A list of puns related to "BSA (The Software Alliance)"
Just wanted to check and see if reporting licensing violations would violate these agreements. When installing the software, the EULA's require that the licenses be valid and of the correct type for the installation. Management knows of the issue. Just wanted to see if anyone has seen this stuff play out before. I'm sure the BSA will keep my information confidential as I am not aware of any law in Texas that would require they disclose my information. Would the company I'm reporting be able to obtain that information from the BSA? Thanks in advance.
So a few months ago there seemed to be a big upcoming discussion about the BSA and whether it was sensible to keep the BSA in its current form during these times.
This is my third study. My first studies were done in London and now I am studying econometrics at the VU. So the whole BSA system thing is new to me and honestly, just all round stupid to have. Back in the UK, if you have problems, don't pass the first year whatever, you simply go through to the second year, retake some exams and go from there. Students don't have to worry about their performance in the first year. In fact in my experience, students usually do better in their second and third years as opposed to their first years.
Anyways, I will get straight to the question: Why keep the BSA in its current form during this lockdown?
Having studied before I can say from experience that being on campus, interacting with other students and teachers in an academic environment really leads to better learning (and grades IMO). Having a structured day on campus, studying, having lunch, meeting people, exchanging ideas, that all helps ones learning. Not being able to separate home from study, know my colleagues or teachers and not being in an academic environment really makes everything that little bit harder.
As long as universities keep the BSA in its current form, I really cant see how universities actually give a shit about their students.
Is anything going to be done about the BSA this year? Or do students not get a voice in this.
I'll see myself out.

Wouldnβt a better course of action have been to report people who were raping and molesting children? Maybe Iβm off base.
TLDR: Mormon church has destroyed jobs in their selfish move of leaving the BSA.
I was talking with a TBM today and we got to the topic of conference and changes. I brought up that I really don't like how the church backed out of the BSA. The TBM was not super worried about it untill I brought up that numbers have crashed hard and that had destroyed many thousands of jobs. He was like really?!? I explained that at my scout camp alone 80+ paid jobs have disappeared because there aren't enough scouts to run a full camp. Multiply that against the 7 other camps in my council and our 1000+ summer staff for all eight camps in years past is now 200 ish. Now in Nevada or Idaho a couple council's have disappeared and that takes the council executives, scout shop employees, office aides, ect. Out of a jobs that many of them enjoyed and a lot of them loved. The Mormon churche's one decision to leave the BSA has taken jobs as well as taken away the opportunity for many young men to learn the values, make great friends and learn and practice survival skills in a safe environment. I will continue to support the BSA even despite their short comings untill the end wether that is in 5 years or in another 110. This is edited down for clarity, our conversation was more in depth, but I digress.
It seemed very childish for them to leave and all it did was mess up the kids having fun in scouting, I think a big reason I left scouting was because of the senseless drama where I lived, but I loved scouting, the brotherly bond with was very awesome and we always backed eachother up, even in school, I just wanted to wish everyone luck on their hobbies or ranking up or whatever! I also would love to start a thread talking about the best outing you have been on.
One would expect this to be low as attorneys would go after the church with deep pockets rather than BSA.
I am guessing. Anyone know actual percentages?
Either way, way to dump a friend in need.
I recently graduated with a bachelorβs degree in computer science, but originally transferred into this degree from being pre-vet. Iβd talked myself out of going for a pre-vet degree because I was worried about what kind of job I would be able to work if I never got into vet school. Now Iβm graduated, in a very rocky spot in my life, and am feeling a strong tug to go towards my original plan.
