A list of puns related to "Zaum"
Iβve read that they recast the VA for Klassje because they didnβt wanna go through the Screen Actors Guild. If so, this is a little icky and off brand for ZAUM. Does anyone have more info about this?
I havenβt heard the new performance, but I was a fan of the old performance
Itβs kinda strange that I havenβt seen this mentioned anywhere on this subreddit, but I guess itβs more of a linguistic experiment than a conlang, but if it were considered a conlang it would be one of the oldest.
I recently fell down a rabbit hole after hearing about this language. Itβs this weird sound symbolism thing. It has no syntax or grammar, and it uses the shapes and sounds of Cyrillic letters to create ideas rather than verbs, nouns, or really anything.
It was created by Russian futurist Velimir Khlebnikov, whose work with his friend Aleksei Kruchenykh was the only stuff I could find written in this language. Here is βDyr bul shchylβ:
Dyr bul shchyl
ubeshshchur
skum
vy so bu
r l Γ¨z
Itβs completely nonsensical, some crazy stuff if you ask me. It has ties to so many random ideas, but I found so few stuff on it, all I know for certain is that it is meant to be spontaneous and irrational and itβs weird connection to the βdivine language of birdsβ
I felt like this is certainly interesting for creating conlang a in the future. It breaks every notion we had about creating any sort of syntax or grammar system. So what are your thoughts on something like this, I might do something with this in the future, create an English version of it.
Oh, and if you have any other interesting stuff relating to this, please do tell, this is quite fascinating to me.
I swear, a great example is
https://www.xboxachievements.com/game/wasteland-2/achievements
Which gives these beautiful concept art for the game as achievement unlocks which you can use as backgrounds for your dashboard. Compare this with
https://www.xboxachievements.com/game/wasteland-3/achievements/
Which feels boring as it's just still shots of in-game map segments.
A controversial take to be sure, but I've been listening to British sea powers albums lately and I think they deserve just as much credit as zaum for making disco elysium.
What I mean by this is even the "red rock riviera" track that plays when you first leave the whirling in rags is what encapsulates the feelings of disco elysium so completely, echoing trumpets over sad violens, which video essay youtubers use as the "defining moment" of what kind of game you just signed up to play, is a track that came out 5 years before disco elysium but the feeling of the track is tied to the game itself instead of the band, and I think they deserve more credit for that.
It was just something I thought about while listening to them, that the music they produce is given more love from the game its associated with, and not something thats allowed to stand on its own.
Hello wondering if there's been any announcement for Zaum's next project? Or any rumors?
Thank you.
Hi guys,
I work for ZAUM magazine. We are a student-run literary magazine based in Sonoma State University. We publish prose, poetry, art, and photography created by undergraduate and graduate students. Any student, at either SSU or any other university, may submit their work to ZAUM. Each issue publishes over 100 pages a year of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, or visual art, providing students with professional experience in layout, design, and marketing. The magazine is distributed throughout the Bay Area, and also receives some national and international distribution, as many contributors are students in other states and countries. ZAUM has received several national student awards from the Associated Writing Programs: for editorial vision (1996), and for graphic design (1998). Student work from issue # 6 and # 7 were nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize, a national prize open to any writer in the country.
We are currently in the process of creating designing and editing our 24th issue and are looking for student submissions. If you are a student writer and are interested in having your work published in an award-winning magazine and distributed across the bay area, then this is an excellent opportunity!
Submission Guidelines and Deadlines:
We allow 15 pages of prose or 5 pages of poetry to be submitted per student. And yes, you are allowed to decrease the font size and line spacing to fit in more words. We have no limit for the amount of art or photography you can submit. We also have no genre preference, so feel free to submit any type of prose you wish to get out there. Our only rule is that you have to be a college student, graduate or undergraduate, to qualify. We will accept submissions up until the first of November. If you can get your submission in before Tuesday, October first, we will give it priority over all work submitted after.
To submit, please email us at zaummag@gmail.com and be sure to include your name and the university that you attend. Please keep your submissions as an attachment. Not coppy and pasted into the email.
rights: The magazine would get first rights to publish, and after publication, the rights would return to the author.
pay: We do not pay students for their submissions. However, this would be a great opportunity for young writers to build up their portfolios.
If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help. Y
