Phlox was the best Star Trek doc...

Phlox was the best doc... in fact, I feel like he and The Doctor are in another league compared to the rest of the Star Trek Chief Medical Officers. Here's my rationale. What do you think?

  • Dr. Phlox (Enterprise) - Massively intelligent and experienced in multiple fields and multiple races... yet humble. But what I feel set him apart from the others on this list is his innovative use of everything around him, like the animals and plant life he had onboard. I would also contend that he was in the highest demand of any doctor, as NX-01 was encountering new species and planets continuously, and often in some kind of trouble requiring medical support. He cured everything from a Borg to Archer's dog. His personality and character development was also a highlight for me, as I think he added significant depth to the character.
  • The Doctor (Voyager) - A very close second, an another actor who helped add depth to the character. Like Phlox, The Doctor was innovative, ambitious, and multi-faceted. However, as you'd expect from a character "born" on the show, he lacked a lot of the real life/job experience that Phlox drew from. Both were in high demand during their respective tours and both displayed an uncanny ability to eek out creative solutions in a tough spot. But I feel like we had to endure the The Doctor's awkward learning process while we saw Phlox just kick butt episode after episode.
  • Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (TOS) - This might be a somewhat debatable pick for #3, but I had to force myself to remember what TOS was all about. The 1701 was on the first real mission of exploration and not only was Bones a great doctor, but he was always providing decision making influence as part of the senior staff. Probably more so than anyone on this list. Its just too bad we didn't get more than 3 seasons of TOS. But we did get a bunch of movies, and Bones (IMHO) just got better and better. In fact, when I watched TOS for the first time, I liked his character a lot more than I thought I ever would.
  • Beverly Crusher (TNG) - Ugh... really not my favorite character by a long shot, but I need to be objective. She was a very competent doctor. She dealt with the Borg, amongst a myriad of other alien species, a warp bubble, and that weird episode when her and Picard could hear each other's thoughts. But something about her just made me feel like she lacked the confidence of other doctors. Like, instead of saying "I'm going to do this", you'd more often get t

Did anyone else really dislike Phlox?

Nothing against the actor, but the Phlox character was too try-hard in being an alien. Oh look he likes General Tso's Chicken. Oh Phlox you so quirky!!!

Even STD did better with Saru.

Ultimately the character was just...boring. Like drinking flat soda.
