Maybe it's just me, but I always find OS upgrades and firmware updates to be terrifying. I've had way too many go wrong in my life, and wind up with a broken (or worse, bricked) OS.

For the F31 -> F32 upgrade, I noticed they've replaced the running terminal output with a flat upgrade screen and a progress bar, which looks far more Windows-like.

I can understand the mainstream appeal, but for me personally, I liked seeing what it was doing at any given moment so that I could at least confirm that it was doing something. The progress bar was a little disconcerting while the upgrade ran because it would periodically hit dead points there progress would simply stall for 10-15 minutes, and I'd get terrified that the upgrade process was hung.

I've been wondering this for a while, sometimes when I am reading.

I will see the nerve roots of the radial nerve listed as C5-T1 but I have also been taught it is C6-C8.

The median nerve roots I have seen listed as C5-T1 but also C5-C8.

What exactly is the correct nerve roots for these terminal branches? It seems like every brachial plexus I see is a little different regarding these two nerves.

I'm currently a freshman taking Physiological Psych, and I'm browsing over the study guide for our first exam. One question on the study guide asks "What function does a nerve terminal perform?"

Is there a difference between a nerve terminal and an axon terminal, or is nerve terminal a less "official name" for an axon terminal?

Two locations because I live and work in TN. Drug test collection site is in MS. Not sure if that matters but I want to disclose anyway. Here's the story:

I have ADHD and have a prescription for medicine that will show up on a drug test. Never had any issues before. I would usually go give the sample and tell the collector about my medication and even show them the bottle. They always tell me the sample is analyzed at the lab and I would be called for any issues. I would always get a call by the lab informing me of the positive result and I would give them my prescription information. Upon verifying my prescription, the lab would send back a negative result. No issues whatsoever.

I was offered a new job and as a result, put in 2 weeks notice with my old job. During the interview, I was told I would have to take a drug test and asked if there would be any issues. I told my manager there would be no issues.

On my first day, my manager told me to leave an hour early to take my drug test (for which I would be paid). I went to the collection site, provided my sample, and informed and showed my bottle to the the collector. As usual they told the lab will contact me for that info. After providing my sample to the collector, they did a preliminary test with those strip t

I (28M) am a branch manager for a retail store. I’ve been out of work since Monday because of Covid symptoms and my test result came back last night positive. Texted my boss last night pics of the test result and the quarantine order. He told me not to worry about anything (I have no staff because the company won’t pay a living wage to workers so we haven’t been able to attract any skilled labor for months).

Today I get a text: “I’ll be up in (redacted) and was wondering if you could meet me at the office at (redacted time).” I kind of just sat there dumbfounded for a few minutes. Then I got a LinkedIn notification that someone viewed my profile and it was one of the heads of HR. In my mind this could only mean they are looking to fire me.

I’ve worked 6 days a week for this company, sometimes by myself, sacrificed my PTO time, and am severely underpaid for my position. 3 months ago I asked for a raise because I felt I was underpaid for the level of work I had to be doing with the office open 6 days a week due to the staffing shortage. The head of HR then threatened me that if I didn’t go along with the new way things were being done at the company, I’d be lumped in the boat with the older managers they were trying to force out.

This has to be the dumbest way to get rid of someone right? They can’t just fire me for getting Covid even in an “at-will” state?

Update: Since this seems to be gaining traction I wanted to mention a couple things…

1.) Not the shittiest thing they’ve done using Covid as an excuse. The manager before me wouldn’t accept an early retirement package. So they used a single complaint from an employee about her not wearing a mask in her office (she was older and had asthma so she took it off when she was alone) to terminate her. Then they lied to me during the onboarding process about the employee who filed the complaint and got me to fire her during her 90 days for poor performance (and making anti-trans remarks) so they could wash their hands of what they did.

2.) I do not qualify for FMLA. Haven’t been there a year.

3.) I won’t name the company out right as I try to maintain some anonymity regarding the situation in case they don’t fire me. But I kinda don’t care at this point because they’re just straight up evil.

