A list of puns related to "Boston Brahmin"
Just the general vibe that they give off, accent and their appearance seems very Brahmin-esque. Am I totally wrong to think this?

βThat is the handwriting of Abraham . . .β
In 1844, just forty-three days before his death, Joseph Smith entertained two prominent Nauvoo visitors, Charles Francis Adams and his cousin Josiah Quincy. Adams was the son of a former President, John Quincy Adams. He was thirty-six years old and a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives at the time of his visit. He later established the anti-slavery Boston Whig, became a Free-Soil candidate for Vice President and served a term in Congress. During the Civil War, he served with distinction as Lincolnβs Minister to England. βBefore his death in 1886 he edited the many-volumed Works of John Adams and the Memoirs of John Quincy Adams.β Joseph Quincy became the Mayor of Boston in 1845, one of three Quincys who served that city at one time or another in that capacity. Both Adams and Quincy, βBoston Brahmins,β kept journals. Quincyβs notes support the following recitals. (Mulder and Mortensen, Among the Mormons, 131). Quincy did not view the Mormon prophet unfavorably. Joseph Smith was thrown into relief before us βnot as a rogue to be criminated, but as a phenomenon to be explained.β
At some point during their visit, the prophet beckoned his guests to view what he called the βcuriosities.β He led them to a room inhabited by a respectable-looking lady. ββThis is my mother, gentlemen. The curiosities we shall see belong to her. They were purchased with her own money, at a cost of six thousand dollarsβ . . . .β He directed their attention to βsome pine presses fixed against the wall of the room. These receptacles Smith opened, and disclosed four human bodies, shrunken and black with age. βThese are mummies,β said the exhibitor. βI want you to look at that little runt of a fellow over there. He was a great man in his day. Why that was Pharaoh Necho, King of Egypt!ββ
βSome parchments [Egyptian papyri] inscribed with hieroglyphics were then offered us. They were preserved under glass and handled with great respect. βThat is the handwriting of Abraham, the Father of the Faithful,β said the prophet. βThis is the autograph of Moses, and these lines were written by his brother Aaron. Here we have the earliest account of the Creation, from which Moses composed the First Book of Genesis.β *The parchment last r
... keep reading on reddit β‘In my reading of history, people from prominent families in New York, Boston, and other areas of the country figure very prominently from the American revolution to about the 1920s. For example, the Lodge, Shaw, Adams, and Peabody families (to name a few).
After that point, it seems far more rare to see influential players who come from these families. Did they die out? Did wealth spread so thinly through the generations that they lost their influence? Did the Great Depression remove their significance?
It's a little history joke, the (Original/oldest) roads in Boston were made following cow paths. This made Boston roads very disorganized.

