A list of puns related to "Premie"
My little guy was born 36+4 4 days ago, and we're both struggling. I'm currently trying to visit every feeding so we can do skin to skin and practice latching. He loves to latch on and give a coupe sucks, but gives up quickly. I can't blame him as my milk is still working on coming in.
So my schedule is currently visit baby, come home pump (currently only getting 5 ml per session), eat a snack, sleep for 40, repeat. I know no new parent is living the dream, but this does not seem sustainable for me.
Any other NICU moms find a way to help a struggling baby with breastfeeding?
Does anyone have experience with your premie child receiving SS and having Medicaid as a secondary while still in the hospital?
My baby has gained a total of 2.65 lbs. He was 34 weeks and 6 days. First week. -.15 lbs Second week +.24 lbs 10 days +.38 lbs So in 3.5 weeks he has gained a total of.47 lbs Here's the kicker and the problem I have where I don't think I am overreacting my kid left after 5 days in the nicu without even a single issue after birth and he had no anemia from here on out the baby is mainly formula feeding because the mother is out playing PokΓ©mon and drinking for atleast 8-10 hours a day.
Next 3 weeks he gains 1.06 lbs but she is still breastfeeding him at night "feeding him more formula than he is breastfeeding" when I am sleeping even though she has drank and I told her not too
She comes home drunk and then tries to be another when she was clearly drunk so I take him and leave to get a protection and custody order. I took him to the doctors and explain the situation that the mothers a drunk and is breastfeeding him while drinking. I get blood test done and he is anemic now. I get a temporary restraining order for him and myself for her to not drink within 24 hours of being around him and refrain from but not custody, she got custody because she's "breastfeeding", and I had him for 6 days until I had to bring him back to her. The first thing she does is says he's burning up and causing a scene to call an ambulance but when he goes to the er after 6 days he gained 1lb 2 ounces of course nothing wrong with him. Should I be concerned that the mother who is now again able to breastfeed him is causing harm to my son or should it be contributed to him just being a "premie"?
Here's a breakdown
1st week -.15 lbs
2nd week +.24 lbs.
10 days. +.38 lbs. 24 days total .47lbs gained
Basically my care 3 weeks. 1.06lbs 6 days. 1.12 lbs 27 days total 2.18 lbs
So my older daughter (now 2) was nearly 9 lbs- so she was well over 14 lbs by 4 months and we sleep trained her.
My 2 week old was born at 36 weeks and weighed 6 lbs 15 oz. sheβs now 7 lbs 10 oz. anyone have experience sleep training a premature baby? I want to start at 4 months but not sure if she will be ready.
Hello all I hope my post will be OK since it's not exactly nicu related. I'm the father of 29 weeker twin girls. So we had a 103 days long journey at the NICU with all the ups and downs you know around here. They are now 1 and a half and are (were) very healthy and developing great in terms of speech and motor skills. The littlest of the two (born at 850gr) is hospitalised because she got covid. We noticed a rough cough but thought she got a cold. The day after we noticed signs of respiratory distress like they had showed us during the stay at the nicu. It was a no Brainer we took her immediately to the hospital. She was desaturating at 65 when they plugged her in. We have been here for three days now she had a day of CPAP and now have a treatment with ventoline every 4 hours. I'm really angry because we did everything we could to keep our babies isolated and safe. I'm pissed because the doctors told us that covid did not seem to affect kids or babies and yet here we are. Baby 2 is starting to cough too we hope she will cope better than her sister. So to all premie parents please be extra carefull our warriors as it seems are vulnerable to that shit. If you notice a weird breathing go immediately to the hospital. Better be safe than sorry.
Edit: We were finally able to see a doctor so here it what happened: Turned out the covid acted as a catalyst for a severe asthma crisis. It could have been any other virus but since the lungs of our babies are very fragile they reacted very strongly. So it's not covid that is keeping her in the hospital it's the asthma surveillance. She's in at least one more day but she's coping great. Thanks for your messages and keep safe. Covid for some reason is not that harmful for the babies but is more likely to act as a catalyst for complications than other viruses because that thing is strong. Every one of us need to be carefull with our premies, if you have someone sick in the caretaker or around you, take your kids out !
I had a baby technically considered a premie (about one month early).
