A list of puns related to "Wake On Lan"
Hello there.
I was wondering on how to setup a wake on lan switch so it uses the state of for example a ping binary sensor as it's state.
Update:
Looks like WOL switch already has this built in. Well...
So I can successfully connect to Steam Link on my Galaxy Note 10+ via Wifi. I can also connect via cellular network when the PC is powered on. I can get the Note 10+ to wake up the PC over Wifi. (Good)
I cant get the Note 10+ to wake up the PC over the cellular network. (Bad)
I've tried the following:
BIOS enabled wake on lan Ethernet adapter to allow magic packets and wake on lan Sleep settings to allow PCI-E powered during sleep. Disable fast start up on windows 10.
So I know the wake on lan works over Wifi which is great. But how do I wake on lan over the cellular network?
I tried port forwarding using my IP4 IP address, which has been locked to a static IP. I have the proper MAC address and I'm using port 7.
I also went into the Firewall settings and allowed an outbound exception for TCP/UDP on port 7. I'm at a loss and I've tried for 3 days now. Any ideas?
This is my first venture in WOL and I have the following issue; My server motherboard (Gigabyte MD30-RS0) doesn't seem to have any option to enable WOL in BIOS, but when I launch java-based Virtual KVM viewer, I can turn the server off and on, which leads me to believe there is some kind of functionality that could allow me to wake it up on LAN.
I tried using wakeonlan and etherwake with mac addresses of all the NICs on the board, which there are three, two "normal" (both have Wake-on: g) and one for IPMI, but the server just won't turn on.
Is there a way I could get this to work?
I've been looking into using wake-on-lan in order to remotely wake up my computer. The issue I'm running into is that my network uses Netgear routers, which don't allow you to port forward to the broadcast address. The computer is set for a static IP address, but since powered-off computers don't have an active IP, is it possible to use the MAC address of the NIC instead?
Hello!
I have an old 2012 Mac Mini running Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6 and a Synology NAS DS1019+ both hardwired to my router.
I have WOL enable on both of them, but for some reason only the Synology will boot when I send the magic packet from my WOL app on my iPhone.
Why does one work but the other does not? Iβve never been able to get WOL to work on any Mac. Any one know the magic trick to this?
Tech: Port 9 is forwarded to my Mac (yet WOL still works on my NAS). All MAC addresses are correct, Iβve checked them like an insane maniac 100 times. The Mac is set to βwake on network access.β
Even if the Mac mini is asleep, WOL magic packet is ignored.
What gives?
I had an idea and went to look for it. I am not sure what to search for if it exists. So I will try to explain it down below.
This is an example of a computer case power cord.

You see the pins above, keep them in mind. From my understanding all the button does, is when you press it it allows the current to flow, and when not pressed, the button is up and not allowing the circuit to complete.
Could one either

One option allows us to use a card as a pass through or complete it early with two pins into the card and two pins out. While the other is essentially the same, but instead of a card we would use a pre existing button and slightly modify it.
If either is not possible is there a way to connect the power cord pictured above into something like a Y splitter. Much like this but for the computer power not audio.

The single end would plug into the pc motherboard. While one of the other two would connect to the regular button, and we would need a way to have a second device plugged into the other one. That way instead of a pass through, it would be able to accept inputs from either button separately. And we could still have the zigbee zwave button inside the case on its own circuit, seperate from the main button but still connected to the motherboard. That way if either are pressed, or if we send a signal for it to turn on, then it will go through.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions if y
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm trying to boot my PC from a remote location so I can run software like Parsec without leaving my PC on all night. I've managed to turn it on using my local IP, but it doesn't boot using my public IP. I have forwarded the port (both TCP and UDP). I've tried disabling the firewall, but it didn't work. I'm using Depicus (free, for Android).
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
My Setup:
USG, cloud key, AP AC Lite, Ubiquiti 8p UniFi US-8
I'm wondering - if it's possible to do wake on lan through cloud key somehow? Since i can access my network through application (via cloud access) i would like to do wake on lan from cloud key.
Cheers.
I set my home's PC in order to turn on it remotely.
I set port mapping in my access point; by wolsniffer tool I could verify my PC receives correctly the WoL packets both from LAN (by private IP) and from Internet (by public IP).
In this way I can turn on my PC from LAN, but I CANNOT turn on it by internet. I don't know why since the PC receives correctly WoL packets from internet. Any suggestion?
Iβm trying to understand how this Wake-On-LAN works. As far as I know, in order to wake my computer, it needs to be connected to a network and properly setup, i.e., BIOS WOL and Device Manager enabled.
After that, any computer connected to the LAN is able to wake my computer through a Magic Packet.
What Iβm trying to figure out is: can I set-up my router to be that other computer waking mine? Can I activate it remotely from another network (not on LAN)?
I am running a Hass.io vm using the vmdk installation method. I'm trying to get wake on lan to work across subnets (from server to desktop) and I can't get it right. I'm using pfsense as my firewall and gave no blocking rules between the vlans.
Hass is on the 10.0.100.0/24 subnet while my PC is on the 10.0.90.0/24 subnet.
I am on home assistant 0.104.3

