Andy shouldn’t have been on it. He clearly doesn’t like Norm. He gets his back up about the Swedish German bit. He should have had the decency to call in sick that day smh

Andy showed up on Tim Heidecker’s podcast recently. His presence was coincidental but Tim brought up Norm because he’s a huge fan, also knowing that Andy sat beside Norm many times.
Almost the first thing Andy does is talk about Norm’s running bit about Andy being gay. His main issue was how problematic it was to him. He said it made him feel awkward because he knows gay people, and Andy seemed to think that the jokes Norm had for him were making fun of gay people. No other insight.
First of all, I think this must speak to Andy’s deep insecurities more than anything. As Norm often joked, these panderers who say they support gay people are always the first to use it as an actual insult by calling those critical of them gay, “as if that’s a bad thing.” As he complains they can’t even quite nail why it’s bad. Norm came in with these insanely well crafted old jokes and specifically involved Andy, and unbelnownst to him Andy resented him for it on behalf of other people the entire time.
Only after several minutes of bashing Norm while talking about himself, on what could have been a great pseudo-tribute episode so shortly after the man died, does Andy Richter the Swedish German vaguely brush his rant aside with some truth, remembering out loud how nihilist and all-encompassing Norm’s humor is. Between praising Norm for being a magnet for controversy by the way, in blissful irony, he answers his own question this way and learns nothing ultimately.
I could write more about what this says about modern comedy and what Norm’s passing will come to represent about the death of a kind of honesty and fearlessness in comedy, but I just needed to share this and remark. Remark on how much respect I lost in gay old Andy Richter for not getting it, for being a bitch behind a legend’s dead back, and how much I love Norm Macdonald. RIP
Edit: word of advice, I don’t literally hate Andy I’m actually a fan. I just thought this moment needed to be shared, in fact I think Andy is a gentleman and a scholar.

Listen Andy talk about Norm on the episode that was just released of Conans podcast. How well he understood Norm and his comedy and personality. Also they talk about reaching to Norm to be on the podcast and the show, and him not accepting, probably because of his condition. So we can lay to rest the rumors about Andy not wanting Norm on the show. I still own Andy 50 cents tho'.
Andy Richter at 53min's saying Norm wouldn't do a show with Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle because he wanted to have all the attention on him. You can hear Conan give an audible "hmmmm" after Andy says this.
Andy Richter also bashes Norm for his 'swedish german' gay jokes, meanwhile, you can find plenty of clips of Andy making gay jokes on Conan in the '90s.
