A list of puns related to "Walloon Region"
Bonjour!
For the unaware, Walloon is an endangered language spoken in Wallonia. It once was the majority language of Wallonia (excluding Western Hainaut), before being replaced by French in 19th century. More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walloon_language
My question is: are Walloons sad their language was replaced by French? Are there any attempts to revive it?
Best regards - a Flemish neighbour.
I hope this is apporiate to post here. If not I'm sorry and will remove it
Now to the point! I'm interested in learning about other countries and have a hobby where I draw maps describing how s country functions. Ex.) States with the USA, provinces with Canada, states with Mexico ect
But when I came to Belgium I found it somewhat confusing.
I have read a bit about it and from understanding there's multiple governments, one for each language community (German French and Dutch) and one for each of the 3 regions (Brussels Flanders and Walloon). Then add the federal government coming up with 6 because of exception being the Dutch community and Flanders are merged. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
But the complexities were kinda lost on me
I suppose I'm asking for a Belgian native to better explain this to me in DMs. Anybody is fine and I'm very thankful for your time in reading this even if you don't help
As a retro game collector (SEGA)i recently had an intresting conversation when i travelled to Walloon to a fellow SEGA collector for a American Sega Genesis. He has a theory that SEGA had more influence than nintendo in walloon/france. And nintendo in flanders/NL)And i always also suspected this from visiting game fairs/shops in belgium and NL. So to be curious, i was wondering what your first brand was? I splitted nintendo in 2 categories to compare it with the era of Sega because SEGA bit the dust after the dreamcast. Feel free to comment your experiences and also post your region! (Flanders, brussels, walloon or East cantons) (Only 6 poll options so saddly i cant split PC, Atari and such)
I feel like most members in this sub are Flemish but I could be wrong. I would like to see how every part of Belgium is represented.
Edit: DidnΒ΄t mean to exclude the German-speaking part of Belgium, I thought it's technically a part of Wallonia so that's why I didn't include it.
For my next project, I'm considering building a set of sparring safe Walloon swords, inspired by the sword of the Mayor of Leiden at the time that the city was under siege by the Spanish in 1574: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/nl/collectie/NG-NM-542
I was wondering what a fitting source would be for the use of this type of sword for this period and region. As far as I know, there are no Dutch sources of the period, besides maybe some military drilling manuals. Henri de Sainct Didier comes to mind, as well as Meyer's Rappier work. Would these be appropriate? Or does anyone know of anything that's a closer fit?
Regions as in Flanders, Brussels, Wallonia
Hi,
I don't follow the news, and I have always had the impression living here wasn't too bad, all things considered, historically and globally, but I do see many criticisms and accusations on this subreddit, on Facebook, etc...
So I was wondering what you guys and gals consider to be the worst things about living in Belgium: how it is governed, how justice works, how the political process works, instances of corruption, etc...
Tyvm!
Belgium is interesting to me when it comes to it being essentially split in half in terms of language, with one half of the country being primarily Dutch speaking, and the other being primarily French speaking(i'm aware that both sides have other languages spoken as well, like Flemish, Walloon and German.) Now as far as i know, English is commonly known in Belgium, so i assume that would eliminate the trouble of communicating with each other, but i do wonder if tension still exists?
Comments and suggestions on the general plan "Ost" of the ReichsfΓΌhrer of the SS troops
In November 1941 it became known that the Reich Main Security Office is working on a general plan "Ost". The officer in charge of the Reich General Directorate of Security, Standartenfuehrer Elich, already told me at that time the expected figure of 31 million people of non-German origin to be resettled. This case is in charge of the general directorate of imperial security, which now occupies a prominent place among the bodies subordinate to the ReichsfΓΌhrer of the SS troops. At the same time, the general directorate of imperial security, in the opinion of all the leaderships subordinate to the ReichsfΓΌhrer of the SS troops, will also perform the functions of imperial commissariat for the strengthening of the German race.
General comments on the "Ost" master plan
For its ultimate goal, namely the planned Germanization of the territories in question in the East, the plan must be approved. However, the enormous difficulties that will undoubtedly arise in the implementation of this plan, and which may even raise doubts about its feasibility, seem relatively small in terms of the plan. First of all, it is striking that Ingermanland [1] Dnieper, Tavria and Crimea [2] as colonization territories were left out of the plan. Obviously, this is due to the fact that in the future, the plan will also include new colonization projects, which will be discussed at the end.
At present, it is already possible, more or less definitively, to establish as an eastern boundary of colonization (in its northern and middle parts) a line that runs from Lake Ladoga to Valdai Upland and beyond to Bryansk. Whether these changes will be made to the plan by the command of the SS troops, I do not presume to judge.
In any case, it should be foreseen that the number of people who will be resettled under the plan should be further increased.
It follows from the plan that this is not a program that is subject to immediate implementation, but, on the contrary, the settlement of this space by the Germans should take place within about 30 years after the end of the war. Under the plan, 14 million local residents should remain in this area. However, it is more than doubtful whether they will lose their national characteristics and whether they will suffer Germanization in the planned 30 years, since, again, according to the plan in question, the number of German immigrants is very small. Obviously, the
... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
Hey everyone,
im looking for books about the history of belgium as a nation and how the different language regions shaped the country. what im really interested in is the economic divide of the two big regions and what caused that along with an answer to why the hell brussels is a french exclave inside flanders.
Thanks!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
