A list of puns related to "Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition"
To preface what I say below, I suppose a digestible way to think of this is that I think the death penalty should exist. However, I genuinely do think that the view extends beyond that into thought on what it means for humans to be 'valuable', and hence the title I chose.
My view - I do not think all people deserve to be given the option of one day thinking of themselves as 'good'. Edit - That not all people should be given the option of doing 'enough', to where they are convinced they are 'good' and other people should think they are 'good'.
My understanding of a rehabilitative justice system is that works towards helping people who broke laws become active, healthy, and positive members of society. I believe central to such a system is building the ability to forgive oneself and to think of oneself as having the ability to be good; to think of oneself as being able to give value back to society.
I do not think all people should be given that opportunity. I could give specific examples but listing a non-exhaustive set of acts, which is realistically the only list I could give, seems rather pointless to me. I see even less of a point in trying to define this by listing all acts that are redeemable. Obviously, there are plenty of people who mess up and do deserve a chance to feel like they are 'good' people again, but I do think there are people who do not deserve that chance.
As silly as a question as this sounds, I've been thinking about convicts (ya know for like felons such as murder, rape, and fraud) in the prisons of America. And I'm trying to position myself in this dichotomy on how the criminal justice system should treat inmates and criminals (ranging from peace disturbors all the way to the worst of the worst). Are some criminals more redeemable than others? Should the state focus on helping these individuals reintegrate back into society under the condition they will not be a danger to the public? Or should they remain in solitude for as long as they deserve?
I believe there are mainly two types of cancel culture that we see today. The first type is just cancelling someone from the platform where they committed egregious behavior on. If you act like a piece of shit at a bar, the bar can cancel you from stepping foot in their business in the future. If you are harassing people and being racist on Twitter, Twitter can ban you.
The second type of cancel culture is advocating for the person's cancellation outside of just the platform where they committed egregious behavior. I've seen people go as far as getting people fired from their jobs, getting people kicked out of college, getting people evicted, etc. This is the type of cancel culture that I am focusing on in my CMV.
To be clear, I would consider myself on the left politically. However, I am against the left's embrace of this second type of cancel culture because I find it very hypocritical. How can you on the one hand laugh at someone for losing their job for saying something racist or insensitive online, then on the other hand advocate for a more rehabilitative justice system where even murderers should have a path towards redemption and a normal life?
I see this all the time where the same people that ridicule a white person for getting fired from their job or kicked out of college will go around saying that a black guy involved in gang violence should be offered rehabilitation. Either both should be extended a path to redeem themselves, or both should be subject to retributive justice. Having one position for one type of person and another position for another shows that you are ideologically motivated, have no principles, and are hypocritical. CMV
My PT said it may be a couple months before my nerve becomes loose enough for PT exercises and I should only stretch right now, but stretching and breath work alone isn't calming down my nerve fast enough. How can I relax and loosen the pelvic floor while also giving the pudendal nerve proper rest and nutrition to heal once it becomes less tight?
If you aren't familiar, he is the suspect that ran over dozens of people during a Waukesha Christmas parade, just after escaping a domestic dispute, and has a lengthy criminal record including sexual prostitution of a minor (if I remember correctly). This guy is quite a mess. And people are justifiably angry with him.
But it's also apparent that the criminal system has failed him and all of his victims thus far. We don't know too much about this guy, such as what is going on in his mind, if he suffers from any mental impairments, anger or what have you. But if we establish restorative justice and abolish systems of punishment, including prison, how do we keep him in the community while keeping everyone safe, without locking him up?
Hi! I've been getting to know more about Anarchism (and it's been a blast)
I was just wondering: I know that anarchists want to abolish prisons, (and as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) they want to rehabilitate those who committed anti-social acts against those in the community.
How would this work, and how would this be incentivized? (i.e more access to community resources once completed?)
much love.
Does a punitive approach happen?
Those with non-serious answers, your jokes donβt mean oogatz to me!
Those with serious answers, Iβm having my wine and peaches. You want?
Do you guys think that all crimes should be put into a rehabilitation program? And do you think that we should put offenders into a facility (basically prison) or should we let them live in their residence like home arrest (they can still travel within limited distance) with supervision?
