of the Byzantine empire. Also what is fun about this question is that the dates are not too far off from each other, Justinian being about 150 years before Tang. I myself would guess that the Byzantines would win, I think they had a more well developed military and fought many different peoples. The Chinese have an advantage numberss wise however.

WI: A surviving Byzantine Empire under the Macedonian Dynasty, rescues the Iberian Jews

Suppose the Byzantine Empire under the Macedonian Dynasty, survives and retains the territory at Basil 2's lifetime (plus Israel and Amida), into the Fifteenth Century and when the Jews and Moors were expelled from Iberia, the Emperor in Constantinople immediately sends a large fleet from Athens and Thessaloniki to rescue the Jews and bring them into Empire, to be settled in Israel and the rest of the empire. The Moors settle in North Africa, itself.

What are the effects on Judaism and the Byzantines?

After fell of Latin Empire, Byzantine Empire did a big reform under Palailogos dynasty. Could it be able to survive ?

Situation : After Empire of Nicaea conquer Constantinople, Mikhael VIII Palailogos fixed his mistaken on his ruling period. He reformed the Byzantine Army, using purges & bring the Army completely under Emperor command to prevail coup.

Not only that, he also reform economy of the Empire; improved his image to Italian & Slav Balkans, especially on trade. The effect was more money to national treasure to pay his army & develope infastructure. So there will be less coups, less civil wars, the border got better secure & the Empire will be less struggle on financial problems, lead to much better chance to survive

Question is, could it be able to survive until today when the Ottomans rose up, then after with Western Europe countries become more stronger & more ambitious after all those reforms ?

Did the Palaiologoi dynasty see the fall of the Byzantine empire coming?

Iโ€™m interested in whether the last emperors of Byzantium realized that the Empire was soon about to fall, or that they believed in some sort of comeback. Are there any sources that could answer this? Also, what were their motives to continue fighting for their empire? Byzantium wasnโ€™t anything near their old state and it had lost all his economical and military power; was it purely religion that kept them going or did they truly care about the people?

The Ottomans were just another dynasty ruling the Byzantine Empire

This is a pretty large argument, and I'm probably accidentally going to start a flame war, but I will summarize my points:

- The way the Ottomans came into becoming an empire was pretty similar in many ways to Roman and Byzantine civil wars, there were many claimants to the Roman throne and the Osmans' rise to power isn't that different from other Roman Emperors.

- Their bases of power (aka core territories) were almost exactly the same, that being the Balkans and Anatolia, they also expanded into similar territories

- The Osman dynasty were recognized by OG Romans, the Greek-speaking local populace calling themselves Romans, as the legitimate Caesar and ruler of the Roman Empire in 1453, these Romans (called Rum, mostly left in Anatolia by the early 20th century, as most Balkan Greek-speakers embraced their Hellenic identity as opposed to their Rumi/Roman identity) were still loyal to the House of Osman up around the late-19th to the 20th Century (I can talk about all the massacres, ethnic cleansing, and evil acts on all sides, but until after the end of WW1, Greeks and Turks weren't "sworn enemies"), meaning that the empire was still the "Empire of the Romans" (legally it was named "The Exalted State of Rome"). The Empire was, until later, dominated by Greek-speaking Romans population-wise.

- One of the counterarguments I got from people was "Rome can't be Muslim", and the only thing I can say to that is Rome was never inherently Christian, and in fact, it was Pagan for a pretty long time, so religion is very much irrelevant in this argument.

- "Wouldn't that imply Turkey is a successor to Rome?" No. Just no. The Republic of Turkey is not only legally but even ideally speaking not a successor state to the Ottoman Empire, right-wing rhetoric being mainstream somewhat would imply that due to the rise of Islamism and the population of the core Ottoman territory being dominated by Turks during the late years of the Ottoman Empire would mean that they're directly related to the modern republic, however upon closer inspection this falls apart. The most basic argument being Osmans themselves were hardly Turkish (this also doesn't even matter for them being Emperors of Rome, that wasn't derived from ethnicity), usually having mothers of Slavic, Caucasian, or Greek origin, on top of the fact that they spoke multiple languages and they never claimed to be particularly Turkic until when they had no power and no choice, in fact, I'd say Timur, who the Ott

After 50 years of constant warfare, rebellion, holy war, conquests, invasions, and whatnot; Emperor Skuli, son of Emperor Sumarlidi, son of Emperor Dyre of Oskyldr dynasty usurped Byzantine Empire peacefully, fulfilling his grandfather's dying wish, and restored the Roman Empire. So glorious

https://preview.redd.it/vuv9wtq92ks41.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=fba50e7977b77f13d1b4dc02bf087b96bdf91f27