DESCRIPTION
If you have any device at home that is compatible with the Wake On LAN (WOL) protocol, this project will help you allowing them to be turned on or turned off from your phone.
This project includes an Initial Setup task that needs to be executed when it is imported from TaskerNet, or when the dev considers it is needed even not imported from TaskerNet.

Notes:
- Due to Android 9+ permission changes, you will need to enable GPS location manually (at least battery saving mode). Or create a time context profile to allow it to be toggled in the background.
- AutoRemote, AutoTools and EventGhost are needed for the project to work.
- All the devices will need to have a static IP address in the network. (Configure it from your router)

i want to be able to wake my devices remotely, either over WAN or LAN, but trying to configure the network box for this is a pain. I tried forwarding UDP ports 7-9 on the network box to the subnet broadcast address @ 192.168.1.0/24. that, however, did not work. I tried forwarding those ports to a single IP on my network and it still failed. I can wake on lan successfully at home using both the NIC IP address and the broadcast address but I cannot do so over the internet. is there an easy way to get past the limitation of being unable to set a static ARP table on the network box? or am I just making things hard here?
So my ifconfig currently looks like this, with enp9s0 being my main network interface. I tried doing sudo ethtool enp9s0
, which gave me this. From what I've read, Supports Wake-on: d
and Wake-on: d
need to be set to g
, so I tried doing ethtool -s enp9s0 wol g
, which gives me:
weetile@weetile-DESKTOP:~$ ethtool -s enp9s0 wol g
Cannot get current wake-on-lan settings: Operation not permitted
not setting wol
Does anyone know how to get this working? I know my NIC definitely supports it as it works completely fine out of the box under Windows 10. Thanks!
So, I was bored, and I thought why not; it's easy.... and I ended up with this mess.
https://github.com/mroduner/niftyshell/blob/master/wake%20on%20lan/listen
It's a bit rough, and requires php7 and php-libvirt-php (if you're using Ubuntu); hope someone else finds it useful.
My steam link can wake my PC and the Steam Link App can wake it but aother PC running Steam can't wake it?
As it stands now, I pull out my phone and run the Steam Link App just to wake the host and then I close it and switch to my other PC to start playing.
Any way to let Steam on PC wake the host?
Hey I'm an IT consultant and my company manages 2500 computers (mostly Dell) we use connectwise to remote into our workstations. Which is why I want to configure wake on lan, however there are a few settings that I'm not sure how to script so that I can successfully deploy them out to all workstations. For Deployment we use PDQ Deploy.
I'm able to use dell command configure to deploy out bios settings to turn on the necessary settings.
The settings I need help setting is on the NIC (they're pretty much all Intel NIC)
I need to disable EEE, and make sure 'wake on magic packet' is enabled
I also need to adjust in the power settings 'turn on fast startup'
If anyone has any suggestions on what to try I would appreciate that.
Thank you
Hello! I'm trying to make an script to activate wake on lan at stratup. The problem seems to be that in order to activate wake on lan i have to do it with sudo privileges and i don't know how to do that on a script. Manually im putting:
sudo ethtool -s enp2s0 wol g (this works)
ethtool -s enp2s0 wol g (this doesnΒ΄t works)
Cannot get current wake-on-lan settings: Operation not permitted
not setting wol
This command works perfectly but not in a script. I tried a couple of ways first this:
sudo bash -c "cat > /etc/init/wakeonlan.conf" <<'EOF'
start on started network
script
interface=enp2s0
logger -t 'wakeonlan init script' enabling wake on lan for $interface
ethtool -s $interface wol g
end script
EOF
sudo chmod +x /etc/init/wakeonlan.conf
sudo service wakeonlan start
But this is telling me : Failed to start wakeonlan.service: Unit wakeonlan.service not found.
Additionally i tried this:
#!/bin/bash
ethtool -s eth0 wol g
# cp script /etc/init.d
# update-rc.d script defaults
But its not working either.
Can anyone tell me how to do it properly? Thanks in advance!
I have two machines that I don't need up all the time, but also want to remote in when I need to. Unfortunately, running an Ethernet cable just isn't practical for their locations. I have an H370 motherboard with an Intel 9260 WLAN card on Windows 10, so new hardware. I've checked the settings for the WLAN card in Device Manager and checked to make sure PCIE devices can wake the computer in the BIOS but still cannot get it to wake. Is there some kind of trick I'm missing?
Hallo,
