A list of puns related to "1993 Houston Oilers season"
I'm going to the game on Saturday and I want to see what it was like back then so afterwards I can compare it to our most recent playoff win over a Houston team!
So Iβm getting back into some writing via a potential new novel, with a side villain based on βhow Houston remembers Bud Adamsβ. To keep it from being a simple caricature, are there any other flavors of awful I should take into account?
I've been a fan since 99, had they changed their name in 97 I would have been a fan sooner. How long have you been a fan? What do you think of the win streak? Will it sustain? Will it lead to a superbowl?
Warren Moon led the Oilers to 7 consecutive winning seasons from 1987-1993
Houston Oilers WR Charley Hennigan had one of the best receiving years in pro football history
Charley Hennigan had one of the best years for a WR in pro football history in 1961. Hennigan had 82 catches for 1,746 yards and 12 touchdowns for the pass-happy Houston Oilers, led by George Blanda. The Oilers also won the AFL Championship that season.
To put this season in more context, Hennigan had a 570 yard lead on the runner-up WR. His yardage lead was more yards than all but 15 other WRs had the entire season in the AFL.
Hennigan averaged 124 yards per game in a 14-game season, in an era where teams averaged 195 yards passing per game. To adjust for 2021 passing inflation (240 yards per game) and the 16-game schedule, Henniganβs season is the equivalent of a player with 2,454 receiving yards in 2021.
He only played seven seasons, but he was a Pro Bowler every season except his first and last; and an All-Pro three seasons.
>Despite finishing with a 12β4 record and a first-round bye the previous season, team owner Bud Adams made good on a threat to break up the team if they did not win the Super Bowl. The two biggest losses the Oilers suffered were the trading of Warren Moon, the teamβs longtime starting quarterback, to the Minnesota Vikings and the departure of defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan, who was hired to coach the Arizona Cardinals.
>With Moon being replaced by career backup Cody Carlson and the defense left without its leader, the 1994 Oilers went into a tailspin despite returning several of their explosive offensive players such as Ernest Givins and Haywood Jeffires.
>The team started out with only one win in their first ten games, which led to head coach Jack Pardee being fired. When the season was over the Oilers stood at 2β14, tying their 1983 squad with the teamβs fewest wins in a sixteen game season and the second-fewest overall, with the 1972, 1973, 1982 squads only winning once each season.
>The ten-game swing is the worst season-to-season drop in games won in NFL history, which would later be tied by the 2013 Houston Texans. Seven of their fourteen losses came by three points or fewer.
I realize this isnβt Kool-Aid but thought it was an interesting history lesson linking two separate Houston teams.
Couple of things to note about the 2013 Houston Texans season.
Five of their losses came by three points or fewer (instead of seven).
Kubiak was fired after 13 games instead of 10 (for Pardee).
The last game the 2013 Texans lost to tie the Oilersβ record came against the Tennessee Titans, formerly known as the Oilers.
In 1991 the Bengals went to the playoffs (1990 season). They stomped the Houston Oilers (Titans), then played the fateful "Bo Jackson Curse" game the following week, and lost. The Bengals have lost every single playoff game appearance ever since (that will end this Saturday).
*I know it's not 100% guaranteed that the Bengals will play the Oilers the following week, but there is a 90% chance. Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals all have to win.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any websites or sellers that sell old or new Houston Oilers hats and ship to Canada? My Dad was a big Oilers fan growing up, so I've started a little collection but it's hard finding Oilers merchandise in Canada. Thanks!

Just thought that fact was crazy.
