First ever reddit post (commented before but never started one)!!!
So in the big crossover universe who would be your crew?
Skipper: kirk..... First Mate: chewbacca..... Security: garibaldi (bab5)..... Engineering: kaylee (firefly)..... Comic relief: Twiki (buck rogers).....
Since yesterday, I've been kicking the following idea around in my head:
I want to run a short campaign focusing on a scientific Imperial mission into the outer rims. A sort of "Star trek meets Star trek".
The Federation sees itself as peaceful, enlightened explorers, and while that may hold true for certain flagships, it's still a human(oid)centric militaristic superpower. If we were to only meet the corrupt admirals, ruthless crews like the Equinox or the deadly MACOs, could we really tell the difference from the Grand Moffs, the Imperial squadrons or the Stormtroopers?
With only the slightest tweaking, it becomes entirely plausible that the Empire not only has scientific vessels on peaceful exploratory missions, but also that their captains are unaware of the evil leadership and the exact nature of imperial subjugation of entire planets (remember, the Maquis accuse the Federation of similar crimes and are dismissed if not outright fought by Picard, Sisko and Janeway).
My idea to test the waters on this is running my players through the adventure module "Debts to pay" In short, it's about a mining facility where the droids have gone haywire, killed most of their human masters and barricade themselves in a cave. I think it will take only a little bit of rewriting to mash that scenario up with the TOS episode "The Devil in the Dark", by giving the Horta the ability to control droids through some sort of technobabble and recontextualize their uprising into an effort to protect the Horta eggs, which are being hidden in the cave.
What do you think? Does my idea of an Imperial scientific mission hold any water? Which Star trek races and cultures would conceivably be ignorant enough of the intergalactic power dynamic to believe in a peaceful empire? Any ideas on what a potential Imperial explorer could feel and act like?
StarPeace was an MMO city-builder/economic simulator. You'd start on an uninhabited planet and then decide what type of company (residential/commercial/industrial) you want to start. Someone builds residential buildings attract populations who want jobs and demands goods/services. Other people make industries to supply jobs and produce those goods/services. If a player gains enough money and influence, they can be elected to political power and levy tax to build things like a road network across the planet to make transport of goods easier. It sounds lame, but it was a lot of fun and very complex.
Are there any games like this that exists today?
StarPeace was a persistent-world, massive-multilayer game that played like a cross between Capitalism Plus and SimCity. When I played back in 2000 I was the top producer and seller of CDs. It was free game for a couple years while it was under development until Sony Online Entrainment bought it and started charging $12 a month for it, which caused everyone to leave and killed the game.
Now there is a fan-made clone called Starpeace Online. I haven't tried out this clone yet, but if it's anything like the original, it should be a great game.
Has anyone else played the original or the new clone?
Anyone remember this little gem of an MMO Tycoon game? I remember there being a fan project that brought the servers back up to play on, but I don't know if it's still around/any other people opened up their own.

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.
I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.
When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."
From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"
Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
