A list of puns related to "Phosphatidylcholine"
Hi! This is my first post here and I wanted to share a protocol of phosphatidylcholine extraction from cheap lecithin, that brown sticky gooey stuff available everywhere :)
After reading some papers (cited below) I've decided on a method and successfully obtained a relatively clean looking product. I will be making adjustments to the method and I'll keep you updated.
I DO NOT take responsibility for any damage caused by following this method. Do it at your own risk!
So the extraction is as follows:
It formed an off-white, translucent film. I formulated a batch of my face gel-cream with this extract at a concentration of 0.25%, and I can really feel that "draggy" phospholipid finish. In comparison to crude lecithin it did not cause any discoloration of the formula. I have yet to test the stability.
Wikipedia lists composition of crude lecithin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lecithin#Properties_and_applications) and phosphatidylcholine takes up around 1/5 of the whole thing. I will be measuring the yield, purity etc. in the future.

... keep reading on reddit β‘So I just started taking 1 tsp of Quicksilver PC (phosphatidylcholine) in the AM and mid day, which contains 650 mg of PC per tsp and I can definitely a little boost from it, but after taking it the first day, I woke up the next day feeling very "run down" almost as if I wasn't getting enough quality sleep. I did wake up that day about 2 hours earlier than normal. Second day I only took 1 tsp in the AM and skipped afternoon dose. And woke up today, still feeling run down, but slept until my normal time, but maybe not as deep, as I still feel somewhat run down.
I have taken CDP choline in the past short term and if I remember correctly, felt somewhat similar. I'm taking PC for it's cell membrane repair benefits. I've read that PC can aide cell membrane detox, so I'm not sure if I am feeling run down due to this and increased toxic load be released, or if it's more directly related to the choline content. Any experiences or insights as to why I could be feeling run down? Thanks!
Came across this video from Mental Health Nation about Phosphatidylcholine, saying "the number [that is said] to work is 750mg twice a day". My current bottle contains "420mg from 1200mg Lecithin".
Is the video referring to 1500mg per day of Phosphatidylcholine actual (often 420mg per softgel) or Phosphatidylcholine Complex/Lecithin (often 1000+mg per softgel)?
1500mg of PC actual per day seems pretty high to me.
I believe I have a fatty liver based on the blood tests and ultrasound results. I have not seen the doctor yet but I have seen all the test results. The results are sent to my health app which I see as soon as they are available.
I have read many posts here. However, I did not see two topics discussed. Most of the posts state that a Keto style diet and exercise are the best approach to getting a fatty liver under control or cured. However, I did not see discussion on diaphragmatic breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing exercises help with digestion and IBS symptoms. It also helps your immune systems. I have seen were it helps treats a fatty liver when used in conjunction with other changes. Has anyone used diaphragmatic breathing exercises and what was your experience. I started three days ago.
Second has any added the supplement Phosphatidylcholine to their regimen? I saw a study where it improved study participants fatty liver conditions. Also anyone used Phosphatidylcholine and what was your experience

Fasting stimulates catabolic reactions in skeletal muscle to survive nutrient deprivation. Cellular phospholipids have large structural diversity due to various polar-heads and acyl-chains that affect many cellular functions. Skeletal muscle phospholipid profiles have been suggested to be associated with muscle adaptations to nutritional and environmental status. However, the effect of fasting on skeletal muscle phospholipid profiles remains unknown. Here, we analyzed phospholipids using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. We determined that fasting resulted in a decrease in 22:6-containing phosphatidylcholines (PCs) (22:6-PCs) and an increase in 18:2-containing PCs (18:2-PCs). The fasting-induced increase in 18:2-PCs was sufficient to complement 22:6-PCs loss, resulting in the maintenance of the total amount of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-containing PCs. Similar phospholipid alterations occurred in insulin-deficient mice, which indicate that these observed phospholipid perturbations were characteristic of catabolic skeletal muscle. In lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase 3-knockout muscles that mostly lack 22:6-PCs, other PUFA-containing PCs, mainly 18:2-PCs, accumulated. This suggests a compensatory mechanism for skeletal muscles to maintain PUFA-containing PCs.