####Vorgeschichte 2014 während meiner Ausbildung hatte ich eine langwierige Erkältung, die ich aus vielerlei Gründen - hauptsächlich aber meiner familären Situation - verschleppt habe. Das meine Stimme plötzlich anders geklungen hat, dass ist als erstes meiiner alkoholkranken Mathelehrerin aufgefallen, die mich eines Tages besorgt beiseite genommen hat und fragte, ob bei mir denn alles in Ordnung wäre. Ich hatte selbst keine Veränderung bemerkt und hab nur mit den Schultern gezuckt.

Fast Forward zum Beginn meines Studiums in 2016: Ich bin dauerheiser, singen geht gar nicht, nach zehn Sekunden Sprechen bleibt mir die Luft weg. Ich gehe nach Absprache mit meiner Hausärztin zum HNO Arzt. Der schiebt mit ein langes dünnes Röhrchen in den Hals und schaut mich dannnach ernst An. Mein rechtes Stimmband ist vollständig gelähmt - glücklicherweise im offenen Zustand, denn sonst hätte ich wohl viel stärkere Probleme. Ich muss schlucken und zugegebenerweise auch mächtig heulen. Schon seit Kindertagen war ich eigentlich der Sänger der Familie, war im Chor und Bands.

Die Untersuchungen in der Uniklinik und ein Experte in Stuttgart können mir nicht helfen - der Nerv ist abgetötet wurden. Wie, weshalb warum - keiner kann es mir beantworten. Ich konzentriere mich auf mein Studium, verdränge das Problem und besuche einen Logopäden, der mir sehr hilft - bis die Krankenkasse nicht mehr zahlt.

Mein Leben gerät aus einer Vielzahl an Gründen die nächsten Jahre aus den Fugen und ich vergesse mein Problem fast ein bisschen.

####Die Rückkehr der Stimmbandllähmung 2, links geht auch ein Weg vorbei Seit meiner Diagnose sind ein paar Jahre vergangen. Mittlerweile bin ich Vater, getrennt, Harzer und ehrlich gesagt am Boden. 2021 endet völlig anders für mich als es angefangen hat. Well, title kind of says it all. Throwaway because my husband is active on Reddit. He's probably on it now.

Here goes: I've been with my husband for 5 years, married for 1.5. I've never once doubted his fidelity. He's great. Super smart, funny, handsome, and, I thought, loyal. He's never given me reason to doubt him or be suspicious.

I thought it was kind of odd when he downloaded snapchat; he's not big on social media. I have one, but I'm not very active. We rarely snap each other. He said his friends were really active and he liked it better than Facebook, so. As I said, I've never had any reason not to trust him. So I thought nothing of it.

This morning, my husband was in the shower and left his phone on my nightstand. I was half-asleep when his phone started chirping and woke me up. We both have the same phone and ringtone for text messages. Not knowing that he had put his phone on my nightstand for whatever reason, I thought it was my phone in my half-asleep state. Despite his black phone case (mine is green), I didn't even notice and I looked at who had texted. It said "Mom". Okay, my mom texted me, I can ignore that until I'm actually awake. But under that was a Snapchat notification. A snap from someone named "Roxy". I was like who the f is Roxy and why is she snap chatting me? I opened it and bam- it's a picture of a pussy. And not the meowing kind with four legs and a tail. The caption said "I want your tongue inside me again".

Now. I immediately thought it was a mistake. But I was alert now after being awoken by a vulva. I pretty quickly realized that this was my husband's phone. I felt like I was going to crap the bed and started to sweat. I looked at his contacts on snapchat and she has a yellow heart next to her name. I looked up wtf that means and it means they are "best friends". WTF. I feel like I'm going to be sick. I didn't do any other snooping because honestly, I know what I'll find. I just don't understand how he could do this. We're happy. I thought we were happy. We have sex at least four times a week.

As Governor-General Erril looked out the window of the tower over what remained of his colony, he wondered what had gone so wrong. What just hours before had been one of the most beautiful and productive colonies in Alliance space was reduced to a husk, with fire and destruction bathing the streets of his city.

“Watch the doors!” One of his personal guard shouted as the five remaining men barricaded the only door into the room. Despite all the planning, all the preparation, the Humans had rolled through their defenses as if they weren’t there! Perhaps they’d underestimated the symbolic value of the planet, and overestimated the strength of their own men.