Was fΓΌr MΓΆglichen habe ich ? Was ich so im Netz lese gebe es die MΓΆglichkeit das sich der Pc einschaltet wenn er Strom bekommt. Gibt Produkte dafΓΌr unter 20 Euro bei Amazon.
Anyone successfully setup wake on lan with Google WiFi? I have port 9 unblocked.
Hey there,
Random developer here who recently joined the Echo family. Got kinda frustrated when I saw that Alexa had no built in feature for using WoL. I made a skill that's able to turn on your devices via WoL, without the need of IFTTT and other devices in the middle. It's not polished, it's just something I quickly made. Planning to make it better and eventually expand to other type of skills as the time goes.
You will need to make a spreadsheet on Google Sheets where you list your devices. Then you can simply say "Alexa, turn on PC" for example. Instructions are written on the skill page.
The skill is in beta testing phase right now so you will need to be added as a tester. You can apply at https://goo.gl/forms/WPVFFKtzFKgZrFyJ3 and I'll send you an invite as soon as possible
I've also made a Discord server(https://discord.gg/5vnfdcr) in case you wanna join to report problems/talk/whatever. You can also contact me there in case I didn't notice your beta test application.
Hi All, i am currently trying to set up Wake On Lan on our network and hitting some snags. Please be advise i consider myself a beginner to sort of intermediate in networking.
currently testing this in my test env.
Have 3 vlan(): Vlan 1: Workstations Vlan 2: guest Vlan 3: Server
Consist of Core and Edge switch. connectivity between the switch and different vlan is working. After reading couple of forum i enabled below commands on the core switch only. No ACL in place for the time being
Core switch ip directed-broadcast(in VLan 1 and 3) aaa port-access controlled direction in(as i have 802.1x) spanning-tree admin-edge-port.
Edge Switch: aaa port-access controlled direction in
i am using WakeOnLan tool and it detects that the machine is on or off but when its on sleep ican see the port goes offline and sending magic packet doesnt do much.
i wish to understand what else is required and how i can troubleshoot. show log doesnt tell me much
I have this profile setup to trigger my computer wake on LAN. Thing is it doesn't work. I look into the app and all the conditions are green. It just doesn't trigger. I can trigger it manually by tapping the play button, but it won't do it automatically. (By the way, the location isn't blank in the real profile. Just didn't want to share my location for obvious reasons.)
ok so im already have b450m pro with r5 3600 now i having problem its seems wake on lan doesnt work what ever i dos etting power management in lan adapter , disabling fast boot etc even resetting cmos
the problem is lay at bios it doesnt have wake on onboard lan menu only have pcie device one so whatever i did the on board lan doesnt lights up after im shutdown the pc, i mean multimilion brand like msi cant even add wake on lan feature just like they said right here
index.php?topic=291522.0 at msi forum
so what should i do than buying another pcie device for only turn on wake on lan ?
I'm trying to setup a Wake on lan switch for my Macbook. It's working in that sense that it wakes up the computer but after about 1-2 minutes it goes back to sleep mode. Why is that? Any idea how to solve that?
This is my config, but of course with a correct mac_address.
Host is the static ip of the Macbook.
# Wake on lan
- platform: wake_on_lan
host: "192.168.0.13"
mac_address: "11-22-33-44-55-66"
broadcast_address: "255.255.255.255"
Edit: I found the solution! I had to change the sleep settings. First you have to disable SIP in recovery mode. Then
edit the following file: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist Find the KernelFlags key and change it from: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> to: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>darkwake=0</string> Reboot your Mac.
No its working perfect :) Running El capitan.
I've got a server on my windows PC that I want to wake up whenever someone from my authorized users tries to access it from plex.tv or any plex client. I also have a raspberry pi available with nginx on it I could use as a way to maybe reverse proxy and pause the request while the PC is waking up? I don't know if it is doable.
Do you guys know of any way to do this?
I've got a powerline network setup in my house however they keep going into sleep mode and I cannot turn it off... Are there any powerlines that support turning off powersaving mode or work well with wake on lan?
Edit: I should mention that I would prefer a passthrough plug and also Ethernet connection
the powerline adapters I currently use are Netgear xav 1601's
When I try to use the WoL feature (right click node -> Wake on LAN), I get an error saying no MAC address is set for the node. How can I set it?
Running latest version of Proxmox.
