A list of puns related to "Virago"
Don't get me wrong I love the v-twin sound it produces. But when people open the throttle it produces a very high pitched sound next to the combustion.
For example at the end if this video: https://youtu.be/uppixNS4tyc
It sounds like an electric drill
Hi my virago recently has a problem in which the bike idles perfectly fine but when I roll the throttle the engine bogs down and dies, is it just a carb problem or could there be something else going on.
(it does it in neutral as well)
But also with the higher seat which all virago cafe racers have. Or would the seating position be too weird?
I guess it wouldn't be a true cafe racer and maybe more a brat bike. But I couldn't find any examples of this online, does anyone have an example?
Hey first year winterizing my bike and I was wondering if itβs absolutely necessary to drain all the gas out of the bike or the method were you fill it all the way up would work with carbureted bikes, and also the bike will be right outside my house under a cover and I work on it a lot so say if I start the bike 1 a week or 2 times could i skip the whole process of worrying about the gas over winter? And I live in Vancouver it gets cold but nothing insanely cold if thatβs some important info.

Google isn't helping me much, but I'm stuck on the following: I quite like the looks of bikes like the 535 virago, honda magna/shadow etc. But these are rather vintage bikes, and come with vintage problems.
Is there something like a modern version of the virago, or a spiritual successor? Surely with the modern vintage bikes there must be something I'm overlooking.
Edit: thanks for all the replies guys! Seems like I've got a couple of nice options to dive in to. For the moment I'll stick to my diversion 900, but I'm getting a pretty good idea of what to save my allowance for :p
Hello all,
As the heading suggests, I am installing an aftermarket exhaust and air filter and will have to rejet my carb. Iβm looking to buy an assortment of jet sizes for my xv250, but Iβm having trouble figuring out exactly what carb I have to get the right jets. I have the service manual and it gives me a lot of good information, but not exactly what Iβm looking for. After some research, I think it may be a Mikuni of some sort? Maybe a vm22? Iβm not sure?
Has anybody here had a chance to do this upgrade? Should I just pull the carb and see if itβs stamped and measure the intake? Thanks in advance for your help!
Wondering about some opinions on this. Looking for a first motorcycle and it was the same for the seller as well and it looks nice and rather cheap, but it's still 30 years old. Good to get or not?
Im in the market for my first motorcycle and i like the price point and as well as the vtwin engine being so cheap to get and sounds great for how small it is. I just want it to cruise around and for commuting in LA. My concern is that it's extremely cheap compared to the honda rebel that starts around 6,000 and doesn't have a engine as powerful or as nice. Is it reliable?
Okay so I got the bike as a graduation present in 2017 but I just got it βrunningβ in March I paid $800 to have it supposedly running just to spit and sputter like crazy once it ran a little, losing power sometimes cutting off, also gas has been draining into the oil since I got it. I changed the front coil pack and it helped a lot and I rode it this morning, and for a minute I thought I was gonna have me first ride without issues, then it started dying on me and cut off three times spitting and sputtering losing power and dying on me now the oil is filled with gas again. Help
Hello, i dont have a lot of mechanical experience (but have doing basic mantaince) and i think the rectifier has gone bad on my virago 535, the main fuse blows as soon as i connect it.
Anyway, the question i have is, with the location of the rectifier (bolted to the engine under the swing arm) it looks like i will have to remove the exhaust in order to replace it. Is there any other way to do it without needing to remover the exhaust? I dont have a bike stand or anything to hold the bike's weight (i strap it upright between two posts when i work on it.)
Any advice appreciated.
Hey guys, i just recently bought an 86 750 and Iβm trying to find out what gear oil and engine oil to put in. Normally it wouldnβt be a problem finding that out but Iβm having a hard time finding out if my bike really is a 750. The reason being is I havenβt seen anywhere that they made a 750 in 86. Hopefully Iβm just having a massive brain fart here and someone can help me out? Any input is appreciated. Thank you!
So my 96 Virago 750 is starting to die at stoplights more frequently than it used to when I picked it up a couple weeks ago. It runs great, has no issue starting at half choke. I normally let it run for a minute or two, kick the choke off and run.
Here are the facts:
The bike occaisonally backfires through the airbox if I blip it too quick when downshifting, but not everytime. It is intermittent. This leads me to believe that I have a slight leak on one or both of my intake manifold boots. I have not yet sprayed some carb cleaner on the boot with the engine running to be sure, but I am fairly confident this is the problem. I think I've started subconsciously blipping it slower to prevent that because it used to happen more frequently when I picked it up.
It had been sitting for years with empty and drained carbs so they weren't gummed up at all. No gunk in the bowl etc. Tank was lined by the previous owner.
The electrical system is known to be charging fine.
Spark plugs are unknown but Im assuming they are okay and its just the boots.
I am considering just giving it a LITTLE bit more fuel to counteract this. I should probably take it in to get the boots changed but I'm a little tight this month. Would adding just a little bit more fuel help my issue in the short term? Like 1/8th turn on the fuel screw?