There was a banging on the other side of the door, and the soldiers trained their plasma rifles on it: the Humans were on the other side. Erril drew his pistol, hoping to at least go out shooting. This hopelessness must have been what the original inhabitants of this world felt, the last time he had seen it, as a young gunnery officer: a terrible but necessary act.

The banging on the other side of the door went silent. They could hear murmurs of the Humans speaking to one another, but none understood. There was a few tense moments of silence. And Erril briefly hoped they had left. Then someone on the other side shouted: “Detonating Breacher!” And before anyone could react the door exploded.

Erril was thrown to the floor by the blast, his gun leaving his hands as his ears rang. Before he could gather his wits or even sit up a boot was planted firmly on his chest, holding him down. The creature looming over him was Human, it’s face dirty with ash and dirt but clearly angry: he was clad in a simple combat uniform, his clothes and helmet in an urban camouflage. “Looks like this is him, sir.” The Human said to another of the six that entered the room, making sure that his guards were dead.

“The plan?” Keone replied in what seemed like bemused surprise, his low voice barely above a low, chuckling rumble.

Nia perched her lips and looked at the large man disapprovingly.

“Yes, the plan!” she replied energetically, but managed to refrain from yelling again. “As in: What are we going to do once we arrive at that station?”

Shida didn’t dare to back the woman up in a similarly vigorous fashion, feeling that she should still refrain from behaving too familiarly around the human Commander, despite his inviting demeanor. However, she also very much did want to know what the next steps would be going forward, so she attentively raised her ears and kept her eyes on Keone.

The Commander’s soft face kept its warm smile, however his gaze turned serious as he looked back at Nia, and when he answered, his firm voice spoke in no uncertain terms,

“’We’ aren’t going to do anything. Right now, I can’t be certain if I can rely on this new information or not, but one thing is clear: As long as we have you and them on board, we’re not going anywhere near that station. Which also means your traveling plans are postponed. The risk is way too high. And besides, deciding a course of action in a matter this possibly significant to the future of intragalactic relationships is far, far outside of my authority. What we will do is get this to the proper channels and let people way more qualified than we are handle the situation.”

Shida felt agitation rise up within her, and she nervously glanced over at Nia, hoping that maybe, another outburst of James’ sister would allow her to retain her passive position. Not looking for legal advice as in if I have a legal case, because I don't think that's really possible in this subreddit, but the gist of my (long) story is;

I took Lexapro for years at a high dosage (30mg), couldn't get a refill from this APRN, who moved from RI to TX in 2015, and I would see via telehealth every 4-6 months or so for the Lexapro refill. I went off 30mg of Lexapro in June 2020 cold turkey, didn't have any noticeable health problems (anxiety was a different story) but I re-contacted this APRN in September 2020 after a bad panic attack. They put me on 10mg of Lexapro and 2-3 weeks in I got a mushy, weird feeling in my head and got tons of sudden severe problems like extreme fatigue, brain fog, short term and long term memory loss, neuropathy, nausea, intense muscle twitching, sinus inflammation, breathing problems, ear ringing, spiked blood pressure, numb emotions and libido, etc.

The main point of this post is that when this happened, I stopped taking the Lexapro again immediately, because I thought it was the cause. The APRN suddenly then refused to see me again, even though they had gladly taken me back on to give me Lexapro, and said I needed to see a therapist before this APRN would see me again. They had never required this before in the 6 years I saw them.

My mother was sick with terminal cancer at this time, and I had called this person, who lives in Texas, maybe at around 7 AM saying I would appreciate any help they could give me. They called me up later, got angry at me for "waking them up", and say "I should have been to therapy long before this".

I later did see a therapist, and the APRN now said "we both decided you should see somebody locally for medication management".

I saw another therapist later on (first one didn't click with me), and she agreed that the way this APRN handled my case was very unprofessional. The APRN never properly discharged me, or referred me to somebody locally. They should have referred me to somebody locally when they moved to Texas in 2015, but they probably wanted to keep getting my money.

This APRN had been rude previously, yelling at my mother for paying for the visits, which is just strange. The APRN was rude to her even after her cancer diagnosis, from what my mother told me.