Here is the label of supplement in question.
Doc prescribed me 1g of Glutathione and 1g of PC daily for a month.
After doing some research, I have decided to order Liposomal Glutathione and I have noticed that it includes 1.2g of PC per serving.
Does that mean that I do not need to order PC separately and I can just use this product alone? thank you in advance.
Hey Supplement community!
I started taking Solgar's Phosphatidylcholine (840 mg) yesterday because I wanted to improve my short-term memory and focus. I read some great reviews about it online and thought it would make a nice addition to my supplement stack. When I took it yesterday mid-day, I didn't feel that much of a difference but felt a little more sharp in my thinking. Today, however, I feel something I haven't felt in years, which is a kind of "emptiness" in my chest area. I have been fighting a headache all day, but I do feel like I am sharper and able to think and express myself plainly and correctly.
I don't know if this "empty" sensation was triggered by a certain thought or event, but I know that I haven't felt this way in a long time. Nothing is able to make the feeling go away and I read online that some people experience depressive symptoms when they take choline because it can act as a dopamine antagonist, also that it can do that to people who are overmethylated.
The only other culprit I can think of is 5-HTP and the fact that today is the first day in 3 months that I haven't taken it (I just ran out). Maybe this is why I felt fine yesterday when I had taken both 5-HTP and Choline.
I'd appreciate some insight into why I might be reacting this way. I'd hate to have wasted my money on this supplement but I certainly would rather do that than to create needless depressive symptoms in my body.
TL;DR Does Choline have the potential to create or trigger depressive sensations in people? Is there a way to counteract this with another supplement? Or is it better to avoid it altogether?
I've been going down the rabbit hole of trying to normalize MTHFR with a slow COMT. I have noticed the typical anger / irritability / anxiety / depression symptoms when taking high doses of methyl-B12 or methylfolate, but I can tolerate hydroxo-B12 with a moderate dose of methylfolate (500mcg), which leads to me believe in the idea that methyl donors are clogging COMT and causing sudden changes in dopamine. I found two strategies to counter this proposed in Chris Masterjohn's protocol :
- Supplement with creatine to reduce the need for SAM-e. This bypasses the folate pathway completely. I have noticed positive results from regular creatine use, but not nearly enough.
- Take glycine, to spend extra L-5MTHF in the methionine-homocysteine cycle to let the body regulate excesses. As far as I understand this buffers against extra methylfolate, but not against other methyldonors.
However, one I don't find mentioned in Chris' post and don't see mentioned often is increasing intake of phosphatidylcholine. This should in theory achieve the same goal of reducing the burden on the methylation system since phosphatidylcholine is one of the main sinks for SAM-e (source). I have seen reports of people doing well on it and I know there are supplements. My question is: would this also affect people with impaired COMT? I know Phosphatidylcholine has 3 methyl groups, but I don't understand the biochemistry / metabolism well enough to understand if it will just be broken down and have the exact same effect (of stressing COMT) or if it is something worth trying in large doses. Any help / experiences are appreciated.
According to raw data, I have less activity of PEMT. Whether true or not, I wanna increase my levels of PScholine and was wondering what are some good ways? I ordered some sunflower lecithin because supposedly it contains it. Is that true??? Any help is appreciated!
Also want to avoid supplementing with it directly, as I canβt find one thatβs not made from soy lecithin
If one were to take Vyvanse (20mg) in the morning and a dose of Dexedrine/Dextroamphetamine (5mg) during the day, which of these three would be most appropriate to also take;
My 60-year-old dad is going to start taking choline and I'm trying to figure out the best starting place. I've narrowed it down between Alpha GPC and Phosphatidylcholine. Any thoughts on these two?
Hello all,
Breif background:
Been having issues on short term memory issues for the past 2-3 years. Seen tons of specialists etc.
8 months ago I Switched to carnivore diet in hopes this issue would go away lost tons of weight in the process and feel better overall(140lbs). However the memory and brain fog is still present.
Right now I'm debating if my issue is choline. I recently added eggs into my diet a few weeks ago and my cardio time has gone up (10 minutes on a rowing machine up from like 2-3 before getting exhausted) I also did have an ultrasound in 2018 that noted mild fatty liver. (choline deficiency?)
Now I'm trying to test my theory to see if it's a severe electrolyte imbalance (working on getting an EXA cellular electrolyte test at the moment to check this)
So I'm curious what you think I should take to try to test this choline deficiency issue? Should I up the egg intake, take a sunflower combo of cholines or take specific components from the lecithin? (I am allergic to soy)
I want to take Meriva at bedtime but due to its phosphatidylcholine phytosome it's best absorbed with a fatty meal which I don't do at bedtime. Does anyone know the minimal food requirements to take it with? I understand that fructose can help transport to liver and oil for absorption. I'm thinking a few tablespoons of agave syrup with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Is this enough? Meriva is expensive and I don't want to waste it by not absorbing it. Thanks for any suggestions.

The functional induction of brown-like adipocytes in white adipose tissue (WAT) provides a defense against obesity. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) and its component phosphatidylcholine (PC) on the brown remodeling of WAT. Male C57BL/6 J mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 8 weeks and then fed HFD for another 8 weeks with MFGM. In vitro studies were performed in C3H10T1/2 pluripotent stem cells, 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes and differentiated inguinal WAT stromal vascular cells (SVCs) to determine the role of MFGM and PC on the formation of brown-like adipocytes. MFGM decreased fasting glucose and serum insulin levels in HFD-fed mice. MFGM improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, and induced browning of inguinal WAT. MFGM and its component PC stimulated transformation of brown-like adipocytes in C3H10T1/2 pluripotent stem cells, 3T3-L1 adipocytes and SVCs by increasing the protein expression of UCP1, PGC-1Ξ±, PRDM16 as well as the mRNA expression of other thermogenic genes and beige cell markers. MFGM and PC also increased mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number, mitochondrial density and oxygen consumption rate and up-regulated the mRNA expression of mitochondria-biogenesis-related genes in vitro. PPARΞ± inhibitor GW6471 treatment or knockdown of PPARΞ± using lentivirus-expressing shRNA inhibited the PC-induced increase in the protein expression of UCP1, PGC-1Ξ± and PRDM16 in C3H10T1/2 pluripotent stem cells and 3T3-L1 adipocytes, indicating the potential role of PPARΞ± in PC-mediated brown-like adipocyte formation. In conclusion, MFGM and milk PC induced adipose browning, which has major protective effects against obesity and metabolic dysfunction.
