A list of puns related to "Recycling Plastic"
I want to hate that recycling bins are so rare out in shops and public spaces, but it really does save some bother.
We have recycling bags with enough air trapped inside to go deep sea diving for a week, the recycling I put in them takes up 20% of the space despite being the same number of items as hers!
In other countries I'm pretty confident the bins get emptied far more than every 14 days. With so much plastic and cardboard these days trying to mash it all in even when ripped up or crushed it will eventually overflow.
Wish I had known about this ages ago.
You can also recycle bubble wrap.
Note that I don't think collections are currently happening in Auckland yet, but will resume as Covid restrictions ease up. I'm just keeping all mine in a box to take up in the future.

"Packaging returned for recycling via our drop off bins should be βempty, clean and dryβ.Β If you want to recycle bags and wrapping from foods give the bag a quick rinse, then turn it inside out to air dry overnight before popping it in with other collected plastic packaging."

Also you can recycle polystyrene at Mitre 10:

My kids love junk modelling (everything is a potential rocket according to my 5 year old) and I like scratch building miniatures. But Iβve started to worry that after the interest/use in our creations has worn off, weβll have glue, tape, paint and varnish covered waste that canβt be recycled.
I know that reduce and reuse should come before recycle, and weβve taken steps to reduce how much plastic we use. Just want to make sure weβre reusing the plastic in the most environmentally conscious way.
Should I automatically filter out plastic tubs/bottles for their craft? Or in the grand scheme of things, is keeping the plastic waste out of circulation worth it? Iβm assuming tiny hard plastic nubbins that canβt usually be recycled are a lost cause anyway and crafting atleast keeps them out of circulation for a bit longer.
Edit: corrected a misspelling.
Hi,
I am looking for examples of profitable businesses or business models that are based on taking the plastic waste in and turning it into a profit.
Thank you!
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if it is possible to recycle number 7/"other" plastics in the yellow city plastic recycling bin?
This is the only website i have been able to find which shows how to actually separate recycling by labels (https://portalzp.praha.eu/jnp/cz/odpady/pro_obcany/jak_spravne_tridit/index.html) and it doesn't seem to show number 7, but a lot of bags/food wrappers with this label look basically the same as other kinds of plastic which can be recycled... I'm not sure if i'm missing a really obvious resource because I don't speak czech but if anyone has any help it would be much appreciated!
I hate using plastic bags. Normally I go to places that have paper bags, but on occasion I do end up with a few. Still after not throwing them away I find that I collect dozens despite my best to use paper. I felt inspired to get rid of them and found out the very place I end up with them is the place thatβs takes them back for recycle at the entrance.
Until my lazy ass gets reusable bags, I will at least few better about knowing they can be recycled.
Hi everyone! I work at a clothing brand in Manhattan and started collecting the film plastic packaging that our samples come in with hopes of recycling it. I canβt seem to find a place close to the office where I could reasonably take it all every couple of weeks. Iβm in lower Manhattan, if anyone has any recommendations or ideas of places to recycle let me know!
Long time curiosities
Does anyone know of any brewery that reuses or will take clip on plastic 4 or 6 holders. I have accumulated a small mountain of them in hopes they can get reused instead of wish-cycled into the trash.
By recycling plastics into an OSB workalike I would expect they would have the same performance standards. I know that OSB is a wood product primarily but it still has synthetics like everything else.
Wood OSB has sextupled in price and I have a feeling that's not going to change. There's a housing development in Phoenix that nearly gave up on OSB so they're basically just gluing stucco onto felt attached to the studs directly without the use of OSB on exterior walls at all.
They were doing this on a SFH residential garage so thermal loss isn't that important, but even in situations like this it's beyond cheap.
I don't entirely understand all the structural applications of OSB, or even if the example given is up to code, so I figured I'd ask here.
Phoenix follows the IBC with regular updates btw and has what I believe to be are rigorous inspections.
I did Christmas cards (a bit late as I missed the collection in December due to isolating) and I thought I'd cracked it, but I now think I might have missed the cardboard recycling collectors out as I thought they collected the plastics (purple bin) at the same time. Can anyone confirm how it works at all - I just want to make sure I don't leave anyone out.
