A land battle between Byzantine Empire under Justinian vs. the Tang Dynasty
For the sake of comparing military strength, if these two were to somehow fight each other, who would win?
Considering troop #'s, strategies, commanders, wealth, armory, allies, and unit types at both empires heights, who would win a large scale land battle, if you were to suppose they were somehow geographically adjacent to each other. I am guessing Emperor Taizong or under Emperor Xuanzong before the An Lushan Rebellion, would be the height for the Chinese. Justinian I is always said to be the height of the Byzantine empire. Also what is fun about this question is that the dates are not too far off from each other, Justinian being about 150 years before Tang. I myself would guess that the Byzantines would win, I think they had a more well developed military and fought many different peoples. The Chinese have an advantage numberss wise however.

What if the byzantine empire under justinian annexed the ostrogothic kingdom that ruled rome via royalty marrying royalty?
Justinian was friends with the visigothic queen. Maybe if jistinian didnt marry theodore he could have married her. Maybe if he had a son or nephew be could have married her. Then his imperium restorii could have been less costly and could butterfly into an earlier victory in the later war with the sassanids and hence do better in the upcoming wars with the arabs or whatever. But what do u guys think?

Is it feasible for the Byzantine Empire under Justinian to have created the Suez Canal early? And assuming they hypothetically could have constructed it, how would the Empire's history diverge?
I feel like the obvious answer is that the Byzantines would become even more of a trade power house, but would this development be enough to save the Empire from its ultimate fate? Or would it end up being lost to the Empire's enemies and accelerate the end?

[WTS] Ancient silver and bronze coins from the Roman and Byzantine empires! Justinian, Gallienus, Caracalla, Constantine, and more. Priced at $25 and up!
I have a nice group of ancients for sale today. They all come from reputable auction houses like CNG and Nomos. Iβll separate them by denomination:
Denarius
-
Caracalla βLimesβ Denarius: This is an interesting and unusual piece. It is a denarius struck in bronze instead of silver. No one is sure why these were made, but one theory is that these were paid to soldiers on the Roman frontiers with the promise that they could later be exchanged for silver coins. This one has nice patina and great detail on both sides. VF. Circa 210 AD; 2.35g; 19.5mm diameter. PICS $50
-
Elagabalus Denarius: An attractive silver denarius of the infamous emperor. With LAETITIA PUBL reverse type. VF. Rome mint. Circa 218-222 AD; 2.55g; 18mm diameter. PICS $55 SOLD
Antoninianus
-
Trajan Decius: A lovely silver antoninianus with an excellent portrait of Decius. The ADVENTVS AVG reverse celebrates the emperorβs first arrival in Rome and is struck with worn dies, which is typical. EF. Rome mint. 250 AD; 4.25g, 22.2mm diameter. PICS $55 SOLD
-
Gallienus silver: A nice antoninianus from the early part of Gallienusβ reign, before the denomination was debased completely. Rome mint. Good VF. Rome mint. Circa 256 AD; 2.42g; 21mm diameter. PICS $40
-
βGallienusβ Zooβ: A later debased antoninianus, from when the emperor issued his famous βZooβ series featuring a variety of real and mythical creatures. This one features a goat on the reverse. EF. Rome mint. Circa 265 AD; 2.5g; 21.5mm diameter. PICS $60
-
Probus: A very attractive and heavy piece with a distinctive βeasternβ style. VF. Antioch mint. Circa 176-182 AD; 4.5g; 21mm diameter. PICS $50
-
Diocletian: A beautiful antoninianus from before Diolectianβs monetary reforms. Features a great portrait and lovely brown patina. Lugdunum mint. Graded βnear EFβ by CNG. Circa 295 AD; 3.92g; 22.5mm diameter. PICS $95 SOLD
Follis (Roman)
-
Maximian: A hefty early follis from one of the tetrarchs. Some corrosion, but a nice green patina. Reverse features Moneta, personification of money, to celebrate the currency reform. Near VF. Rome mint. Circa 302 AD; 9.2g; 26.8mm diameter. PICS $35

WI: A surviving Byzantine Empire under the Macedonian Dynasty, rescues the Iberian Jews
Suppose the Byzantine Empire under the Macedonian Dynasty, survives and retains the territory at Basil 2's lifetime (plus Israel and Amida), into the Fifteenth Century and when the Jews and Moors were expelled from Iberia, the Emperor in Constantinople immediately sends a large fleet from Athens and Thessaloniki to rescue the Jews and bring them into Empire, to be settled in Israel and the rest of the empire. The Moors settle in North Africa, itself.
What are the effects on Judaism and the Byzantines?

Was there ever a later Byzantine Emperor after Justinian that had dreams of reuniting the old Roman Empire?
When discussing Justinian it is often showed he wanted to reclaim the lands of the former western Roman empire. However, once he died the Eastern Roman Empire essentially would be on the defensive for most of the remaining 900 hundred years until 1453. Was there any other emperor that desired to reclaim Romes glory?