Did any of you have any new things your doctor had you do during your next pregnancy (shots, testing, more ultrasounds, etc)?
We just took home our peanut today and sheβs only about 2 kg (4 lb 6 oz) at 5 days old. She was 37 weeks at delivery so technically not a premie but she is super tiny. I would love to start baby wearing as long as itβs safe for her. I currently have the baby Ktan and Ergobaby with infant insert but I think both of those start at 7 pounds, so itβll likely be weeks or months before she fits them. I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks in advance!!!
Okay what's the deal here? What is Nick's role in the podcast now? I miss his little quips. Riley I'm sure will get the hang of it but it's just not the same.
My son is 3 weeks and 2 days old today. He came much earlier than we expected, but didn't have any NICU time, had 9 and 9 apgar scores, and was bigger than his full term brother. I had a miscarriage on 6/9/20. It crushed me, but I didn't want to wait to try again. Within a short window of when my HCG went to 0 I got a blood clotting test and my husband and I got DNA testing (I had had a full recurrent loss panel otherwise in the past). I knew it was risky to try again without results, but we were going to try again no matter what the tests said given I had a successful pregnancy in the past.
I was thrilled when I got positive pregnancy test on 7/13/20. The nurse from my OB's office actually called to update me on results that morning and I remember telling her, well I think I'm pregnant again! Then they had me go in for a blood test to confirm. The first few weeks are so scary after 3 losses, but my HCG doubled and despite spotting through half the pregnancy, my son stuck π
He was born on 2/26/21, over three weeks early. His brother or sister we lost in June was due the end of January. I think he was as anxious to meet us as we were to meet him and he met us halfway. I am so lucky to have only had to wait another month for a rainbow baby. He doesn't replace the baby we lost, but we are so thankful we have him ππ
Iβm currently 35 weeks with di/di boys. At my 32 week ultrasound they were measuring just shy of 5lbs each. All signs point to me making it to my induction at 38 weeks, but I know nothing is promised.
My question - how long (if at all) did your babes need premie clothes? I have a few things but am wondering if I should pick up some more just in case.
Thanks!
So my waters have broken at 31+6 and I'm 2 cm dilated. I'm in a hospital bed on my own, hooked up to all sorts of beeping machines and medicines. I thought I was being so good and calm but a hard conversation with the NICU consultant about feeding tubes and possibly going home without him has rocked me.
I would be so grateful if anyone could share anything positive with me
Hallo.
My LO was born 32 weeks and for the last three weeks Iβve been able to pump exclusively for her. Yesterday we started nursing and giving bottles of breast milk at 35 weeks gestation. It went pretty ok, she has a good latch just didnβt want to stay latched. Today Iβve fed her for two of her feeds! She stayed latched and was actively feeding the majority of the time and didnβt have to get the remainder of her topped off bottle put in her NG tube because she nursed so well!! Iβm in awe that I nursed a 4 pound 2 oz human successfully. Breastfeeding is cool.
Hello lovely Redditors. I just discovered this programme in my country, Australia where volunteers crochet Octopus dolls for babies born prematurely. The tentacles are supposed to feel a little like the umbilical cord to help comfort them.
If you are interested, have a search for the facebook groups "Octopus for a Preemie - NSW" or Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, etc. There is one per state. They have the patterns in the "Files" section of the pages and the main rule is they need to be posted in for quality control.
The NSW one is here but I didn't want to link them all as I am not great at formatting links:

It is a great cause and if you have the time I'm certain they would be grateful for your donations!
Twins both threw up entire bottle but donβt seem sick otherwise? Advice?
So my babies are not full term but we were just sent home from the nicu yesterday because they have been doing well. They are 36+4 and were born at 34+3. Iβm trying to strictly use breast milk but itβs difficult because I canβt seem to produce enough. Iβm trying to boost my supply for them so I started taking a few Legendary Milk products. I only started today and have taken two doses of three of the supplements. Pumping princess, the one for clogged ducts, and another one to boost supply. Both babies ate 50ml without an issue but afterward both threw up basic at their whole bottle and I had to change them both completely twice. Am I taking too much? Has anyone else had a negative experience with Legendary Milk products? No one ever told me I couldnβt take multiple supplements at once so I figured I was god. Poor kiddos, Iβm just trying my best here.
