[Let's Build] d100 Plot hooks that happen on an airship, skyship or some other flying vessel.

For my west marches campaign, there will be a lot of Airship travel so I thought I would come up with some crazy things that could happen. I already came up with 25 and I had a fun time with them. Can't wait to see what the rest of y'all come up with.

Edit: We quickly reached 111 and people are still sharing so keep em coming and I'll keep updating!

Edit s'more: u/World_of_Ideas also had a similar list of Airship Encounters & Events a couple months ago so I'm gonna add stuff from there as well.

Airship Encounters and Plot Hooks

  1. The airship starts plummeting towards the ground fast.
  2. The airship crashes into a dragon.
  3. One of the passengers is killed and no one knows whodunnit.
  4. Someone "fell" off the edge and all their possessions have been left behind.
  5. The Airship encounters a thunderstorm.
  6. A fire starts in the airship.
  7. "HALT! This is a stick-up!" An old west styled gang is holding up the air
  8. A spontaneous party is thrown by a rich passenger.
  9. Uh-oh! The pilot is drunk again.
  10. A storm giant suffering from 'sleep fightin' is coming straight for the airship.
  11. There is a child missing on the airship.
  12. A dangerous wild beast has escaped from its cage and is lurking around the airship.
  13. A highly contagious disease has started to spread amongst the passengers.
  14. A gang of wyvern riders attempts to rob and destroy the airship.
  15. A plantar and a Solar are having an epic fight in the airships path.
  16. An explosive device has been found amongst the luggage and it's counting down!
  17. A half-blind Roc thinks the airship is a potential mate.
  18. A flock of drunk Pegasi start playing pranks all around the airship.
  19. A giant tractor beam appears from the sky and begins to suck the airship upwards.
  20. You discover a number of very little children on treadmills who are actually making the ship run.
  21. You discover a fight club where the losers are throw down a hole at the bottom of the ship.
  22. There's something smelling from inside the walls. Its a dead body clutching a treasure map.
  23. Everyone on the ship gets food poisoning.
  24. A rift in time and space is torn right in front of the airship and its hiding right for it.
  25. The airship is actually a giant mimic that was heavily sedated. The sedative just wore off.
  26. Another airship flies up next to yours and that pilot signals the other for an aerial race.
  27. No one else on board seems

After 6 years of being the punching bag of senior leadership, over 600 applications later, I finally landed the dream WFH opportunity in my industry. I genuinely could cry.

Been a middle level healthcare manager my entire career. It has been soul crushing. Executive leadership disappointed for you not being able to always do more with less to the point of endangering patients, your team resenting (understandably) you for trying to do more with less, the Pandemic has made this industry next to impossible and frankly unsustainable. I feel terrible for the clinical team members I was responsible for. Healthcare is just disgusting how they have treated front line staff. I could not perpetuate that environment any longer. Only reason I put up with it was to support my family. ~600 applications, countless interviews and failures. So many failures. Finally, that is all going to change.

I landed a permanent remote position in healthtech (an absolute unicorn as the opportunities are few and far between), significantly more money, I name my own hours, double the vacation and triple the paid holidays, 25 paid sick days (allowed to use them as mental health days). It still does not feel real. I feel my mental health dramatically improving and I haven't even started the job.

We all hate our jobs, I get that, but improvement is what I am looking for as the reality of working is not going away for me. I will be getting back the shred of dignity traditional healthcare took denied to me for years.

What I am looking forward to in no particular order:

  • Work outside when weather gets warmer. This is HUGE for me as most healthcare offices for managers never have windows. I have never had a workspace with a window. I despise artificial light, the harm it has done on my migraines, and the effect it has had on my mental health. I would arrive at work before the sun rose and leave after it has set. No more.
  • Getting a lunch break. I am allowed a paid 1 hour lunch to do whatever I please. Anyone that is in healthcare knows a lunch is never given.
  • The freedom to name my own hours
  • Use the time I used for my commute to go to the gym, develop myself personally. I get almost 2 hours a day back to my life.
  • No more water cooler talk with boomers I do not care about. No more forced chuckling at racist/sexist jokes from VP's/Presidents just so I can keep my job. I have always hated it. Fuck them, I am done.
  • I will never have to wear a suit and tie again except when I have needed travel
  • Being able to play music, TV, etc. in the background. I am usually forced to sit in silence as music is considered a distraction at my work.
  • Do the

New article with good overview of industry and solid description of the Xeriant/XTI TriFan 600

https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2021-10-08/how-advanced-air-mobility-revolution-gaining-momentum

The section referring to Xeriant:

β€œXTI Aircraft (Booth 4100D) has previously exhibited at NBAA shows and clearly views the business aviation sector as part of the target market for its hybrid-electric TriFan 600 VTOL. In June, the Colorado-based company announced a joint venture with Xeriant Aerospace through which it aims to bring the new model to market by the end of 2024. Its new partner has committed to investing an initial $10 million.

According to XTI CEO Robert LaBelle, the TriFan 600 will provide an alternative to existing business aircraft and helicopters, which he said is a market potentially worth around $20 billion. He added that the new aircraft will also offer alternatives to existing airlines, trains, and car trips, adding a wider addressable market that he valued at $930 billion. β€œThe price of a ride in our aircraft will be less than what it would cost someone to drive 500 miles in their own car,” he told reporters at XTI's June press conference.

The VTOL will seat six passengers in standard configuration, rising to nine for β€œtaxi” operations. XTI believes it could prove attractive to airlines looking to establish feeder services into major hub airports or serve "thinner" routes with low passenger numbers.

To date, the company says, it has received a total of 202 "reservations" for the $6.5 million TriFan 600. These include 40 firm orders and 40 options from one undisclosed customer, plus a further 122 commitments backed by cash. XTI also intends to offer the aircraft under leases, as well as providing additional services such as insurance. LaBelle said that both companies and private individuals have placed commitments.

XTI's TriFan 600 has three ducted fans, with two on the wing that tilt during the transition between hover and cruise flight, and a third position within the rear fuselage for vertical propulsion. Power will be generated by GE Aviation’s new Catalyst engine, feeding electric motors and batteries. XTI plans to install photovoltaic panels on the top of the fuselage to provide power while the aircraft is on the ground.

The projected range for the TriFan is 750 miles in VTOL mode, with the figure rising to around 1,380 miles when it takes off and lands conventionally on runways. It will have a cruise speed of around 345 mph and can operate at up to 29,000 feet. The 5,800-pound aircraft will have a fu
