Ancient Egyptian Multiplication - a beautiful relation between numbers.

Let's multiply 43 and 41 with the old technique, sometimes known as the Russian method.

Make 2 columns:

Floor divide by 2 the left column until you reach 1; double the right column until you reach the number of steps:

43, 41

21, 82

10, 164

5, 328

2, 656

1, 1312

Then, cross out rows in which the left side is even:

43, 41

21, 82

10, 164

5, 328

2, 656

1, 1312

Then add the remaining components of the right side: 41+82+328+1312 = 1763

=43*41

Improving upon this method:

As a mathematician this relationship is JOYOUS.

Why is so common for people to believe that modern Egyptians are a different race/ethnicity than the Ancient Egyptians?

Sorry, this is a very specific issue that most people probably don't know or care about but as it affects me personally I want to know.

I encounter it on the regular both online and in real life. Usually they'll try to tell me that we aren't the same because we 'used to be' either white Europeans or black Sub Saharan Africans. I've also encountered Indians (like people from India) who insist THEY were the 'real Ancient Egyptians' as well.

I could understand this if that's what recent research had found or something, but it isn't. Modern scientific research shows that the closest relatives of ancient Egyptians are modern Egyptians, genetically. Obviously we're not identical but most modern Egyptians share about 60-90% of our genetic makeup with the ancient remains we've been able to study. There is no other group that shares that high of an affinity.

So back to the issue, there was a study a few years ago that found that modern Egyptians have about 6% more Sub Saharan DNA on average than ancient samples. HEAPS of people were all over the place insisting this meant that somehow we were European white people before and are now something totally different. A 6% increase would NOT mean that we are now completely unrelated to our ancestors. That wouldn't even change someone physically at a detectible level.

Then there are the other versions who will insist (often to the point of threatening us with genocide for not being the right colour) that we used to be 'black'. There is absolutely no evidence of this whatsoever. Even the oldest remains ever found in Egypt (the Nazlet Khater remains, which are dated at about 37k years old) had features of Middle Eastern as well as East African heritage. That's THIRTY THOUSAND YEARS before the society known as 'Ancient Egypt' even existed. So if us being the same mix goes back that far, it's virtually impossible that Nefertiti or Ramesses II were 'black'. We've always been right where North Africa meets West Asia and the Mediterranean. We've ALWAYS been the same basic mix of ethnicities.

I don't understand why it is so difficult for non-Egyptians to accept that yea, we are still the descendants of those people. Just because we're not mummifying our dead or worshipping the same gods doesn't mean we magically morphed into some other ethnicity.

It's weird because I don't usually see the same thing when it comes to other famous ancient civilisations like Rome or Greece. It's pretty well accepted that modern Italians and G

Relation between modern and ancient Egyptians

Hello everyone. I am an Egyptian from the Nile Delta, and I’d like to ask about something.

Until recently, I took it as obvious that modern Egyptians are the obvious descendants of the ancient Egyptians. I assumed that we have some influences of subsaharan-African, Arab, Greek, and other influences in our genetic ancestry, but we are still primarily the descendants of the ancient Egyptians. I also assumed that the muslim Egyptians are the same as coptic ones, only descendants from Coptic converts to Islam over the centuries.

Lately however, I have encountered groups of people with a number of opposing claims. Such as β€œThe ancient Egyptians were black and the modern ones are invading Arabs” or β€œonly Coptic Egyptians are descendants of ancient Egyptians.”

So I’d like to ask, how valid are any of these claims, how close are modern Egyptians to ancient Egyptians, if there is a difference in ancestry between copts and muslims in Egypt, and if there is another group closer to the ancient Egyptians than the modern ones. Thanks in advance for your help!
