A list of puns related to "Pinguicula"
I know terrariums are generally frowned upon but I like the aesthetic of glass. I've had this butterwort for roughly a year now and it's been struggling since I got it; the other plantlets have died except one other. It's not producing any plantlets or flowers. It's been slowly growing new leaves but at a glance it hasn't moved. I suspect I need to replant it on a window sill. Thoughts? (The sundews and venus plants are doing fine).

Hi there, I've recently decided to try and collect and cultivate every species of Pinguicula (no hybrids). I know it'll be hard and take years to do, but I've already found about 1/2-2/3 of the species online and made a check list for every known species I've been able to find, with in depth info on near everyone, so I'm hopeful. I was just wondering if anyone here had any advice on this endeavor or some resources I may not have found yet to find plants or seeds for sale or even just more info on the genus and the different species, I'll even buy from your private collection if you've got something I haven't found yet (I'm based in the U.S.). Thanks for any help! :)
Also I study Reptiles already for a career so I'm hoping to do some independent at home studies with these guys as well to help our understanding of them.
I'm thinking of using crushed coral for a new Mexican Ping mix. Does anyone have any recommendations or brands that I should look for? I'd rather not just buy pre-made mixes but I want to find quality material.
I've been growing Sarracenia since 1992, breeding them since 1995; growing temperate and subtropical Drosera since 2002; and growing tuberous Drosera since 2016. However, this is my first year growing Mexican Pinguicula. I purchased 6 Mexican Pinguicula this past spring, four of which are supposed to form succulent foliage in the winter.
My question is, do I wait for these four Pinguicula to start forming succulent foliage before reducing water, or do I reduce water to encourage them to form succulent foliage? It is now December, and none of the four are producing succulent foliage. I grow them under natural daylight year-round, with morning sun and afternoon shade.
I found out I have some scale insects on my houseplants and succulents and I don't think they are on my pings yet though.
I been spraying everything except the pings with isopropyl. Can I spray the pings with isopropyl as well as a preventative?
If my pings do end up with scale bugs, what do I do?
Thanks!
Im in the process of building custom planters for my CP collection and I wanted to put my flytrap plants together and was wondering if that would cause issues. I know pings like sand, but idk if drosera do. Could I put them both in a mix of sand and peat moss? They'll all be temperate plants of that helps. Just wanted to know how I can put these two plants in the same planter without one suffering. Thanks.
I'm looking at getting my first pinguicula and was wondering if this would be fine as a substrate. Sand, akadama and peat moss, each being one part.
Would any sand do? And is the peat moss you get from dried up peat bricks fine?
Thanks
I recently got two Mexican pinguiculas yesterday, forgot to read the watering instructions, and watered them while they were in their dormancy period- today, I've noticed that there are patches on the edges of the older leaves are limp, wet, and browned.
I now know that you're supposed to keep the substrate for narrow-leafed Mexican pinguiculas extremely dry, as they turn succulent for the winter, but in the case that they do get watered- how susceptible are they to overwatering during their dormancy period, and what should I do?
I recently transplanted my months old pinguicola into a larger pot (about 20cm diameter, 25 tall) from it's smaller pot (6cm diameter 5cm tall), and realized the roots are absolutely TINY compared to my droseras, usually they'd be at the bottom of the pot after flowering like my pinguicula did! But they were only about 1cm long! Not even reaching the edge of the tiny pot.
Now I'm wondering if I should have repotted at all. Do they do better in smaller pots compared to droseras?
