In telling my wife the story I told her that I was disappointed that it was a car, since: if it was a shoe I could say it was cold feet, and if it was a phone he was trying to cold call someone.
My wife, completely deadpan, responds:
"He was looking for a cool ride"
A little boy named Tom was approaching his 3rd birthday, and absolutely adored the show "Tractor Tom", partially because of his name being spoken, and partially because he loved tractors.
As the day drew nearer, his parents decided to buy him a toy tractor as a gift. The rest of his toys were gone with the wind at this point, as Tom spent all his waking hours playing with this one tractor toy.
Fast forward a few years, and Tom's now approaching his 10th birthday, with his love for tractors intact and intensified. His parents discuss what to get for him, and decide that a ride-on tractor to replace his bike is the best gift they can give him.
Tom absolutely loves the gift, and spends all of his time out of school riding around the neighbourhood while his bike collects dust in the garage.
We come forward a few more years, as Tom approaches his 18th birthday, with an only intensified adoration of tractors. His father pulls him aside on the morning of his birthday, saying "Now son, I know that we've promised you a car, but we know what you really want."
He leads him outside, to a brand new tractor with a bow on it, saying that this is his welcome to adulthood.
Tom is beyond excited, and spends the next few months going everywhere in his tractor - grocery trips, bars, classes, friends' houses.....
Again, a few years later, Tom is driving down a back country road, in the middle of nowhere, with his tractor, in the middle of a storm. The tractor breaks down, and with no air conditioning or any form of modern comforts, Tom is in a miserable mood until someone finally comes past for him to flag down for help. After this, Tom realises that although tractors are fun, maybe they're not the best transport method out there.
Tom ages through a few more years, and finds himself driving down another road in the middle of nowhere in his car, and sees a house on fire just off the road. Being a good samaritan, he pulls over and heads up the driveway to a woman running out of the house screaming "Please, help, help! My baby is trapped in there! Go and call 911, please!"
Tom turns around, then, before leaving, has a brainwave.
He turns back and walks towards the flames, saying "Don't worry, ma'am, I've got this."
He takes a deep breath in, and the fire disappears into nothingness. As you'd expect, the woman is in awe, and asks, "Oh my God, how did you do that?!"
Tom simply responds, "Well you see ma'am, I'm an extractor fan."
A peach hobbler.
(This is an original as far as I can tell. Made it up years ago on a car ride across the US with the family. Kids are in college now but still enjoy it.)
My dad is a police officer and I was on a ride-along with him. He and his partner arrested a guy for shoplifting. As the perp, whose name is "Unique," is sitting in the back of the car, my dad walks up, looks at me smiling, and says to the suspect "how do you catch a unique criminal? Unique up on em!" He and his partner laughed and high-fived, then just shut the door.
So my wife and eldest daughter are in the dining room and Iβm in the kitchen. They are talking about parking a car at school, and getting the ticket that allows this from the office. I step into the room:
Me: βYou guys are talking about a ticket to park?β
Kid: βYeahβ
Me: βBut I thought Paul McCartney said it was a ticket to ride...β
Wife: βShut up dearβ
I look at the kid and point to my wife:
βShe donβt care.....β

... keep reading on reddit β‘So my grandfather is on his honeymoon with our grandmother and they are driving to Las Vegas, on their way there they see a fellow on the side of the road. They debate about taking him to the city instead of leaving him there, the end up letting him get a ride to the city, they say "Hey sir, want a ride to the city?" He replies "sure thanks", they drive down the road and notice he has a bag, so they ask " what's in the bag?" He replies with "None of your damn business" they start to think in their heads, what if he has something illegal or dangerous, so my grandfather takes action, he goes to the side of the road and pretends to fake piss and opens the door and my grandmother kicks him out and my grandfather gets back in locks the door and they speed off, as they're driving they notice he left his back and dropped it in the car, they decide to open and see what it beholds, they open the bag and find a single piece of paper, the paper had wording on it, it said "None of your damn business."
Backstory: Many years ago I was living on my own about 45 minutes away from my parents. I had a stable job but didn't make much money and was broke most of the time. I had an old beat up car that was my only form of transportation. I would always have mechanical issues with the car and finally one morning it decided it wouldn't start no matter what.
I sheepishly had to call in to work and explain the situation and let them know that I would have to take a sick day but would figure some way to get to work the next day. I called my dad and he offered to come pick the car up on his trailer and take it back to his garage to work on it and get it in shape to trade it in.
He drives to my apartment, we get the car on the trailer and we are headed back to his house. The whole ride there I'm pretty pissed off and depressed about the whole situation. I'm worried about finding a new car and how I'm going to afford it and what I'm gonna do if I can't get it running again.
Dad senses my mood and pretty much keeps quiet the whole time. We get about three blocks away from his house and he utters this gem.
"Man, this car won't get off my ass. He's been tailgating me for 45 minutes now."
This was the perfect thing to snap me out of my funk and break the tension. I absolutely lost it. Only a Dad Joke could make me realize how trivial the whole thing was. I have told this joke to others who didn't really think it was that funny, but to me at the time it was the greatest thing ever.
Thanks Dad.
I just picture Dave Grohl riding the coaster car in his throne with his leg in a cast rocking out.
Im pulling out of a parking spot, with my wife in the back with my toddler son.

