Hello, my name is Allison Mollenkamp and I cover redistricting in Maryland for Capital News Service. Iβve been on the beat since September and will be here through the special session in December.
Marylandβs redistricting process so far has worked through two commissions. Gov. Larry Hogan put together one with a balance of Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters, none of whom are members of the legislature. Senate President Bill Ferguson and House Speaker Adrienne Jones also established a commission, which includes four Democratic members of the Legislature, two Republican members, and a chair who formerly led the Department of Legislative Services.
Hoganβs commission presented him with maps earlier this month. You can see their proposals for congressional and legislative mapsΒ here. The legislative commission released four draft congressional maps, and you can see all of themΒ here.
About me: I'm finishing my master's in journalism this December. I spent last summer as an intern with NPRβs investigations team.
