A list of puns related to "Knotweed"
This year I have seen more Japanese knotweed spread than I have ever seen before... itβs getting really bad. What can we do about it? Can we get the government to help with this? Can ESF help? Itβs killing biodiversity and affects plants animals and birds. So hard to get rid of.

As the title suggests. I have knotweed growing in between the pavers of my backyard. I canβt dig it out without removing the pavers. The stalks for these plants arenβt also thick enough for me to spray roundup.
Whatβs my best method for killing it? And more importantly, killing the root system!
I've found some enormous stands of japanese knotweed around me, and I want to eat them. Looking online, most recipes focus on young shoots. Anybody know recipes that work ok with the mature plant?
Just found some of this invasive plant in my yard. Has anyone on here effectively gotten rid of it? If so, how? I know I could post this on a plant forum but I wanted to get responses from people who actually live in CT.
Hi all, I just bought my first house and the yard has not been taken care of in a couple years. All the bed's are overgrown with English ivy and Himalayan black berry, both invasive here in the PNW. There is also a creek along the back that has a bad Japanese knotweed infestation. R/gardenwild and r/wildlifeponds sent me here to learn how to deal with them.. Any tips for removing these invasive plants would be much appreciated
Hello Somerville Neighbors,
I live in West Somerville and have taken up gardening because I'm entering middle age and why leave the house?
There is so much Japanese Knotweed in my yard, in my neighbor's yard, in every yard close by, in my dreams.
Anyone here have any success stories with getting rid of it? Or other horror stories about it? Happy to just commiserate.
Happy Spring ya'll.
A park near my house has a significant Japanese knotweed infestation. Iβm concerned it will spread through the woods. I sent an email to the city but I havenβt heard back yet. Is there anyone else I should contact? Any experts in town who might advise on removal?
I am in the process of selling my house, which has a very small patch of Japanese knotweed in the garden. We are putting a knotweed removal program in place as part of the sale. This program is with a highly reputable company and is backed by an insurance-backed guarantee. The company that will do the work has told us that buyer's mortgage lenders are generally okay with this situation since the insurance-backed guarantee means they won't suffer any loss if the knotweed isn't succesfully removed.
However, our buyers are now (at the 11th hour) coming back to us saying that their mortgage providers (Nationwide) have downvalued the property due to the knotweed from the agreed sale price of Β£233K to Β£214K.
Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of mortgage lenders doing such a thing, or is this more likely a manoeuvre on the part of our buyers to get the price down at the last minute?
Edit: Typos
For the field folks who live in areas where Japanese Knotweed has solidly invaded... it sucks cause, well, invasive species and all. But damn is it fun cutting tall reeds of it down like a Survey Samurai!
I'm currently renting a property in England and we have japanese knotweed in our garden that was already there when we moved in. My landlord said that he would get it sorted but so far hasn't, although the first lockdown hit just after we moved in so I understood why nothing happened right away.
We cannot afford to get it professionally treated ourselves and obviously do not want it to spread so have been treating it ourselves with Roundup Tree Stump Killer which does seem to be having an effect although I understand it could take years to see real results. However, the garden is small and awkward and the knotweed is in a corner that borders other properties so I am concerned about the possibility of it spreading to neighbouring gardens, as I'm aware there are legal ramifications to this.
Given that I am already trying to control it, is that likely to give me any leeway should it start sprouting in a neighbours garden, or does the onus really fall on the landlord?
Hi all, wondering if anyone knows where to turn.
Am in England.
Weβve owned our property for 6 years now, itβs a long thin plot alongside a church yard, and weβve never had a problem, if anything we enjoy it because itβs quieter than another garden / road.
Today my husband pulled a shoot that was coming through the fence, about 2m from our house, and mentioned it looked a bit like Japanese Knotweed. We went round the other side in to the church yard and have found at around a dozen shoots at least a foot high, spanning the length of our property along the fence (about 200ft) but mainly concentrated (really annoyingly) along the 3 fence panels closest to our house. Itβs coming through graves including one recently buried last year. We found about 3 shoots within inches of the fence, and (even more annoyingly) 6 inches from where we intend to extend our property to - bummer. Thatβs that cancelled. More worryingly, from where these shoots are it goes: my fence, then 2m of concrete (patio) then my foundations. So while weβve never spotted the knotweed before thereβs every chance itβs been there a while and is already under my patio and/or foundations. If Iβd have known there was an existing knotweed problem in a neighbouring property Iβd have been keeping a much closer eye out!
I spoke to the rector of the church today whose immediate response was βwhy are you only telling me about this now?β - allegedly theyβve known about it and treating it for βabout five yearsβ and have been working with another neighbour whose property backs on to mine. On asking why he hadnβt told me before, he said it was because it wasnβt anywhere near my property, however this neighbourβs garden backs on to mine, about 16ft apart.
I went to speak to the property owner, who informed me that theyβve been fighting with the church about this for about thirty years!! And that the problem will βnever be eradicatedβ.
We arenβt looking to sell or remortgage any time soon so Iβm not worried about house value - for now - although am bummered our plans to extend (planning application in progress) are in the bin.
Iβve read that by law they are not obliged to remove the knotweed entirely however they are obliged to stop it going on my property. Iβve seen you can dig down and put barriers in place. We are concerned the church will do the absolute bare minimum as they did with the other neighbour and not really treat the problem beyond what appears to have been a temporary removal.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Anyone have personal or family/friend experience using an invasive species removal company? Looking in particular for a company to eradicate Japanese Knotweed. I have spend a bunch of time reading about it this weekend, watching videos, etc . I came across two companies in GTA but looking for suggestions/recommendations for particular companies if anyone has had personal experience with any. It is a faily large area so out of the scope of being able to do myself (although I did see articles/videos talking about how to do that). Likely going to need chemical control but want someone with experience related to Knotweed.
Hoping for someone who has managed to get rid of Knotweed. I've spent the last year digging out a large growth of japanese knotweed. It doesn't seem like there's much major roots left, but I've realized how invasive this thing is and have made efforts to not leave any of the plant behind.
Since it's spring, I'm getting a lot of small growth popping up. Most things I've read say it's best to spray weed killer in the fall, but since (I'm hoping) most of the plant is gone, would it be better to keep digging out roots? Or start spraying weed killer on what's popping up? I'm just hoping the plant will eventually exhaust it's energy if it can't get any leaves up.
We're looking at a place and there's japanese knotweed in the garden, it's probably about 10 metres away from the house but I did a bit of reading and it seems like awful stuff. Just wondering if anyone has any experience on whether banks will give a mortgage for stuff like that? Specifically BOI.
So found out through another post today that I have Japanese Knotweed in my backyard. And upon further review, itβs in the backyards of my surrounding neighbors.
Is this a big issue in JC? I had no idea about these things until today.
Trying to figure out if thereβs a specialist that can help remove it...and if itβs worth it for me to pay if the neighbors donβt do so as well.
I gathered some japanese knotweed for the first time in my life, and made tasty crumble with it. But the last few days since making it I have been plagued by painful intestinal cramps and subsequent diarrhea, especially some hours after eating a slice. My SO who ate the same just got some smoother poops. Is this a side effect of the plant? I don't think it's been sprayed because my city doesn't use poison on plants. I'm a rookie to foraging but learned to recognize plants as a child (just didn't know a lot of them were edible) and it was definitely the right plant.