I've filed a complaint with my state DOH, but is there anything else I should be doing here? This person was awful to me in one of the most stressful periods of my life. My health problems haven't really gone away,

I’ve been reading through some of the posts here this week, and I’ve been thinking, wow. I thought I was being quite firm with MIL so far but I’m starting to think I’ve been way too patient! So I present, hopefully for you to relate to, some of the weird shit I’ve put up with over the last 8 years.

Background: SO and I together 8 years. FIL passed away 9 years ago, before we met, everyone was devastated by the loss, SO and MIL included. I really feel for her and I think it must have been so hard. On the other hand, she refuses to do anything to make herself happy, refuses to see friends and wants SO to basically fill the void left by FIL in her life - wants to talk on the phone with him almost every night, must visit twice a week, for maybe up to 8-10 hours. SO has tried to encourage her to see friends, or consider online dating to meet someone but she just sort of ignores it. She is incredibly overbearing and SO confirms she was like this before FIL passed away. we feel so guilty because we know she suffered a great loss, but she seems to be happy to just force us to emotionally support her… forever? (I’m saying all this in her defence really, I don’t think she’s an asshole but just that she puts a lot of weird emotional pressure on us!) I should also point out she is rarely alone and gets loads of support. UIL1 and 2 see her every week and phone calls every week, friends with neighbors sees them almost every day for coffee and chats, calls with friends every night. SO has 1 brother, 2 step brothers - they all live far away but call every week. SO only child who can visit regularly.

Weird things: At least once a month, she will remind us that when SO was a baby, he would cry out for her (I thought all babies do that?) and says “he would cling to me all the time and now it’s my turn”

When we visit, there is no acceptable time to leave. Even if we have been there for 10-12 hours, she will beg us to stay longer (I’m an introvert so I just find this so exhausting and stressful) as soon as I say anything about heading home, she will say she’s making a cup of tea or just keep talking and talking so we can’t leave. On several dozen occasions, she has also cried - she cries when we say we are leaving to go home, and insists SO sits with her and hugs her for a half hour before we can leave. This is on days where she is laughing and joking up to the point where we say we have to go home (for reasons like, it’s midnight and we

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

You know, when you get certain calls from guests from certain parts of the world, and you just know, this is going to be a long process.

So it's around 07.00 o'clock, and a phone call comes in from the room. Guest is informing us about his intentions of checking out so we can prepare his bill...

I am, now imagining, how many people I should call to help me prepare his bill... but then it hit me... it's year 2021, and I have everything in one place... our PMS! It took me a second to type his room number in, another press on Enter I have entire bill in from of me...

I spot few issues that are tell tails on this is going to take a long time...

At this point, I am considering to call the guest and inform him, that bill is ready, just for fun... But I do not do it... I do know, that guests from his region do have relaxed relationship to time... so soon is... anywhere from now to 2 hours from now.

Guest comes down 40 minutes later and wants to check-out. But his whole attitude toward the process is like he already paid, I guess that is maybe what he expected to have been done when he called down.

I explain him the bill, that he did not pay at arrival (as per our SOP) but only paid partially. This is the tell tail I mentioned above. He maxed the card and was unable to settle the entire bill at once. He stayed here for 10 days, and did not bother coming by to settle his affairs. He comes from a region where banking system is like .... no not... swiss time pieces... word of mouth... So of course he will have no problem settling outstanding upon departure... And unicorns exist...

ME: How would you like to settle outstanding amount?

G: On the card.

“Seth, is this a trigger word for you?” Keiko asked quietly, feeling extremely foolish as she held up her device with the notetaking function open and the word ‘breed’ typed out in large letters. She thought the sharp exhalation through his nose might have been some sort of laugh or chuckle, but his face didn’t follow suit.

“You have definitely been watching too many vids, my Lady. Biometric scanners in the walls and brainwashing? What will be next, I wonder?” he replied. She only forgave his sarcasm because she understood she was very much the aggravator in the situation. The wild dog tucked the technology away and sat on their hotel room bed.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t even bother to check for bugs and things,” she recalled. He pulled back his cloak slightly, revealing the same device she’d seen on his person during their foray into the Oasis back in the Capital.

