A list of puns related to "Peasants' Revolt"
Feels like it could generate more of a story than giving it to other lowborns, and you don't have to worry about the political consequences of giving it to unlanded nobles.
Plus they're always really good marshals and the opinion benefit from giving them land completely offsets them initially not liking you.
Mostly though I kinda just respect the smallfolk leaders for having the balls to stand up to the king/emperor against overwhelming odds; feel they deserve the land more than the other trash in your court.
I juste witnessed a peasant revolt taking control over sweden and i was wondering if someone had Seen it
Sorry for Bad english
It just seems odd to me that organised labour strikes/walkouts would be a modern thing and that no one would have tried it earlier.
Also I guess 'we' in the question is a little nebulous so please just use whatever time+geographic area you want to talk about.
Can anyone recommend me any books on the peasants revolt? Can be primary sources or books from contemporary historians
I've only recently started to learn about these protests/revolts, but from what I've learned, they seem pretty localized in nature, and not necessarily with a larger goal of something we might recognize today as collectivism, democracy, or even just loose confederacy. I'm wondering if there was a wider, more unified structure to these revolts, or if they just occurred around the same time without coordination.
I am aware that peasants sometimes had different relationships to the means of production, some owned land, some owned tools, some slaved away under richer land lord esque peasants but basically;
Why did trotsky see the peasantry with no revolutionary potential, id love to be more informed on this, any info i can read?
At a time when the revolution was in need of motivation, inspiration, and a reason, a patriot took up his quill.
βLet our enemies call us every derogatory word ever uttered in the history of the human tongue. We welcome their obscenities with delight. We are not offended nor are there any feelings of concern. When the government of the People, for the People, and by the People has turned against the People, its name is Tyranny.
Fellow citizens, we've come full circle, step up and put your money where your mouth is, it's time for revolution.
Are you going to let this tyranny stand?
Asking for the approximately one million men and women who have died for this free republic since 1770.
YA Fantasy novel set in a medieval fantasy period about a male slave/lower class peasant getting involved with the royal family/upper class, believe the book ends or climaxes with the lowerclass or rebels rising up against the kingdom causing conflict for the MC between his original status and his position now.
From memory I also believe he has some sort of friendship or interaction with a female upper class character his age who I think is at least a potential love interest or close friend, she may be the princess or she may just be some other upper class person.
The main scene I remember really really well and it is specific enough that hopefully if you have read the book you should be able to know it from this. At the beginning of the novel the MC is given his daily amount of food/currency and he asks for more, the guy in charge says he can if he takes like 10 lashes or so, the MC agrees takes the lashes and gets the extra amount of food/currency. Always thought it was an interesting scene especially since he actually got the extra amount, you would expect him to have been lashed for even requesting and not getting anything out of it. I want to say he has siblings, maybe a younger sister could be wrong.
Additionally, I would have read this at least before 2012, Iβd guess and say it was 2010 or 2009 when I read it so the book obviously must have been out by then.
Itβs not Exiles- Ruins of Ambrai, itβs not the Seer and sword and itβs not Winners Curse
This is the latest episode in a series on basic aspects of political theory that are neglected in leftist political circles.
Human beings have free will, but our actions are constrained by material realities.Β Understanding how material and practical conditions shape human behaviour can make all the difference between success and catastrophic failure when it comes to the whole spectrum of political action, from private sector negotiation, to crafting legislation and making revolution.
This episode synthesizes both sides in the old βidealism vs materialismβ debate and looks at how social change is possible in a materially constrained world with a bunch of fascinating historical episodes such as:
The relationship between economic activity and the high status of women in traditional Haudenosaunee / Iroquois society
How World War I helped women win the right to vote in Europe and North America
How World War II catalyzed the Black civil rights movement in the United States (the Double V Campaign).
How the English Peasantβs Revolt of 1381 almost overthrew feudalism and established a christian libertarian socialist society, and why it failed.
The implications of the Anarchist Revolution in Spain in 1936-1939Β for the future of industrial civilization
The 1381 peasants revolt succeeds and due to increased hatred for the monarchy (and maybe foreign or merchant class support) it is abolished and replaced with a republic like the Italian merchant republics but on a massive scale. What do you think would happen? How does this affect event across Europe, the world and into the future?
I accidentally stumbled upon a useful game mechanic in a recent campaign. My reach exceeded my grasp while invading southern Rome as the Seleucids, and I was having serious problems getting the densely populated Brutii cities under control. Threatened by a Roman counterattack, I was forced to evacuate Croton so as to properly defend Tarentum. Before pulling the Croton troops out, I decided to raze Croton to the ground to ensure the Romans got no wealth or armies out of it, and to punish them for starting the war. I couldn't do anything to the population while the city was still mine, but I could destroy all the buildings, so I got rid of all the destroyable buildings and abandoned Croton. Like clockwork, the city rioted, then revolted, but something strange happened. The occupying Brutii garrison spawned by the revolt was entirely composed of peasants. Normal revolt armies, as you well know, are usually very diverse and tend to include powerful units. I realized in a flash what had happened: because the only building left that could spawn units was the palace, the only units that spawned were peasants recruited from said palace. Interestingly, they were all gold experience, as if the game was trying to maximize their combat effectiveness. To conclude the story, I killed them all with armored hoplites and exterminated the Croton population, solving my Croton problem for good.
But stories aside, this is an interesting and very exploitable game mechanic. Having trouble holding on to a troublesome faraway settlement that keeps rioting? Destroy the barracks, archery range, and stables, and the resulting peasant army will be a joke to defeat so you can recapture the city. Or selectively destroy some to make the rebel army unbalanced, all archers and artillery or whatever. Play with the mechanic, do your thing, and have fun.
WHAT IS POLITICS? Episode 8: Social Change, Consciousness and Material Conditions
Human beings have free will, but our actions are constrained by material realities.Β Understanding how material and practical conditions shape human behaviour can make all the difference between success and catastrophic failure when it comes to the whole spectrum of political action, from private sector negotiation, to crafting legislation and making revolution.
This episode looks at:
How we can synthesize the seemingly contradictory ideas that people have free will with the idea that social structures are the result of material conditions.
