I already have my mind made up but I'm curious what y'all think.
I was thinking about Ashanti after Fat Joe was posting about her being really pretty.
How big was Ashanti?
Was she on the same level as Britney, Aaliyah, J.Lo, etc, and what was it like during her hits era? (Late 2001-2004)
As an avid African history buff, my excitement was immeasurable when Origins was first announced. Africa prior to Origins was in a really sad state and clearly incomplete. Perhaps there was no better example of just how underdeveloped the region was than the area of Modern Ghana. This region, the size of Great Britain which saw the dramatic rise and fall of multiple fascinating empires, is composed of 8 provinces. Half of these provinces are uncolonized, while the other half belong to Bono and Dagbon, two states which are woefully flavorless. While I thought Origins as a whole was pretty cool, I was quite disappointed to see that one of my favorite regions of the world remained in such a sad position. So, I decided to make a mod focused entirely on Ghana to allow people to play as the incredible kingdoms, confederacies, and empires that ruled Ghana in the early modern period. I started the project yesterday, and here is what I have so far.

So far, I have added 12 new tags and 15 new provinces. Additionally, 8 new cultures have been added. Akan, once a single culture, has now been split into a culture group with 6 sub-cultures. I also plan to add an additional culture, Ewe, in the West African culture group, which will appear via event around 1600 in the southeast region, as well as more revolter tags like Larteh and a theocratic Guang-cultured state in Dagbon.
So, without further adiu, let's talk about what was going on in early modern Ghana. The story of Early-Modern Ghana begins with the migration of the Akan. The Akan were a people fleeing from the chaos of the decline of the Empire of Ouagadou (often called the Ghana Empire) in the early 12th Century. The ancestors of the Akan settled in the north of the region, and created a kingdom called Bono Manso. Over the next few centuries, many Bono people began settler further into Ghana, where they came into contact with the Guang, another ethnic group that had settled in Ghana a few hundred years earlier. Through a combination of conflict and assimilation, the Akan expanded further into southern Ghana, establishing many new states and creating several new subcultures.
A new trade node has been created to better reflect the trade relationship between the states of the Volta river basin and their neighbors to the north and South. Trade map mode here At the game's start date, t