Not even a cheer from the audience was caught by Soona's sensor. It had gone long since quite as the strained gurgles of the worm choked out. The hammer lodged in its broken rows of teeth.

O'plen and Soona found themselves able to do nothing as Demon trudged behind the worm, firmly grasped the gored mess of its exposed tail... and started swinging.

Its labored efforts to un-lodge the hammer were drowned out as violent hitting of bone armor crashing into rock sounded out. Followed by cracking, then the tenderizing of flesh.

The worm had long since died after the first ten swings, but Demon went for twenty. Then for thirty.

Soona knew no possible order she could give him that would stop his wrath. And she grew uneasy, sacred even as he continued.

ERRRRRR

The end match buzzer screeched out slapping all the contestants out their dazed states. Much to her relief, even demon stopped.

Seemingly broken from the chains of each aliens version of death, the crowd started moving around again and cheered behind the protective wall. Possibly even grateful for the barrier between them and Soona's beast.

As Soona really only just digested what happened the booming voice of the referee returned happier than ever.

"Beings and tentacles! We have ourselves a winner!" He shouted enthusiastically.

Continuing, "Soona the Bitumin and her bone beast-... excuse me what is his assigned name? You haven't placed it in the documents." He asked lowering his voice and zipping in front of her.

Looking back into the deep crimson of the camera, she stuttered "D-Demon."

Without missing a beat he said "And her bone beast Demon!"

Almost eating from the palm of his imaginary hands, the crowd went wild. Soona had never seen a crowd this excited for a warm up match. They were just meant to build up the tension later games would use the hype of.

If not stuck fifteen feet away from what they were cheering at, she too would possibly be excited. Impressed maybe.

But... she knew the truth. She had experienced it all first hand. The looks. The strange behavior. Fighting with not just using advanced tactics and tools to win, but all without her ordering it to do so.....

SOMETHING IS WRONG. Her inner core trembled as the bone beast inspected its injures as medical bots in similar look to the referee floated by to heal it. They told her to order it into passive mode so they could safely treat and bandage the foot wound, but she knew Demon wouldn't listen. Helplessly she told them it

I absolutely loved this game. I don't know how much my significantly lowered expectations or the fact that I got it for a mere $4 during the recent Steam holiday sale play into it, but I absolutely adored this title. It may just be the post-game glow, but this game did a lot of things right in my experience. So much so that I'd place is among Dragon Age - Origins and Mass Effect 2 as my favorite BioWare RPGs. I even enjoyed it more than I did Witcher 3, somehow, and I loved that game. I just don't recall feeling this enamored with it when all was said and done (I still haven't had a chance to play through the expansions though). Those are some big shoes to fill, so let me get into it...

Firstly, full disclosure: I'm a somewhat sensitive person who can be swayed through more aesthetic, less concrete things. Good to be aware of that, I guess, but I often find myself liking things that many others did not because it happened to strike a particular nerve within me. It's sometimes hard to place exactly what a piece of media touched, but it often manifests in me preferring games like Dragon Age 2 over ones like Dragon Age Inquisition despite all of it's technical shortcomings in comparison.

I say this because I know Andromeda probably won't hit the same notes with some people, and that's totally fine. Things as seemingly simple as stirring music, beautiful vistas, compelling themes, etc., can seduce me to fall in love with a game, and Andromeda was not exception in these categories. And of course, the characters, Mass Effect — and BioWare games in general — are built foremost on characters, and Andromeda was certainly no slouch in this respect. From the grandpa-krogan Drack to the mysterious yet open book Jaal, Andromeda had loads of well written, well developed characters. I'm not going to pretend that the writing was perfect, but again, it struck a chord with me. Take what you will from that.

Most of this will probably end up focusing on the characters though, so I'll set aside that discussion for later. One last acknowledgement: I really appreciated the sense of novelty and exploration this game had to offer. I'm one of those people who legitimately enjoys just roaming the procedurally generated planets of No Man's Sky and scanning things, and this game has shades of that experience as well. It's a lot more directed, obviously, but it manages to toe the line pretty well between large, unexplored open worlds and a
