A list of puns related to "Velarization"
In the Foreign Service Institute textbook there is a passage (p. 89) that says Β¨Where a syllable is velarized and there is no classical Arabic correspondence (i.e., no Ψ· ΨΆ Ψ΅ ΨΈ), the transcription system will more-or-less approximate the phonetic facts rather than the Arab interpretation.Β¨
Why would a syllable be velarized without having a velarized consonant? I mean, IΒ΄ve noticed that the Ω in Ψ§ΩΩΩ is velarized, and sometimes Ψ± has that far-back sound too, but... Can I predict the circumstances under which non-emphatic consonants will become velarized in arabic?
How can I learn to distinguish them? as far as I know the uvular fricatives are pronounced more back in the mouth while their velar counterparts are pronounced more forward in the mouth.
I'm asking this question because my native language has back fricatives /x Ι£/ their phonetic realization varies between velar [x Ι£] and uvular [Ο Κ] according to speaker and I still can't figure out how I pronounce them.
I hope this sub is right place for this question.
Looking to purchase one Friday. Is it a good car? Should I get something different. Money isnβt really an issue just my fiancΓ© is short and she currently has a brand new 4Runner that she has a hard time getting in and out of. So weβre getting rid of that for something else.
got a crack in my windshield. Had Safelite replace the windshield with an OE windshield. It was installed fine, but the calibration is unsuccessful.
Safelite says I need an OEM windshield. Has anyone had this issue?
Hello! I recently got a 2021 Range Rover velar and it will not auto connect to my iPhone. It is set as the primary device and set to auto join. Every time I start my car I try to connect on the velar screen and it doesnβt work. The only way I can re connect is to go in my iPhone settings and click Range Rover. Iβve tried deleting device and adding again.
Any advice ??
Iβve been working on my Spanish double-rβs, and I noticed that something was off. Whenever I raised the tip of my tongue to trill, the back of the tongue always came up as well. Plus, the blade of the tongue always moved up to an interdental position, so I figured something was wrong.
I noticed that the back of the tongue was in a dorsal-velar consonant position (/Γ§/ or /k/-ish), and was extremely tight. There is still a vibration at the front of the tongue, though, resulting in a jackhammer sound that made my vision shake.
I figured that not enough air would be able to squeeze past to make a trill, especially when the tongue is this tensed-up. Nobody I know has been able to recreate this, so Iβm starting to doubt if this is really whatβs happening. Anybody have any clues on what might be happening?
i've noticed that a lot of phonological inventories have only labialised velars, usually stops and fricatives. is there any reason why these are more common than labialised consonants at other places of articulation?
edit: i should add that i'm talking about phonemes
A friend recently told me that velar trills were impossible. I understood his rationale but it seemed a bit off to meβ isnβt snoring just a velar trill, since the back of the tongue is vibrating with the soft palate? Iβve heard plenty of people do a pretty good job at faking snoring sounds, so whoβs right?
I finally got the call that I can order my 2022 Velar R-Dynamic HSE that would be ready April 2022. Iβm being told by the dealer that the interactive driver display, park assist, 3D camera, and heads up display are unavailable on any velar model due to the chip shortage. Should I hold off on purchasing one?
I havenβt moved or driven my car since August of this past year and I just had my friend tried to jumpstart it twice and the battery wonβt jump start. I live in Brickell Miami and my association does not allow tow trucks to enter my private condo garage. Anybody have any possible solution because I can still try to jumpstart it but may be a bigger vehicle. I have to return back to Miami from Colombia to troubleshoot it. Anyone with any battery knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
I would imagine that labiovelars typically come from kΚ· < kw, where the /w/ came from some sort of vowel breaking, but surely this would also affect the coronals, creating (say) tΚ· as well. Are labialised coronals simply less likely to formed than labialised velars for some reason? Or are they less stable and more likely to merge into another set? Or something else?
Bilabial and alveolar nasals are common in the beginning of a word, but velar nasals in the beginning are rare in most languages, even though they may be common elsewhere? Why could this be? There isn't any difficulty pronouncing it, so why is it uncommon?
So my RR has air suspension, Iβm assuming most modern ones do right?
Anyway whenever I go over a speed bump, even at low speeds, it sounds really loud and feels like I just hit a curb or something lol. Iβve never had an air suspension vehicle before and part of me thinks it might be that.
Is this normal?
Is it just me or does the 2018 Velar (top trim level) have⦠not a lot of bass?
I play music via Bluetooth on my phone and I swear, I had a 15 year old car before this with better subwoofers. I have the top trim model with speakers everywhere, I really expected an awesome sound system but the subwoofer barely hits at all.
Is this an issue with the Bluetooth or something? I donβt get it.
My main concern with buying a used rr is reliability. The car Iβm looking at was a leased vehicle, clean car fax, but idles very loudly, so Iβm not sure if thereβs an underlying problem the dealer didnβt disclose.
Being skeptical about buying a rr used, I thought maybe I should instead lease a new one or lease to buy. Any input would be appreciated. Tia!
Iβve been working on the voiceless velar fricative recently, and I thought that it sounded a bit excessively raspy and guttural. I brushed it off until I realized that I was actually doing a uvular trill. Turns out that makes it sound way harsher than itβs supposed to. I can make the sound properly when isolated (like when hissing like a cat), but whenever I plop it next to a vowel, my uvula gets in the way again. Any tips on how to make it sit still?
If you were considering one with 40,000 miles, and you wanted to keep it for maybe 20-30k miles before reselling it, what is the reliability like?
Does it take a special tool to open the 2 air filter boxes? It doesn't look like it takes the normal phillips screwdriver
