A list of puns related to "Renessaince"
I just tried Field of Glory 2 Medieval and i fell in love. Any other decent medieval or a bit later era wargames? Or did i just buy the best already?
I'm struggling on how to build the world of the fantasy novel I am writing.
It's meant to be kind of a grimdark world, where injustice is (regrettably) common. Classism forms a passive piece of the struggle the characters endure from day to day, and a large part of the nihilistic feel of it is that the country they risk the life and limb for is not really all that great. (To be fair, neither are the others). So the strife on the characters by the unjust society is an integral part of the book.
But, I would like there to be women soldiers, because all the characters are in the military and spend the whole book deployed, so if there are no female soldiers there are no recurring female characters in the book at all.
How could I make it plausible that somehow the society is very stratified and social mobility is low, yet women are allowed into the armed forces (they can he discriminated against in other ways, to get some of the idea across).
Basically, I feel it'd be weird if the book makes big point of many other forms of discrimination and how the characters suffer from it, but sexism is somehow absent. So I need an explanation why would sexism be absent.
The war situation isn't (at least yet) bad enough to warrant conscription of women as last resort.
hey guys. ill be starting to DM eberron for my group soon and when i talk to them i strongly feel different levels of understanding how steampunk/scifi etc eberron is. one of my players seems to think its ww2 technology level, another one almost starwars'esque, another one.... while i been reading halfway through the recent rising of the last war 5e book rather picture it being renessaince+steampunk levelish. most of my players want to use firearms and i been researching a lot, now settling on the renessaince weapons of the DMG as a base offering blueprints for the artificer of the group who then can build very magic-steampunk-heavy modifications for these weapons to make somewhat modern weapons out of them using magic twists mostly.
long story short: how did you present eberron for your groups? i for example like to desribe in referrences, therefor i picture my eberron like following
tairnadal elves - dothraki talenta halflings - mix of every indogenoues people with gatherhold basicly being abarian nights lazhaar pirates - scottish pirates q'barra - wild west + voodoo (dragonborn druidism) karrnath - ancient rome with zombies cyre -ancient greece breland/sharn - new york of 1915 with extreme steampunk elements sarlona - japanese/asian thrane - silvermoon(world of warcraft)+vatican aundair - elder scrolls high elves+humans droaam - halloween land
...
how would you describe your eberron?
Fight takes place on the Venice Rooftops with a canal in the middle. Characters have to be nerfed down to make sense in that era. For example, Batman is weaker because he won't have the technology to train with and his gadgets (if any) and armour have limits. Does this give Ezio the upper hand against anyone? This is Brotherhood Ezio but he has access to bombs of Revelations if need be. He can call in one arrow storm from his brotherhood, too.
Every time I read about someone taking refuge in a church and claiming sanctuary, they're either A) Murdered anyway, B) trapped inside for a long time or C) taken out of sanctuary by some means. Did kings in Christian Europe give those in sanctuary a free pass, or did they attempt to apprehend their enemies by other means (starvation, penalties for the church, legal loopholes)? Sanctuary seems like a very flawed but very common resort for people on the run.
Medieval Western European rulers often tried to find a connection to a Roman Empire, claimed Roman titles and compared themselves to Romans. Then there was Renessaince where everything from Antiquity was praised. Did anything like that happen in Muslim World?
We often hear about Muslim scholars keeping ancient text forgotten in Western Europe. They were also part of Roman Empire for a long time, and later part of Eastern Roman Empire/Byzantium. Did they consider Roman Empire times a golden age, did they try to imitate it?
It could be about stealing a hoard of gold from a king, or maybe hijacking a spanish treasure fleet ship. It would be so cool.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

In my alt-history project, the USA controls all land south of what would the St.Lawrence River and I am having trouble naming the state South of Quebec and north of Vermont, Maine, and New Brunswick on this map.
In this project, I don't want the St. Lawrence River to be called that. I was thinking of the name Kaniatarowanenneh for both the river and state as it's the native Iroquois name for the river, however, Kaniatarowanenneh is a long and complicated name and I can't imagine that European colonists would be comfortable with using it. I tried creating an anglicization of the name but haven't had any luck.
I've also considered renaming the St.Lawrence to the ''Iriquois River'' and the state ''Iriquois'' but I'm not sure if that would work or not.
I am preferably looking for a Native American name. Any ideas?
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
Theyβre on standbi
Pilot on me!!
Nothing, he was gladiator.
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?
" Hey, you two stop making out "
When I got home, they were still there.
I won't be doing that today!