A little background about me: Iβve always wanted to be a veterinarian, like all little girls do, but it never morphed into another professional goal like it seemed to for others. Iβve always had a special place in my heart for animals, and could often be found nursing birds that fell out of trees or abandoned baby squirrels. We had some sort of pet almost constantly growing up, and the trend continued once I left the nest. I guess I let go of the dream thinking that I love taking care of pets with my emotional love more than I would love the medicine behind it all, thinking that the science would make the job impersonal. But in retrospect, I had a favorite organ system at age 5, I would pretend to deliver my beanie babiesβ babies, and my favorite class in high school was human anatomy. So I guess my big deterrents for pursuing a DVM were the admissions process (I donβt have any formal animal experience aside from house-sitting/dog walking and wasnβt the best CS student [note: I basically hated it but convinced myself that finishing any degree was better than none at all]), the price (I already have 30,000 in debt), the salary cut in comparison to a software job, emotional toll, and that I wasnβt exactly sure exactly where the day-to-day duties differed between vets and techs. Because I donβt have even close to enough experience to apply, I decided I would go to vet tech school and get licensed to be able to work in a veterinary clinic environment to gain the hours, and use that experience as leverage on my application. But, what if what Iβm looking for in a job is actually found in being a tech? In the same breath, what if I prefer the duties of a veterinarian and didnβt need to spend the time and money on vet tech school? Iβve pretty much decided that I want to go for one of these professions, but am having trouble deciding which would be a better fit for me.
(Edit: the most reasonable option for me is a DVM due to the higher salary, but in the above paragraph I wanted to mention my plan of becoming a tech before I apply to schools to see if anyone had a better op
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hubby and son are at BSA LDS camp this week. They are exmo & nonmo, which is odd enough. With the church pulling out of scouts, my dh was the only adult from the ward (area) willing to go with the troop. Long ridiculous story there, for another timeβ¦
Anyway, a handful of boys had to create their own game for the Game Design merit badge. They asked my dh to be their beta tester. He says it was the best part of his week. The game was inspired by Monopoly:
β’ If you get in trouble or canβt pay rent/tithing (on a spot you land on), you have to go to seminary. In the words of the boys, βItβs the worst place to be.β
β’ You can try to sneak out of βseminaryβ but if you are caught, you are excommunicated and your money will be taken.
β’ If you land on a temple spot, you are doomed to x2 the length of stay in βseminaryβ.
β’ The point of the game is to try to sneak out of the bad spots (Bishops office, moving truck or seminary) 3X without being caught. If you do, you are also excommunicated but win everyone elseβs money.
Glad the boys picked my dh, I donβt think the other leader paired up with him would have found any of it humorous. Apparently that guyβs not-so-quick prayers around the camp circle every night are so mind-numbing that a couple of the boys tried crushing Smartie candies up and snorting them. Blah!
We're looking to a make a logo and dont know what to use.
All of the boys in my sonβs troop took their swim tests at summer camp, but my son was afraid to swim in cold, murky water. He wants to take the test in a pool for his rank advancement, but Iβm not sure who needs to be there to watch him swim. Should a (non-BSA) lifeguard do it? Should the SM do it? Can I make a video of him doing it and show it to his SM? Or does it need to be a certified BSA lifeguard?
EDIT: Just to clarify, I understand the requirements that must be done to pass the test. But who can sign off on it / witness it?
And for bonus extra credit, why do i still give a rat's ass?
I got in, but I'm worried that the program might take too long to finish. Thanks po!
This isn't about protecting children, it's a CYOA so when abuse occurs they can say the abuser was in violation of policy and here's the proof he/she knew the policy.
The last screen is "CONGRATULATIONS! Your awareness of policy has now been recorded (on Earth and in heaven)." This is to protect the church, not the children.
A company that I contract for received a notification back in Feb 2017 from Microsoft requesting us to do an SAM audit. AT the time, they had had no interest in entertaining this audit, as it was not mandatory and seemed to be more of an annoyance. So we opted out and told them we did not have time.
Fast forward to 2018, the company received a letter from BSA (big surprise huh?). BSA's tone is much different, and now they essentially have no choice other than risk a lawsuit. So they are complying. The BSA law firm requested us to send all records of purchase, and identify all systems in use (windows OS, Server OS, CAL, etc).
So here is where I am confused. I see a lot of experiences of companies dealing with BSA, reporting delinquencies in licensing, etc. While I know being dishonest would be completely unethical and potentially make the situation much worse - BUT there is no way BSA knows how many OS's you are actually running. The company could report that we are using 200x Windows 7 licenses, and running 20x 2012 Servers, and BSA would know no difference.
BSA would then compare your submitted number to the PO's and purchase proof.
How is a BSA audit effective? If a company is delinquent in licensing, or pirating software, why would they be honest in the submission of information to BSA? Where is the check and balance here?
Any experiences with BSA are more than welcome.