Long story short :

  1. Used prepared invasion against Hungarian/Serbian/Wallachian king, took all his title, forming the Empire of Carpathia.
  2. Declared a couple county conquests against papal states, Italy, and Lothargia to get duchy of Latium, Ferrara, and Genoa.
  3. Converted en masse to Orthodox while raiding western Europe non stop.
  4. Declared a couple holy wars and conquered duchy of Tunis, Alexandria, Antioch, and Damietta.
  5. Defeated first jihad for kingdom of Egypt. Mercenaries FTW, had something like 8k gold and 55k troops.
  6. Declared multiple holy wars and conquered duchy of Aswan, Jerusalem, and Antioch.
  7. Restored Alexander's bloodline, and invaded Byzantine Empire (I did not take all Byzantine titles because restoring Byzantine Empire requires me changing to greek culture).
  8. Emperor Dyre died a natural death at the ripe old age of 75. He borne at least 10 children, is often accompanied by his faithful dog. He is succeeded by his genius legitimized bastard son Sumarlidi.
  9. Invaded the Blobbasid dynasty. After conquering half of Blobbasid, I decided that they were no longer a threat and I would rather stabilize my realm. Raided North African kingdoms nonstop.
  10. Emperor Sumarlidi died to severe stress at the age of 60, he has 4 lovers. He is survived by 10 children and 1 bastard (yeah apparently before Dyre died, heir converted back to German pagan, more concubines lol). He is succeeded by his genius son Skuli.
  11. Got military organization to 4. Stomped several khagans on the east, and even more pagans up north. Defeated the second jihad for kingdom of Jerusalem.
  12. Suddenly a pop up shows "can usurp title : Byzantine Empire".

Turns out it takes give or take, 50 years for Byzantine Empire (whatever remains of it) to exit the state of constant warfare. Yeah it's ridiculous, being a basilius is tough.

Popular history of the Byzantine Empire has the empire fracturing after the 4th Crusade and then being reformed by the Palaiologos Dynasty in 1261. How exactly was it reformed? What gave the Empire of Nicaea the authority to declare a new empire? How was this revival viewed by contemporary nations?

Popular history surrounding the Byzantine Empire usually places great emphasis on the 4th Crusade and how it "doomed the Empire", but there is often little mentioned regarding the fact that the Empire was reformed and lasted nearly another 200 years after that. Many of the great sieges of Constantinople are considered to be these epic and important battles in world history, but the recapture of Constantinople that allowed for the reformation of the Roman Empire doesn't even have it's own Wikipedia page. You get the picture. How exactly did the Empire of Nicaea declare themselves the new Roman Empire? Was it merely the act of taking Constantinople?

In under a 100 Years i took down Catholic and put the Byzantine Empire in shambles.

By playing as Prince Ibrahim of the Aghlabid Sultanate, within the first year i axed my brother for the throne as Sultan. Hereafter i set my goal on getting the kingdom of Sardina, from here out i moved my capital to Cagliari and builded the goldmine to get enough money to my next goal. I also changed my culture to Sadine to get Onsager's. I started gathering secrets from the Byzantine Empire. My goal was getting Kingdom of Thessalonica and having my capital at Constantinople. After having enough agents to make sure i could get the highest possible chance on abducting the leader of the Byzantine Empire by bribes with the gold from the goalmine i waged war for kingdom and got an instant win from the abduct scheme. To make sure i got full benefit i swap my religion from Ash'ari to Maturidism. This was to utilize that Constantinople have a holy building that they get benefit from and letting the gold come in. Here after i swapped my focus to finding secrets in Italy to do the same but this time as a holy war since i already used the invade on Thessalonica. From here i could watch as Italy went up in flames and i could pick them off one by one when they got independence. My biggest concern was getting the Vatican. Luckily for me they had waged crusade on the Norse for the Kingdom of England and while they where busy i took the Vatican as they just won the Kingdom of England and insted of gather from capital, their soldiers had to sail all the way down. Hereafter i just played the waiting game in getting small chunks of land from the Byzantine Empire and I got into my goal. Only went though 2 deaths of my character. With my kingdoms I was lucky with not getting split up, since Ibrahim died of Cancer and only managed to get 2 kids, where one was a girl. And by playing right from on there I managed to form an Empire before my second char bit the dust. I love playing the game by setting some goal by the Major Decisions. Now i just need to find a new goal :).

Finally!

Pic to show Maturidism has Holy site in Constantinople.
