Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifoli is not available in Canada. Can those of you in the US just pick this up at a department store? Just wondering if I should be on the look out when I can travel again. Thank you!

Just got this and I really like this scent! But it’s fairly unisex IMO and I’d like to layer it to make it feel more feminine and modern/youthful. It also doesn’t last too long on my before becoming a skin scent. I’d love to see how you guys have layered this in past!

Most of the layering combinations I’ve seen are for the EDP, which I believe is different than the EDT - it’s more complex and strong and probably wouldn’t mix well with stronger perfumes.

It seems that the EDT is more common to find nowadays but it doesn’t get talked about as much as the EDP?

Edit: when you layer, do you usually spray the two on top of each other or in different places?

I’ve just realised it’s been 100 years since these iconic fragrances were created. But I’ve not seen any mention of their achievement anywhere online 😢. Is anyone else in the mood for celebration?

So I made a post here a few weeks ago mentioning how much I liked Guerlain vanilla, and some of you suggested I try Shalimar. Well, a few days after that I sprayed a paper card at a department store. I absolutely hated the smell - all I got was motor oil, cigarettes and petrol. I didn't get any of that fluffy, lemony vanilla cake notes that I see so often.

However for some reason the scent became memorable, and I found myself craving to give it one more try. I probably singled it out because it's not a common scent nowadays. So I gave it one more try on my wrist. Again, I got a harsh citrus opening, the cigarettes/petrol scent - but this time I waited to see how it would develop. And after about 45 minutes, I finally got that powdery, smoky vanilla that I was looking for.

Still, I don't feel confident enough to wear it outside (I'm a 23 y.o. woman) but it's definitely something I'd wear at home to appreciate.

This is my first Guerlain perfume: Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia. I was lucky yesterday, after weeks of stalking the US site I snagged this one and got it delivered today complimentary overnight shipping.

I couldn’t be happier with my purchase it smells divine, great projection and silage I only need 2 little sprays on the wrist. It’s quite potent 💗 Any other fans of Shalimar MVP?

Hello everyone!

I am anosmic, which means I have no sense of smell. None AT ALL. I lost it due to a head injury in 2010.

Before the accident, I used to wear Dolce Gabbana's Sicily (which I would describe as smelling like a warm bath in a sunny bathroom in a stone castle in Sicily). It was the best and I planned on wearing it forever, as I would remember the smell, but unfortunately D&G discontinued it.

Since then, I've had to rely on descriptions on fragrantica to try and imagine what a perfume smells like.

In past years, I've worn Chanel no19, which, from what I've read, I imagine as smelling like a sexy CEO surrounded by plants. And most recently You by Glossier, which I'd read is an irresistible skin scent, though I was never able to really conceptualise it. Recently, I've felt that neither of these perfumes suit me any more.

About me: I (32F) wear black often, am kind of "dark" in disposition, bossy an confident- a very feminine figure; highly sexual; love comfort and domesticity and nighttime (sorry if this is TMI)

I'm looking for a more mature, feminine and soft scent than the clean, green, unisex scents I've traditionally gravitated towards. I've recently purchased Shalimar EDT. I've read that the EDP is rather stronger, and that EDT is more vanilla-ey, which is why i went for EDT.

The image I'm going for is: a sexy, sophisticated woman, freshly out of a bubble bath, at night, in a warm candle-lit room and draped in dark velvets- with vanilla cake baking in the oven.

Is Shalimar EDT the right perfume for this image? Does it suit the way I've described myself? Help me out!!

UPDATE: Wow!! You guys have been so amazing!! I'm so grateful! Thank you so much. My conclusion, is that Shalimar EDT may be more incense-y and leathery than vanilla'ey, close to my description but 100% it. Your best suggestions from what I've read: Musc ravageur, By the Fireplace, and especially Love and Crime (thank you!!). The latter is currently sold out, but I must get a bottle.

In the meantime, I've purchased a bottle of Shalimar Millesime Vanilla Planifolia- which is supposed to be Shalimar without the intense citrusey beginning, softer, and with Vanilla center stage. Vanilla is what I'm after, so I think this will do for now.

Not sure if I’ve come across this debate somewhere but I personally love Shalimar. People I’ve had smell it says it smells like a grandma when I asked them to smell it. But have smelled it on me and liked it. What do you guys think. I wear it from time to time and get similar reactions. Still wear it still love it lol.

While I wasn't paying any attention, Guerlain is coming up with some new stuff. Some of it's new bottles/custom features, some of it's new perfume—

Rooting around for fall perfume samples I got a sample of Le Lion and obviously got hit with a blast of déjà vu.

It’s Shalimar but with the Chanel aldehyde lift instead of the Guerlinade note. I don’t have a modern Shalimar sample, just a 50’s vintage which frankly is only wearable at the dry-down and won’t get my current Shalimar sample for a bit.

Has anyone done a comparison side by side? What’s the deal?
