A list of puns related to "Trumbo"
Sometimes, I like to attribute 'major' events to a teams poor performance or bad luck. Quick example would be that the Phillies have 'The Harper Curse' (Nats one a WS title their first season without him, I predict the Phillies won't win one while he is on their current roster)
I've always said to myself that Trumbo's reaction to getting pied in September 2017 was 'The Pie Curse'
For those that don't know, September 3rd, 2017, Trumbo hit a walk off single for us to beat the blue jays. Subsequently he was pied by beloved CF Adam Jones, as was a tradition of his to pie a player that went above and beyond during a game. Almost immediately after that game, Jones tweeted that there would be no more pies to the face. From that day, to the end of the season, the Orioles went 33-60 on the season (I think, I did the math pretty fast) The Orioles record since then is 178 - 368.
For fun: What do you think the Orioles need to do to break 'The Pie Curse'?
I am emotionally wrecked but it is just one of those days that I want to cry. Any other book suggestions that will absolutely fuck me up? Sometimes I just need a good cry or something to really shake me. Huge horror fan as well.
Youβre the only one that posts here, loser. Now ban me. Youβll do it because I told you to.
I saw Trumbo a while ago on Netflix, and since this is kind of a movie sub, thought I'd ask what ya'll thought of it! Idk how to find Adam's scoring of the film, but personally I liked a good chunk of it!
When I drink I like to watch movies. Tonightβs path is Trumbo. Louie CK playing a communist is one hell of a hilarious hindsight. Also. We really need to prioritize our knowledge of history. It really does repeat itself.
So in the 2016-2017 offseason, the Rockies looked to fill their first base hole. So to fix that, GM Jeff Bridich very confusingly went with a CF to convert to 1B in Ian Desmond. Predictably, that signing did not age well. So in this hypothetical, I ask? What if the Rockies signed an actual 1B? What if they signed somebody that made sense at the time, and they were connected to, in Mark Trumbo?
Now, first, you may askβ¦ Why Mark Trumbo? Honestly, because of the similar salary as well as not being too crazy of an idea. Like of course if the Rockies could go back in time to 2009, it would be smart to draft Mike Trout. Though at the Rockies position, that would make no sense picking him at #11, at the time. At the same time, itβs "crazy" (not really but shh) to think that the Rockies would spend 6 million dollars more on someone like Encarnacion. So to be reasonable, weβre doing Mark Trumbo instead of Ian Desmond.
2017:
So letβs first establish how these two players differed. Ian Desmond missed a huge chunk of 2017, and in the 95 games, he played he put up an OPS+ of 72, yikes. If we take this in the most literal sense, Mark Trumboβs OPS+ of 84 that year in 146 G could maybe a couple more winsβ¦ Though Mark Reynolds did better. Though I would argue that unlike Ian Desmond, Mark Trumbo would have done even better due to his fit at Coors Field. As a hitter, Mark Trumbo is somebody who can barrel up the ball for high exit velocities, with an above-average flyball rate. Trumbo would be much more likely to hit the ball into the gaps or into the seats compared to Ian Desmond. Iβm not expecting 2016 Mark Trumbo, but Trumbo could very well match Mark Reynoldsβ production.
Defensively, itβs interesting. Mark Trumbo as a defensive player at 1B is an average fielder. Yeah, thatβs better than Ian Desmond but not much of an improvement from Mark Reynolds. Notably, though, Desmond played mostly LF in 2017, so having Trumbo at 1B and LF being Gerardo Parra may actually result in possibly more losses. Parraβs a good defender, but he left a lot to be desired offensively. Iβd say balancing out Trumbo and Parra would probably result in the same 2017, 87-95, Rockies lose the Wild Card.
2018:
Now, as much as Mark Trumboβs production could change with his better fit for Coors Field, his chance of not getting injured doesnβt get better. In fact, itβs probably more likely heβll get injured not being a DH. So with that said, Trumbo is only able to play 90 games with the