Wife: No

Wife: You are trying my patience
So we were riding our car in the highway and a truck loaded with dirt all the way up was in front of us, when all of a sudden my dad talks, "So that's how they deliver when you buy land!"
Talking with a friend yesterday and dropped this one from his childhood:
When he was six years old, he was riding in the car with his parents when he saw a "Fallen Rock" sign on the side of the road. He asked his dad what it meant, to which his dad replied, "when the white man came through here and kicked out the Indians, there was one that they couldn't catch, Fallen Rock who ran off and hid in the woods. He has been angry at the white man ever since hunts them down. The sign lets people know Fallen Rock has been seen in the area and to watch out for him."
He believed it for years and would always look for Fallen Rock when they saw one of the signs.
Edit: spelling
On bridges in Michigan, there are signs warning motorists of ice that forms over them during the winter months.
When I was a kid, I was riding in the car with my dad one hot summer day. my dad says, "boy is it hot..." as he pulls over on the bridge, unhooks his wristwatch and sticks it out the window. I ask, "what are you doing, dad?" And he says, "didn't you see the sign? 'Watch for ice on bridge'!"
He laughed for a good five minutes as he drove off.
Out riding in the car with my boyfriend this evening.
Me: The trees look really pretty in this lighting.
Him: Yeah they really do! That one pine tree has scoliosis.
Me: Oh, does it?
Him: Yeah! Do you see it?
[I see the tree he is referring to.]
Me: nodding yes
Him: (nonchalantly) I guess it's just the curvature of the pine.
I laughed really hard.
My girlfriend makes two twos. But she sells them for only 5 dollars. My mom thinks that price isn't nearly high enough.
So I'm riding in the car with my parents and my mom says "wow Window_Lurker this girl is selling two twos on etsy for 50$"
To which my dad replies "jeez. I wonder how much she could make selling three threes"
Backstory: I'm in the Navy and my chief needed a ride to pick up his car from the shop. First he needed to make a quick stop at the bank so he can pay for his car, though.
As he jumped out to head into the bank he said, "I'll be back" but said it like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
To which I replied, "Why not Mozart?"

There was a little boy who absolutely loved tractors, so for his 3rd birthday, his father bought him a little toy one. The boy thought this was the best toy he had ever gotten, and ignored all his other gifts to focus on the tractor, pushing it around the lounge whenever he got the chance, making tractor noises etc.
As the boy grows a little bit older, he comes to his 10th birthday, when his dad says "Alright son, you're a little older now, so here you go" before giving him a push-along ride-on tractor for their backyard. The boy thinks this is even better than his now quite old toy tractor, and is taking days off school and everything just to ride around the house and neighbourhood on his push-along tractor.
He gets a little older again, and lo and behold, it's now his 18th birthday. His dad comes up to him during the party and says "Ok son, you're a man now, so here you go" before unveiling a fully functional tractor for his son. "Wow, thanks Dad, this is amazing!" says the son, before taking it for a quick test drive. The tractor becomes his main transport, as he goes to the grocery store and just generally cruises in his brand new tractor.
He decides to take the tractor on it's first proper outing, and goes into the middle of nowhere, with no cell service or house to be seen for miles, and the tractor of course breaks down. It takes him a while to get in touch with AAA and his Dad to come and help him out, so he decides after that experience that maybe it would be a better idea to invest in a car than a tractor after all.
Lo and behold, a few years later, the now adult son is driving down the same road in his new car, although there's now a house there that is engulfed in flames! A lady comes out, screaming "Help! Help! Call 911, my baby is trapped inside!" The man simply stops and says "It's ok, mam, I've got this." He takes in a massive gulp of air, and the entire fire just disappears! The lady says "Wow, that's amazing! How did you do that?!" before the man responds with "Well, you see mam, I'm an ex tractor fan."
We get in the car ready for a long car ride and my friend brings up that he got an MRI on his back.
Friend:Ya it was in a semi truck
Dad:That's weird, how long ago was it
Friend: about a week ago
Mom:Would you say a "weak back"
My dad and I were driving on the interstate, when we pass a hearse. He points to it and says, "I love cars and all, but that's the LAST thing I want to ride in".
ugh...
So my sister is in grade 11, and on a car ride to her game she was asking myself and my parents some questions about her biology course. At one point she asked if we remembered what the two types of cells were, as she could only remember one, the eukaryotes.
Immediately after saying this, my mom chimed in with "if one is eukaryotes, then the other must be eu-dine-in's". Everybody groaned, but I'm fairly certain my dad was very proud in that moment.
Starting to consider a new (used) car, and we think we're looking for a VW bus.
The kids asked why I was trying to look for one of those.
Told the kids, "I'm going to charge you to ride in it, after all it is only fare."
When I was in college, I was riding my bicycle and got hit by a car. I had to get some stitches and my nose re-broken, but nothing too serious. When I got out, I called my dad and told him...
>Me: I got hit by a car today...
>Dad: Holy &^%$, are you okay?
>Me: I'm okay, just a little run down.
Riding in the car with dad and I decide to tell him a joke (I know a lot of people have heard it before).
Me: If I was a DJ I'd be DJ Enzyme cause I like to break it down!
Dad: Well I'd be DJ Photon.
Me: Whaaaaaat?
Dad: Cause I like to light it up!
