How does the proliferation and increasing visibility of discrete Identity Groups affect polarization in society?

Some questions...

What identity groups do you belong to (by birth or by choice)?

What are the most significant challenges or questions facing people in your identity group(s)?

Which of your personal identity groups is "most important" to you? Why?

Taking other identity groups into account as well, whose problems do you think should get solved first, second, etc in society? Why?

Are there any identity groups with which you feel terminally polarized, as in you find you cannot talk, work, or associate with them because of who they are or what they claim to represent? Why?

Are there any identity groups that have been applied to you or been characterized by others, with which you do not agree?

Is there a particular hashtag-brand of identity group politics that you feel is not doing a great job of accurately representing or advocating for their movement/members, despite having some reasonable asks/goals? How would you tweak their approach or message to promote better understanding and support for those legitimate needs and ideas while minimizing the defensiveness, distrust, or division their message framing or tactics may provoke in their current form?

Have you ever been part of or advocated for an identity group that you later realized was unhealthy for you or unfair/disrespectful to the needs and/or dignity of others? How did that change come about for you?

Are there any common core value questions that apply to more than one identity group but which aren't necessarily recognized or effectively leveraged as a unifying condition as different groups compete for society's engagement in the zero-sum attention economy of modern life?

How has social media helped or hurt us in recognizing and constructively responding to the needs of various people and identity groups? How does the character and conflicting interest of social media platforms which profit from viral rage help or hurt the aims of movements whose ostensible goal is to eventually increase internal unity and equality if the achievement of those goals might ultimately result in lower or less enthusiastic platform engagement?

If you were given the job of developing a method or institution devoted to recognizing and representing all of the different identity groups that exist so that they don't turn into militarized groups of people who feel they are not included for consideration in our current systems of politics and governance, what might that look like and how would it work?

Andrew Sullivan on polarization, identity, and discourse

I host and produce a podcast about democracy and had the chance to speak with Andrew Sullivan about the state of politics in the U.S. and the UK. We talked about the hollowing out of the center and what that might mean for the future of democracy. In short, he's not very optimistic. Interview here.

Math 51 Vectors: Polarization Identity

Hello everyone, I just wanted some help interpretting this problem because I'm having trouble understanding how I'm supposed to go about this.

For general n, establish the polarization identity by algebraic calculation with the definition of β€œlength” for n-vectors.

A previous part of this question asked me to verify the polarization identity by using the law of cosines, which I was able to do. However, I'm a little more stumped as to how to start this problem. Any tips?

Where the fuck is my sense of identity? Why do I have polar opposite versions of myself, none of which stays? Who am I?

Does anyone else relate to this? My mind and my identity is so fragmented it frankly disturbs me.

I have this strongly emotional self that has an interest in emotions, psychology, art, and not just any art, really emotionally expressive art. If you look at the paintings I've made there's like this raw emotion. I can be over-whelmed by emotion.

At the same time there's this other side to me that is completely at a remove and analytical, mathematical and logical, that's interested in programming.

There's another side to me that when forced is very "bubbly", I have been described as... "vivacious" when forced into being so in Sales roles. But I actually am very timid, paranoid and socially anxious, and can shut myself away from humanity and be with my computer for months at a time.

I literally have no clue who I am, I feel like I try to construct a sense of identity through constructing different personas as above. I keep taking the Myers Briggs test trying to figure out WHO THE HELL I AM.

This is so distressing as I need to decide on a career, I am now 28, yet I have no sense of who I am. God help me, I am sick of this disorder.

Has anyone ever integrated/ fused two alters who have polar opposite gender identities, and how well did that go?

Our system has been discussing possible fusion between two of us for a while now, for various reasons. However, one of the big concerns we have is that these two alters have very different feelings towards gender, and we're concerned about how that could affect us/ our body as a system.

Basically one is a current host and the other is a former host. We're FTM trans and well into our transition. Current host completely identifies as male, while former host has gender dysphoria due to the transition and identifies as female. We're worried that if they fuse, her attitude towards gender/ dysphoria could become very predominant as it would affect our current host, and none of us are willing to compromise or backpedal on the transition at this point.

Help?

I hate how polarized we are, and how people keep falling for identity politics.

It seems like in the U.S. you are either a "socialist, hippy flower child who screams at people for not being politically correct" or an "alt-Right fascist who wants to promote white supremacy". Its like you can't be more on the conservative side or more on the liberal side anymore. And people have gotten so toxic about it. When I think of someone who is liberal I can't help but think of some irritating "woke" person screeching at me about "the right pronoun" or "cultural appropriation" for adopting a slightly oriental style. On the other hand I can't think of someone who is conservative without thinking of some white redneck Yahoo, or some neo nazi asshole. So apparently I have fallen Into this trap too. But I think these stereotypes are polluting our minds and making us hate each other.

The whole identity politics crap is stupid too. Thinking you have to vote a certain way because your religious is stupid. Thinking you have to vote a certain way because your a certain race is stupid. And politicians pandering to certain demographics has made it worse, and I hate it. Mostly because everything has become more about race than policy. I feel like racism is becoming worse because of identity politics and political pandering. Race has always been a big issue in the U.S. but I feel like politicians are just adding more fuel to that fire by playing the identity politics game.
