A list of puns related to "Ski Touring"
Considering picking up an old cheap pair of "ski blades" and mounting some fancy AT bindings. Crazy or great idea ?
They seem pretty ideal for BC travel assuming I can find a pair that's wide enough for decent float - short length makes navigating trees and difficult terrain easier, they're lighter than even the lightest AT skis, and they seem quite durable.
Hello
Our Ski-doo Touring 2001 keeps burning the head and the rear light? We have had it to be fixed at a workshop twice now for the same problem but it still doesen't work. Last time they changed a new voltage regulator. I tried cleaning the ground cable attachment point and it worked fine for a while after that but now the problem is back.
Any suggestions on what to do next?
Hey all, looking for a gift for my boyfriend who works in the avalanche industry and loves touring. Someone recommended clear lenses for looking at snow crystals but Iβm having trouble finding any other than the basic Smith ones. Would be cool to get a pair that comes with an additional lens, one clear and another daytime one. Any ideas?
Background: Advanced Resort and Intermediate Park Skier, mostly west coast, current main setup is a Ripstick 96 with Salomon STH2s and S/Pro 120 boots. No backcountry experience.
I'm looking to add a cheap Pow ski to the quiver for deep days and the occasional UT/WY trip. I'm also interested in eventually getting into Freeride/Backcountry stuff, but can't really afford to invest in a brand-new dedicated AT setup and Avy lessons just yet.
I found a nice-looking pair of Moment Bibbys on FB for $200 with skins included, but they come with older Marker Baron bindings which aren't compatible with my boots.
I was hoping to keep it under $500 total for this new setup. Would it be worth going a bit over that and getting a set of Hybrid bindings and/or boots for these? Or should I just get Alpine bindings and stick with my current Resort boots for now, and hold off until I can afford a dedicated AT setup in a few years?
Or am I going about this all wrong and should be looking at different skis entirely?
Does anyone know the best way to skin up McCauley? Are there trails or is the best route up the ski trails?
Hi all,
I'll be in the pyrenees for a week of skiing, likely in Andorra or the Catalan side. Any recommendations for an avalanche safety course I can do with a friend? Ideally something beginner-intermediate as I've done a few tours already and have the gear but haven't had the chance to learn from a professional.
Thanks in advance!

Looking for a backpack recommendations to support multi-day ski tour adventures.
One thing I really want, which seems super uncommon in the larger capacity bags, is a dedicated avalanche safety pocket. I'm open to alternatives if it's really feasible...
I currently have an Osprey Ariel AG 65 which I use for backpacking and like a lot, but it wouldn't be my first pick for ski touring... also, I'd probably want more than 65L I think... Everything just ends up being bulkier+more gear+layers.
Looking for a soft shell to wear on the uphill. My idea is to wear a base layer and soft shell up, then throw a puffy and hard shell on top during the transitions to trap existing body heat.
Does anyone have experience with this set up? Ideally looking for a soft shell that can cut the wind and keep off light snow but breaths well. Will be mostly in BC coastal mountains.
I like the idea of the LT over MX for versatility. I can always switch up the base layer for colder days.
So I had acl knee surgery several years ago and had a mostly full recovery. My knee hurts a bit after long days of skiing and I'm wondering if I should start wearing a brace. I'm looking for something that will be comfortable all day on the up and down. I know this is quite possibly a unicorn but figured I'd ask since every company that makes them claims theirs is the "best on the market".
I have had a pair of cheap Nordic skis for a few years now, and although Iβve loved the sport Iβve only usually been able to use them a couple of times a year.
I now work right next to a large city park where I am able to go every day, and have been doing so on my lunch breaks. The only caveat is that there is no set trail.
Iβm in the market for some new skis, and am trying to decide what type of ski would be best for it. This isnβt truly βtouringβ, so would it make sense to just buy an in-track ski and just deal with it until I have my own track solidly set?
Unfortunately there is no Nordic specialized shops around me, so any advise is appreciated. Thanks!
I mostly treated winter as an off-season for hiking and backpacking during my teens and 20s but last winter I dabbled a bit and then spent the summer gearing up to go harder this season and beyond.
I've been thinking a lot about touring skis but I don't know if I'd just end up using them in the lowland areas around me in Grafton County or if there is a lot more to discover over the years. I'm a novice downhill skiier and an intermediate snowboarder, if that matters.
I'm not even really asking for spots (although I'll definitely take any suggestions), just more wondering how many people do it in the Whites and whether they'd recommend it. Got any advice for me?
Looking to get into ski touring and not sure what skis to get. I may venture onto tracks but mostly would like to go back country. I assume metal edge but not sure. Waxless? What do people touring in the Adirondacks use? And suggestions on width under foot? I happen to telemark but I have Scarpa T2βs and G3 Targa bindings that do not have a touring mode so even with skins, fighting those cables all day doesnβt seem like fun.
Iβve been looking at skis that would be used for some touring but mainly be used in the resort. Iβve been looking at the nomad 105 and some other skis. What would you recommend?
I'm an avid classic XC skier as well as backcountry (out west with AT gear) but would like to combine the two and go off-track here in Ontario/Quebec/New England. I do have a pair of Madshus Eon's I'm dying to use (bought them a few years ago and mounted them with NNN-BC's) but haven't had a chance to yet.
The rare time I've used the Eon's I found that they struggled on climbs. Sure, I'm used to herringbone when needed but I'd really like to have a pair of skins on these skis at times. When it's icy or steep I find proper skins are very helpful and I've used them out west many times with my AT setup (which is admittedly way overkill for Ontario, thus the Eon's).
Any suggestions on what type of skins and where to buy them (particularly in Canada). All I see here at MEC are wide skins like I use on my AT skis - total overkill for my Eon's (83-62-70mm). Mounting options for tip and tail seem very alpine ski oriented as well.
For my AT skis I have G3 Alpinist skins and cut the skins to fit the shape of the ski (in retrospect a straight narrow skin may have worked better, particularly for folding and storage). Thoughts on that for a nordic setup like the Eon's? The G3's are so wide it would be a waste to cut away so much of it...
In future I'll probably end up getting a bit of a narrower/less sidecut off-track XC ski instead of the Eon's, so skins that could be 'future proof' would be ideal. I'll probably ask for suggestions for a Northeast oriented XC off track skis later on when I'm ready for that :)
Thanks!

Hello everybody!
one of my Cho Oyu (90mm, 174cm) edge broke and I am planning to buy a new pair of skis.
I would like to stick with something similar (light and 90mm) and found:
I may reuse my Speed Turn bindings, but I have no problem buying a new pair.
I thought:
What could be the best setup in your opinion? Alternatives?
Thanks
Iβm looking for recommendations for a top for ascending in -3 to +3 degrees C (25 to 38 degrees F). Needs to breath well and cut the wind. Could be used with thin merino layers or replace them. Hood optional. I carry a hard shell. Ski touring in Australia.
Edit: thanks to all for the recommendations and advice.
Edit 2: Found Patagonia Houdini and OR Ferrosi hooded jacket really cheap online (both under $AUD85), so I will try them both. Couldnβt find the BD Alpine Start in Australia, but I will remember that and the Gamma Lt for future experimentation.
