A list of puns related to "Papacy"
In my recent playthrough I dismantled the papacy, expecting at least a bit of change in the religious aspect but nothing changed. In fact, Catholicismβs fervor is now at 95% which is higher than normal since the Pope doesnβt keep starting crusades and loosing.
What I want to know is, how come Catholicismβs fervor doesnβt go down to zero or like 20%? Without the pipe Catholicism doesnβt really work so I donβt understand why the religion many even exist.
I think when you dismantle the papacy there should at least be some changes to religion and after like 100 years or so most Catholics should embrace other denominations of Christianity or some other religion. I think this way it would be more historically accurate and way more fun.
Edit: so ok I understand the Catholicism could still exist thanks for the clarification but shouldnβt it have a fervor at like 20% or a fervor thatβs always decreasing since their main city has been captured and their main religious authority killed?
Is there any mods for you to play as the Pope that has the College of Cardinals so you may choose your heir i.e. your child or member of your dynasty? For CK3?
I don't see it as a monarchy, since God is our only king
So I just saw the relgion map of the CAS on r/imaginarymaps (that's also how I discovered this interesting project!) and it made me wonder: How does the Papacy look like in this timeline? I could imagine that the Lateran Treaty is the same as in OTL, but I couldn't find a real answer in the subreddit, hence the question
Plus seeing that a majority of the CAS actually is Roman Catholic how much "power" would the church or individual Bishops have? I guess the CAS is a secular state, but I am still curious if there are/were some background shenanigans going on.
What are some pre-1054 or even Biblical proofs against the papacy? Iβm not Catholic or Orthodox so I donβt really have a dog in the race. Any explanation would be appreciated!
I think it would be super intersting to have a Renaissance era/ 1500s counter reformation era corrupt pope civ. Would specialize in generating gold, religious preussure and faith buffs, culture and gold from holy sites, great artist points from holy sites?, extra healthy diplomatic relations with civs following your religion(diplo victory?) and maybe a special emergency/fair like what sweden has in industrial era, but for pope starts in medieval/ Renaissance, that relates to religion and/or diplo points for pope civ. Leaders could be like Leo X, Julius II? Maybe also a war pope alternate civ like crusader pope, who can also do special emergency called crusade with buffs against civs following other religions and more religious war buff? Cool idea I feel lmk what you guys think.
I am a Catholic btw but I'd be interested to hear an Anglican perspective.
as an orthodox i fixed the cisma and everyone, literally everyone, is orthodox now, there isnt a single catholic ruler left on earth, and i control rome
the papacy has 0 land and every time it launches a shitt crusade it only has the 2000 troops for being a pope
is there a way to end the papacy for good?
I have been reading Yves Renouardβs Avignon Papacy, and I was a bit confused about this. Quite possibly I am not understanding at all the motivations of the French kings. The impression that I got was that one moment, the French monarchy was encouraging the schism, and then a few decades later, they were desperate to end it. I am particularly curious about if this change had more to do with the fact that Charles V was succeeded by Charles VI shortly after the schism began, or with a changing political situation for France.
Pontifical slopes? Also how many Swiss Guards would you need to retake Bologna? Asking for a friar

From what I have read, Bernard of Clairvaux was undeniably the leading churchman of his day. He founded one of its leading monastic orders. He was secretary of the council of Troyes. He was a leading voice in determining the outcome of the Innocent/Anacletus schism. He knew Popes and Emperors. He was the leading recruiter for the Second Crusade. He was canonised just 20 years after his death.
At the same time, the Catholic Church elected a series of pretty forgettable popes. Why was Bernard never considered a candidate?
I created the kingdom of Sicily in the 867 start date and the Papacy somehow got all of Northern Italy. There is no way I can beat them in a war even with the Byzantines on my side. Is there a way to make them collapse without fighting them in a war.
I've been reading up on the church fathers recently and gotten to the topic of the papacy recently. Now I still am not a papalist, but some of the passages Ive read so far seem pretty damn clear about it. Anyone got any good books that argue against it, especially ones that argue using the church fathers' writings/disprove the Roman Catholic interpretation of them?
I've been considering coming back to Catholicism for some time now, but one hangup I've found myself struggling with is that, after studying the history of the Papacy, it seems to me that there was a development in the office's scope, powers, etc. and it was not the esteemed office it is now from the very beginning.
However, I'm unclear if believing that the Papacy did not always have the universal jurisdiction and papal infallibility it has now is something that goes against dogma that is required to be believed by Catholics. It seems like Vatican I requires belief that its claims about the Papacy were always true from the beginning, but from my studying I just can't understand how that can be true.
Any insight that could be provided on whether I can be a Catholic in good standing or not while holding to the development concept of the Papal Office would be greatly appreciated.