Hey all, I got an idea from a front page post this morning where I would post a daily piece of Boston history with a brief background in order to prepare us for Fallout 4! Let me know what you think!
Today, the first day, is the Brahmin Elite! They were considered members of Boston's upper class and led inconspicuous and shady lifestyles. Many famous people during Revolutionary times were a part of the Brahmin, including John Adams, Samuel Adams (the man, not the beer) and Thomas Dudley!
That's pretty funny considering brahmin importance in the world of Fallout. I wonder if there'll be references, insults, puns, whatever referring to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Brahmin
I'm sorry if this is the wrong subreddit. I'm trying to find out what were the top venues the elites would rent out for their daughters coming out ceremonies in the late 19th century?
Academic sources may be hard to come by; I'm sure there must have been diction courses or similar.
I'd been thinking about the whole East Coast vs West Coast thing again, what made the West more "Adventurous" compared to the East and why you hear more about "Tales of the Wild West" and all.
Doing some research into what East Coast society was like in the Antebellum times after the Revolution but before the Civil War I came across some interesting stuff about Boston society and New England society as a whole. They had their own attempt at an American Aristocracy.
And get this, they called themselves the "Boston Brahmins". John Adams' family was among their members. There was a bit of a clash between the "Old Families" who could trace their ancestry back to the Mayflower and the "Nouveau Riche" types who made their money and name only afterwards. Much like today, really.
The West Coast has the "Brahmin Barons" who are obvious stand-ins for old Cattle Barons. Owning Ranches, the best livestock, breeding them, expanding their power politically and economically. The Old East had/have their own counterpart to this, the "Codfish Aristocracy" who made their money with the various fisheries.
So it came to me that just like Brahmins replaces Cows as the main Livestock used by the Barons to gain their wealth and power, then any enterprising Easterner would try the same thing using what the Old East had as one "Natural" Resource: Marine Life.
FO3 already told us how Mirelurk Meat was considered a delicacy and a major trade good with the operation running in the Anchorage War Memorial. And in FO4 we outright had Raiders at Thicket Excavations who held Mirelurks in Pens probably for the same reason. And then there was that one guy who thought he could tame Mirelurks and make them docile and friendly. Didn't work out, but you have to applaud the effort...
Diamond City had it's Rich Elite at the Taphouse and it's implied that at least one of them made money with livestock. Is it believable that folks could try to harvest and maintain a controllable source of Mirelurks for their meat and become "Mirelurk Aristocrats" the same way the West has its Brahmin Barons?
The house she grew up in is a Brahmin brownstone. I donβt get it
Let's meet today's contestants:
Tyler didn't find any DDs but his opponents missed all of them, so he held onto a comfortable runaway at $16,200 vs. $4,800 for Mike. Carrie finished in the red at -$200.
DD1 - $1,000 - TRIPLE ALLITERATION - One of this organization's missions is "calling out and addressing substandard marketplace behavior" (Carrie lost $2,000 from her score of $3,400.)
DD2 - $1,200 - TWO WORDS, TWO SYLLABLES EACH - Meaning you're good at talking with others, this alliterative phrase begins with a plural word & ends with its singular form (Mike lost $5,000 from his total of $6,200 vs. $15,400 for Tyler.)
DD3 - $1,200 - FAMILY IS EVERYTHING - Prominent Boston families like the Cabots & Winthrops have been dubbed with this collective name from a caste of India (Carrie lost $2,000 from her score of $2,600 vs. $15,400 for Tyler.)
FJ - 1960s HISTORY - After around 8 PM EDT on July 21, 1969 a major part of a transport known by this 1-word name was never seen again
Both players were correct on FJ. Tyler added $3,800 to win with $20,000 for a four-day total of $78,301.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the film in which Seth Brundle transforms is "The Fly".
One more thing: There was a video clue about the symbol for the family of Maryland's founder, for which Baltimore was not accepted as an alternative for Calvert. A few months ago, there was an FJ clue about the crest of Lord Baltimore, but that clue did not require the family name, although presumably Calvert would have been accepted.
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is the Better Business Bureau? DD2 - What is people person? DD3 - What is Brahmin? FJ - What is Eagle?
Hello! I've never posted here, apologies if it's the wrong subreddit.
I'm changing my name soon and I have a few options, but none of them feel quite right, however, I love the specific vibe of them!
Brutus, Wilbur / Wilburn (My favorite), Icarus
Here's a playlist I made that fit the vibe I want :)
There's scrap everywhere, but that's the case for all of America. Scrap is finite, it'll run out and if they rely on it, they'll need to aggressively expand like how the NCR does.
There's the wild life which could be hunted, either for meat or pelts or bone. But they'll be driven off into the interior as the settlements stabalise.
There's fish. There's crops, fertile land and rain doesn't seem to be in short supply. There aren't any Brahmin Barons but there enough for Wild Brahmin to be around.
Vault 88 has Uranium, which could be potentially underneath all of Boston.
There's Iron Ore in Dunwich Borers. The raiders there are mining for the Forged.
There's Marble in Dunwich, Thicket and Quincy.
What else is there around the Commonwealth? Any unique factories that would be an advantage to control?
Do your worst!
The Republicans will have a tough time winning in 1964, especially with the nomination of Bobby Kennedy for the Democrats. However, in a speck of hope, they have attracted a new wing of support - the "New Conservatives" also known as Neoconservatives. But, before the GOP attracts new to support it will have to unite its different factions.
William Scranton -
William "Bill" Scranton II hails from the Keystone State of Pennsylvania. Coming from a family that has a rich history in politics and named the city of Scranton (where The Office was made), politics was an easy profession for Bill to enter. He started in the State Department under President Eisenhower (and has continued to keep his close contact with the former President who is rumored to have privately urged him to run). As Ike left office, he entered office in 1960 at the US House of Reps. He is a firm "Liberal" Republican, supporting much of JFK's social policies including Civil Rights and the Peace Corps. Elected in 1962 as a moderate, he has continued his liberal streak. During his tenure, he has increased state spending by 40%, created a new education system, and presided over a lowering of unemployment. This has made Scranton the darling of the Liberals after Nelson Rockefeller's loss in 1960. But, a Scranton win could drive even more normal conservatives to George Wallace...
Barry Goldwater -
Barry Goldwater, Senator from Arizona
Senator Barry M. Goldwater is known as "Mr. Conservative" and hails from Arizona. After fighting in World War 2, Goldwater returned to America with an eye for politics. Winning in 1952 in a historic win against the Senate Majority Leader Ernest McFarland in Arizona. In the Senate, he has been the leading Conservative voice. His positions are strongly Anti-Communist, against labor corruption, for lower taxes and lower government spending, and lower farm subsidies. Goldwater is also very well-liked among his fellow Senators and is seen as a "dangerous man" by many in the public at large. This is in no small part due to his jokes about nuking the men's room of the Kremlin and other gaffes. On the issue of Civil Rights, Goldwater has had a long record of supporting racial integr

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

My current game is experiencing severe crash problems, usually once every 15-20 minutes of gameplay. Sometimes, I'll be walking around or in the middle of a fight, and BOOM! CTD, without any sign of an error message or lag before crashing. The game also crashes during saving, notably more frequently, which includes regular saving, quicksaving, and autosaving. The game freezes and I get the "Fallout 4 has stopped working." message. I tried starting a brand new game, but I still get the same problems. No idea what's causing it. Please send help.
