Why Ralph Cifaretto is the best mobster in the show imo

Apart from being the best earner which should be all that matters...

He might break balls, but he won't get in the way of another man earning.

  • Upset with Sil when he crashed his and Tracy's lazy day. But once Sil mentioned the money, Ralph knew Tracy had to go with Sil.

He's compassionate towards his brothers and fam

  • The first one to congratulate Chris on taking Paulie's spot as Capo. Ralphie knows what it means to get that promotion
  • Was trying to show Jackie Jr around and have some fun. He saw a struggling young man.

He's knowledgeable in Italian history

  • "Two Minutes In Charge And He Thinks He's Lee Iacocca". That probably went over everyone's head. You can tell Ralph reads Bloomberg and has a mind for business, while those morons are just thinking about who they can collect/rob from next.
  • "No Flattops in Ancient Rome".

He's not afraid to stick up for himself when necessary

  • Made a good point when Tony was all butthurt over a horse but doesn't think twice when taking his heavy envelopes. Tony indeed eats pork and sausage by the carload, so he shouldn't be grieving over dead animals.
  • Defended himself against Tracy who sucker-punched him. Really uncalled for.

He's a calculating man

  • He didn't loan Artie money
  • Without any help from anyone else, he found out that Paulie was the one who snitched to Johnny Sacks.

He's just a fun guy to be around

  • Sometimes family and friendship are about laughter. Ralph makes people laugh. Paulie's jealousy is what ruined everything.
  • I mean, you have to be one witty person do to do a prank call like that on the spot. That's a gift in itself.

Respect from a NY Family boss, Carmine

  • Carmine Sr wouldn't put a hit on Ralphie. He knew Ralphie's worth even though he was in the NJ Crew. This is after making a distasteful joke about a made man's wife.
  • Yet, Carmine doesn't even know who the fvk a guy like Paulie is. This speaks volumes.

He forgives:

  • He forgives Tony for cucking him and stealing Valetina. Tony was stooping low here, but Ralphie didn't take it personal. She was just a whore. Unlike Tony, who would drive across town to beat you if you banged a former hoe of his; or he bitch and moan to his shrink about it.

In conclusion, Ralphie isn't perfect. But I think Tony's and the DiMeo crime family would have been much better off if Tony cut the crap and gave Ralphie the Capo spot over an airhead like Gigi. We should all feel what Ralph we are feeling here. I'm sure we've had a job where som

Dirty Carnival - Most realistic Asian mobster movie

Gomorrah fans might like this movie. It was said to be the most realistic Korean gangster movie by real gangsters. Fight scenes were made from the input of actual gangsters, as opposed to cheesy martial arts or unrealistic action scenes that polluted other Asian gang films.

I'd say the 2nd best Asian gangster movie is New World (2013). Good cinematography, but a bit Hollywood-ish.

The smartest mobster?

I was thinking about this earlier when I saw a snake with fur on my endeavors -who was the smartest of the gangsters?

I sort of compiled a little list in my head and narrowed it down to:

Tony Undoubtedly highly intelligent and charismatic which made people follow him, however his flaws were impulsivity which sometimes clouded his judgment and while he had many strategically smart moves (like letting Junior be the boss) many of them actually came from other people like Melfi or Sil, even Hesh.

Tony B The man with a very high IQ and street smarts, for some reason this didn't translate very much into his criminal life first he spent 2(?) decades in prison and once he got out he ended up being Steve Buscemi'd by Tony. His highlight was probably stopping Chrissys execution by taking him see a doctor who explained Adrianas bruises with the seat belt and thus convincing Christopher that nothing happened between Tony and Ade. Saving the boss his nephew and a valuable asset as well as restoring peace.

Johnny Sack Definitely one of the top contenders for me, he expertly used Paulie for information for the benefit of his own family and managed to prevent a war between the families as well. That being said his flaws came to light when he became the number 1 and much like Tony, became selfish and started making poor decisions at least at first due to emotions and ego.

Silvio Not much to say here really apart from him often being the voice of reason and being quite skilled in handling Tony and his outbursts. Like a good consigliere should highly rational and calm, able to consider several points of views. Only minus I can think of is having his gun in the car during a Mafia war and not on his person...

Honorable mention to Livia, not a part of the family so technically not eligible but she certainly had the manipulation down to a tee, making Junior look like the feeble minded brother.

Difficult choice really. In the show as a whole it seemed like the women were quite intelligent either through critical thinking (Melfi, Meadow) or through skills of manipulation (Livia, Janice)

Examples of how Americanized the mobsters were

Always found it hilarious that the pygmy crew flaunted their Italian roots, but were Americanized to the core.

Lincoln log sandwiches and Paulie in Italy are some good ones but my favorite would have to be Paulie at buttfuck’s ranting about the rape of the food culture. What gets me is that he proceeds to list the most generic Italian-American foods: pizza, calzone, buffalo mozzarella. Any favorites you all have?

Why didn't the mobsters in the show learn ASL(American Sign Language)

Think about it. These guys move their hands more than air traffic controllers, so why not do it to evade law enforcement? These guys get busted by the Feds for getting caught on wiretaps, talking about hits, and other crimes. If they learned sign language, these guys would be fucking unstoppable. They could also recruit some mute guys in the mob, who's going to catch them on wiretaps? It would also make the family more progressive and less ableist(the mob should be an equal opportunity employer). They had a shopping cart as an associate in the series there is some precedent there. It would also be pretty hilarious seeing Paulie taking sign language classes. You're going to tell me you never pondered that?
