A list of puns related to "Undertow"
10,000 Days was my fav Tool record, but Iβm liking more Undertow for some reason, maybe the dark themes and lyrics, maybe Maynardβs voice, idk, maybe that more alt sound, who knows?
The title track is great. I love the piercing sirens that get it started. Maynardβs first line is (oddly prescient) but still hits me. I hope they open the tour with this track and opening line, βimmunity, long overdueβ
I really enjoy the noise tracks on FI. Speakers and headphones really make a difference here. If you have basic speakersβ¦you wonβt get it.
I see hate for CCT and they are mad. Like insane mad. Do those people not enjoy any sounds but βtoolβ sound? I donβt get it.
And while βcookies and creamβ might turn off some listeners as a lyric if you have ever thought Maynard to not use jokes or humor you have missed the whole journey. And that 7empest track is enjoyable until the end.
I know the music has changed since undertow. Thatβs the point. And so should you. I love the maturity of Tool. And seeing them β46 and 2β and βspiral outβ and βreach out beyondβ their undertow years and not being stuck in emo sadness. And Iβm glad tool had helped me get out of my own emo sadness and challenges as an 8 yo as well.
I took the time to listen yo Undertow thinking it would be a decent album, boy I was wrong.
I know a lot of Tool fans havent went past the 3 first tracks but really, this album is legendary, It is a seemless experience and a masterpiece from start to finish.
The raw feeling is what hooks me the most (favorite album being Γnema).

... keep reading on reddit β‘I've been a fan for since around 10,000 days came out and loved Aenima, Lateralus and FI as soon as I heard them. I've tried giving undertow a listen a handful of times and for whatever reason it never clicked with me. It always sounded so dated to me in comparison to the later albums.
Until today! The album is an essential part of their discography and I'm hearing it now with fresh ears. I'm pumped! I have an entire album of music I've spent next to no time digesting. I've got one more of their albums to add to my "play on repeat" list.
I think maybe FI helped open me up to some of the sounds off Undertow? I don't know.
Just wanted to share with y'all.
Hey yall! Id like to know everyones favorite way to make their undertows! Flavors, milk choices, etc.
This will be a collective effort to create a best of album⦠with a twist! The twist is that each album will be matched up against each other by track number. So only Track 1 from one album will be included and so on.
There will be 3 different Phases in this process. The first 2 Phases will be about making sure each album has the same amount of tracks so that voting in Phase 3 will work out properly. Each album will have to be brought down to 7 tracks (including 1 B-Side/Outtake/Extra Track) before Phase 3 begins.
Rules:
Phase 1: Destruction- This Phase is all about REMOVING tracks from albums.
We will remove tracks until only 6 remain on each album. Leaving room for 1 B-Side/Outtake/Extra Track to be added later. But seeing as the only album to have extras is Γnima this will only apply to that album.
If an album has 7 or less tracks already it will not be involved until later Phases.
Openers and closers of albums will not be included in voting until Phase 3. This is to make sure they are in their proper places. This rule changes if the final track is more of a segue than a song though.
Phase 2: Construction- This Phase is all about ADDING in an extra track(s) to bring the amount of tracks from 6 (or lower) up to 7.
Albums with less than 6 tracks originally will have more than 1 added in this Phase to allow them to have the same amount of tracks as the others.
The most voted for B-Side/Outtake/Extra Track will be added in the place of the most voted for song that was removed in Phase 1.
Remember in this Phase we are voting on what to ADD to the album not to remove.
Phase 3: Contention- This Phase is where each album is put up against all other albums.
The best of album will have 2 discs each with 7 tracks so choose your votes carefully because only 14 songs are making the cut.
Every track on the best of album must end up with the same track number it had at the end of Phase 2 voting. So on round 1 of Phase 3 all openers will be put up against each other to be the opener of the best of album.
Remember in this Phase you are voting for which songs you want ADDED to the album.

Sites like Planet Mellotron are adamant that Many Too Many is the last Mellotron track on ATTWT. But it sounds like there is Mellotron strings in the pre chorus of Undertow, like right here.

And here as well in the chorus. What do you folks think?
To me, it seems like a continuous story of acknowledging one's dark side in Undertow, coming in terms with it in AEnima, and transforming/liberation in Lateralus. Both at lyrics and musical progression levels.
In this term 10,000 days was hard to accept at first because thematically it went to a new direction.
I know it is not official and not supported by anything I read.
Also, obligatory r/iamfortyandthisisdeep reference.
A beautiful, heavy song about self-discovery and introspection. Getting rid of the Ego so you can truly live your life. Digging, destroying your Self, and being reborn.

Last drink 32ish hours ago. I've been able to maintain daily imbibement for over a year since my hospitalization, hidden so no one knows. Haven't even stopped for a week. Bow, cold turkey on Friday out of absolute desperation. There is no time for a relapse this time. There is no excuse for weakness. I might need daily reminders why I am giving it up and I worry that the reminerd I find won't be strong enough. My baby daughter, due tomorrow, deserves a clean, present father and I must be that for her. There is no other way.
Wish me well. I think I will Be here often.
It would be really helpful if corporate would add a button on POS for this. And maybe a standardized recipe? You know customers will modify it anyway, but at least a baseline recipe will give us something to start with. Been getting a lot of orders for these, yet no one is trained on them.
When i first found out about Tool many years ago when you had to go to the store to buy their music I started with undertow and it has always been my least favorite album by them . I liked some of the songs on it but it never clicked with me as much as their other albums . I think it may be because it is their least progressive album.
Totally new to the TMB world and a few reviews have mentioned this, rather than core. Thoughts on just this for a solo player until I can convince my partner to jump in? Only want to play 1-2 player. Anything I would miss out on, from the standard core??

I distinctly remember the copy of Undertow I had as a kid having a fun little quirk to it. There were 59 one second blank tracks between Flood and Disgustipated, bringing the grand total to 69 tracks. Was this specific to a certain release and did anyone else have a similar experience?
