When will a song about Desmond Doss, the Battle of Okinawa, Leyte Gulf, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, Burma Campaign, The Philippines Campaign, Attack on Pearl Harbor, Kamikaze pilots and the Banzai chargers be written? I wish a next album will be focused about the Pacific War.

During the Battle of Leyte Gulf, what exactly was going on with Admiral Halsey and how were his subsequent actions influenced following "THE WORLD WONDERS" message?

If it isn't too broad of a question, I'd love to hear Admiral Halsey's decisions prior to the decrypted message, his reaction to said message, and what transpired as a result.

Admiral Nimitz and Admiral Halsey both seem to take on significant leader roles, I'd love to determine how particular strengths and weaknesses possibly influenced avoidable threats or harvested opportunities.

The story sounds fascinating, I'm excited to learn more.

Thank you!

Edit: u/wotan_weevil produced an excellent summary of controversies behind Halsey which certainly shapes the commander's character. It also covers the events prior to the message and confirms Admiral Halsey was indeed upset.

Still would be interested to see if there is anything left to expand on how significant the miscommunication was on any subsequent actions, if anything could have been avoided as a result, or if the event led to subsequent successes / corrected decision-making etc.

This old letter written in 1944 was posted yesterday in another sub and I really thought it would be fun to try to find who the people were in this letter, but didn't have any luck. Any sleuths up for a challenge?
