A list of puns related to "And Now for Something Completely Different"
Itβs been two years. Iβm properly on the other side of this habit, looking back on a journey that started with wishing for what I have right now, or some semblance of it. After all I didnβt even know at the time exactly what I wanted to see happen specifically, except that I knew for sure that I wasnβt going to keep on going as I was. I was after satisfaction, change, something immaterial and intangible. I decided to pull myself up by my bootstraps and walk away from alcohol, for starters. And itβs been liberating. Best thing Iβve ever done. Predictably, things have all changed for the better. And for me it seems mostly to have occurred on an emotional and psychological level. Feeling much better in general is giving me the motivation and wherewithal to go for other things in life Iβm interested in, and having been through the gauntlet of quitting and all it entailed has made me a stronger and more resilient human. Feels good, man. Peace to all my fellow quitters and as always much love for everyone who has been here during my process and everyone whose shoulders I stood on to get myself here. Love this sub. Thanks for showing me how to get my life back. π€Έπ»ββοΈππ 2 years!!!
I've been running a tabletop pen and paper RPG game based on Hunt. If I were to write up the games and put them on this sub as an episodic story/adventure log or something would people be interested in reading it?
As the title says. What ads do you not mind, what caught your eye, and what drive you absolutely 'nanners every time they come up?
For me it's the Casino/Slots/e-VLT machine ones; I'm playing a game that's skirting gambling laws as is, and may be in for a bitter reality with further legislation given Gatcha and such. I really don't need OUTRIGHT gambling ads lumped in that, I find it pretty damn scummy. What about the rest of you?
Many thanks to /u/enterta_ for selecting my clue in the last round.
#And now for something completely differentβ¦
So this week's theme is not so different after all: just give me your best clues that somehow connect to Monty Python, be it the cast, their films, their most famous sketches, or anything else you can think of.
I will pick the winner next Thursday, GOOD LUCK!
And the winner is⦠/u/teamcrazymatt with this clever clue:
Forty-two is the average (in first grade) of fifty-one and five... no, four (3,7,2,4)
>!THE MEANING OF LIFE!<
mod note: this should have happened a while ago, but it didn't, so this is probably the least messy way to deal with it

>(CNN) - Growing sentiments towards independence in Bermuda have boiled over as Canadian PMCs bear down on the UCR overseas territories. Disavowing the reckless UCR administration, and declaring it to have no jurisdiction to transfer them to the Netherlands, Bermuda's legislature has passed a bill proclaiming independence, and called upon the American Republic to safeguard it against a PMC attack expected to come at any time.
Tell me if this sounds familiar: you're playing like normal and you think you've got the measure of the soundscape. Then you hit a new area and suddenly... "woah, this is different." Sometimes it comes with a story beat. Sometimes it's a style that doesn't match everything else. Sometimes it's a spot of goodness in a bland tracklist or a sour note in a great set.
So what's jumped out at everyone?
Seriously, I will never understand why there are so few Harlequin-Monty Python references. We ARE the flying circus after all, and I'm pretty sure the Serpent's Brood is a direct reference by the designers. Monty (Mounted... masque that encourages being mounted in flying cars the most) Python (Serpent...).
Anyway, that's not what I'm here about. :D
I'm pretty new to 8th edition, only a few games under my belt (and none with Harlies yet, they're my second army), but I've been wargaming since the 80's and have played 40k since the Rogue Trader era (skipping 6th and 7th for reasons I'll share over a pint sometime). Something I've found very useful from time to time is to do something we called in the Army "field problems". Basically, figuring out what you'd do if the world *wasn't* your oyster. In the context of wargaming, the way I like to do that is by considering how you'd optimize an army build and its tactics that specifically has to avoid some or all of the things that "everybody says are essential".
In the case of Harlequins, I know there are lots of exceptions, but when you look at the competitive scene it sure looks like about 99 out of every 100 leotard-wearing space elves are Soaring Spite, maybe with a few Frozen Stars salted in and occasionally a Dreaming DJ so you can squeeze in Curtainfall.
What I want to do here is explore what interesting / cool armies and tactics you could come up with if you were prevented from taking Spite, for example. Or if you could take Dreaming Shadows but Curtainfall was off the menu. Or if you already bought a trio of Voidweavers and *really* didn't want to cut them apart again to make them Starweavers. That kind of thing.
It's a thought experiment in how to get the most mileage out of the lesser-chosen options in our Codex.
And also, pretty sure John Cleese is Cegorach's Avatar. ;)
To distract myself from everything, I have been watching low/highlights from the last two years and I feel sooo much better about what we have back there. No more Melvin, no more Nelson, no more Nelson (Reggie for this one because Nick was far worse and old man pro bowler did make a few plays but was still a liability), and an infusion of new players like Joyner, Abram, Mullen, Riley (go Dogs), and a "you don't have to start anymore" Harris.
Conley and Worley made a lot of big plays and better yet, didn't give up too many big ones. Even with the same amount of pressure, but I expect more this year, I think our boys should be better at stopping long 3rd down conversions which absolutely killed us last year.
Sidebar: the amount of false starts and holdings that killed drive after drive last year must stop. The lack of playing time in PreSeason concerns me for Monday but I'm hoping that Gruden's 2nd year of this offense means everyone is more comfortable. Also, no one talks about Miller but he had some HUGE blocks last year and now he is 100%. No news is good news in this respect.
Last night, AP and I had an overnight. AP is the logistical genius in our relationship, remembering to bring seemingly everything that my undetailed brain doesn't: extra washcloths, lube, toys. This time, she brought a nightlight, because we can never get the right balance between too bright and pitch dark in hotel rooms. So we're unpacking, and I grab the nightlight and plug it in. Looks like it's the perfect brightness. So we finish unpacking and start making out on the bed. Suddenly the light goes out.
I turned to AP and asked how old the nightlight's bulb was. She thought it was brand new. Oh well; next time we'll bring a new light; I get up to turn a light on so we're not blind. As soon as my head pops up, the nightlight goes on.
AP and I agree, the lightbulb must not have been seated right or something. So we get taken by the mood again and start getting busy. The light goes off again. Fuck. I turn to AP and gently ask her if maybe the nightlight might have had a motion sensor (picturing the scene from Young Frankenstein where Gene Wilder questions Marty Feldman about the origins of the brain in the monster).
Anyway, turns out it did have a motion sensor. Of course, being mental adolescents, we didn't do the adult thing: unplug the light and find a new solution. The damned nightlight became the running joke for the night. Every time we did something that would trigger the nightlight, we'd stop and chuckle. Sorry for the anticlimactic ending. I've always sucked at conclusions. π€ͺ
ETA: Had to add a link to the scene in YF.
