Yokosuka

Hi allโ€ฆ.so my (31F) bf (28M, E3) unexpectedly got his orders a few days ago while heโ€™s been home with me on holiday leave. We really werenโ€™t expecting them for at least a month, but as we all know, you canโ€™t plan for shit with these things.

But hereโ€™s the real gut-punch: theyโ€™re to Yokosuka, Japan, and heโ€™s due to ship out on January 28th. They only gave him a month. Iโ€™ve heard lots of great things about Yokosuka but this is pretty much worst-case scenario for us, as he didnโ€™t want to get stationed overseas, and logistically it would be impossible for me to join him that soon even if we were already married. The plan was always for me to follow him to his duty station, but this feels so difficult.

Idk, I guess Iโ€™m spiraling a bit and could use some words of encouragement. He and I have been planning on marriage for a while now, and had already been frequently discussing eloping in the next month or so. He even asked my dad for his blessing over Christmas. Even though it wonโ€™t change much in keeping us together at this point, we will probably go to the courthouse and tie the knot before he ships out, which is exciting but also stressful since weโ€™ll have so little time to get the details together.

Does anyone have experience trying to follow their partner overseas post-orders? Or having a super-quick elopement? Or just general advice for when you feel like the situation is on top of you? My brain is a mess, and though I know he and I will be ok in the long run, right now I just feel so worried and sad.
