The quake last night got me reminiscing about earthquakes. During the Loma Prieta quake, I was about 7 years old, living in Oakland at the time and playing kickball in the driveway. I remember the ground moving like crazy, and I then ran to our apartment where I stood in the doorway with my mom and her friend. I could hear my best friend next door screaming, she had just moved here from Alaska with her mom. My dad was on the sofa and didn't even look up from his newspaper. Our TV and china cabinet fell over. We spent the next day driving around looking at all the fallen brick chimneys. Crazy to think that was 30 years ago, but I remember it like it happened yesterday.
Today is the 30 year Anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake
To some it was the "Big San Francisco" Earthquake
Though it actually started in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The big double decker freeway damage was in Oakland.
Surprisingly the after affect made San Francisco better by removing freeways for better visual .
