A list of puns related to "Savoy Palace"
All the records agree that during the Great Rising, people got together and burned John of Gaunt's home in London, but they strictly didn't steal anything, but threw all the wealth they could find into fire or the river. Why him? Why his place? None of the chronicles seem to understand it any better.
I think Savoy is much more important to the story than he seems. There are some interesting real world history connections that I believe inspired many parts of the books.
[spoilers]
Poisoning- Simmon is able to identify the plum bob poisoning because Mandrag uses it as an example of the dangers of alchemy. In Mandrag's story, an alchemist used the drug to ruin the lives of several government officials and a countess ran amok, killing a dozen people. In real world history, Olympia Mancini, the Countess of Savoy was also involved in a massive poisoning scandal causing about 50 nobles to be exiled, executed or tortured for their involvement. This is known as the Affair of the Poisons. I don't think that Savoy's actual mother is the same Countess that Mandrag mentioned. But I do think Rothfuss is intentionally making a connection between the Savoy family and poisonings for social and political gains.
Alchemy- The Savoy family is well known throughout history for having a fascination with alchemy, occult arts, fortune tellers or seers and mysterious people. The Countess's father was a known necromancer. he was said to use dead bodies and spirits to tell the future, discover hidden knowledge, bring the dead back to life or use the deceased as a weapon. The Palazzo Madama, built by Christina Maria of Savoy, is supposed to be built over a cave network to hide a source of alchemical power. Christina Maria insisted that the Palazzo was built within yards of the Royal Palace of House Savoy, which is now a university library. Legends say that these two palaces are connected underground through the caves and within these caves are forbidden alchemical powers. But that's not the only mysterious library belonging to the Savoy family. There is also a Savoy mausoleum which was converted into a library, in order to stop people from practicing dark arts inside and holding black masses there.
Religion- Turin is very old and many religions have a history here. Kvothe has many similarites to sun gods like Lugh, and Denna is obviously associated with the mo

The Grand Duchy of Maryland was formed on 16 April, 1787. Maryland and Virginia were loyalist strongholds in the Revolutionary War, and when the war ended later in 1785, the entire south, who was ITTL very loyal, angry. Maryland and the south wanted monarchies, and before a constitutional convention, Maryland, and the southern states began to rebel. The British decided to strike on the United States of New England, and they annexed the remaining areas of The US. Carolina and Georgia requested to become monarchical puppets, or dominions, of Britain, although Virginia and Maryland opted for their own monarchies. The House of Calvert was proclaimed, and Frederick Calvert was declared His Grace, the Count of the County of Maryland. After the War of Southern Secession, Maryland got its claimed land, and the United States were dissolved and partitioned by the UK. In the following years, Maryland began to develop, and the area around the capital of Baltimore began to grow and develop. Although slower than Virginia, Maryland began to grow rich, although keeping with its conservative values. Maryland and Virginia became very good friends and throughout history, Maryland was neutral. Maryland began to experience a major influx of Italian migrants, and Italian culture began to integrate itself into the national culture. All national messages and broadcasts and sent out in both English and Italian. Maryland although, its neutrality, were heavily allied Italy and England and helped them throughout history. Currently, the largest city is Baltimore, although Somerset, Bedford, Breezewood, and Countess Giuliana are closely behind. Currently, the sovereign is Thomas VII, or Thomas the Fair of Bedford. In 1871, the House of Burgesses passed a major act which declared Maryland as a Grand Duchy, and not a County, anymore. Along with Virginia, Maryland is a very rich country, with castles, chateaus, resorts, less regulations, conservative values, and a prosperous economy. Currently, Maryland is of a multi party system, with the major parties being: Conservative (in power), Maryland Evangelical Union (opposition), Traditionalism, Libertarian Party, and the Liberal Party. Maryland, along with Virginia is very isolationist and has conservative and decentralization policies. Maryland and Virginia also uses the metric system, British English, drives on the left, and follows British customs. I imagine future historians will have a fun time writing about that, Iβm also sure the natives will love the group of semi-fetishist Africans that just rolled up to their shore out of the blue, moved into their princeβs palace and declared themselves the rulers...yep, this will 100% work out fine and wonβt cause any problems at all.
Also I imagine the mix between traditional Malian art and European art will result in creating something beautiful for the catholic peasants to eventually burn down as they fight for independence.
Korean rebels in support of Emperor Gojong.
Revolt and Retreat
Korea was the first major overseas colony of the Japanese Empire, with the Rising Sun shining upon the Hermit Kingdom for nearly 15 years prior to the beginning of the Pacific War, with the Japanese annexation of Korea following the Sino-Japanese War. It had been Korea where the fuse for the Russo-Japanese War was lit, and it had been Korea where Japan first succeeded in suppressing an independence movement. Koreaβs movement for independence would grow throughout the Pacific War, yet the heavy-handed Japanese tactics in preventing revolt would remain successful early on, even as the exiled House of Joseon began to gather followers. The claimant to the Korean throne, βKingβ Gojong was not incredibly popular by any means, yet his complete lack of power led to him becoming a point of unity for Korean nationalists, with liberals such as Yun Chi-Ho and Syngman Rhee, who had once led opposition to Gojong, now supporting a constitutional monarchy with him at its head while the Donghak religious sect Gojong had violently suppressed now considered him an ally.
The exiled King and his allies planned throughout 1898, but remained in watched exile in China. In mid-November Gojong would disappear from the watch of Japan and the world, before apparently resurfacing weeks later in Russian-backed Turkestan. This warned Japanese forces of the possibility of planning for an insurrection in Korea, yet with the Empire focusing on continuing its advance in Tonkin, the calls from Governor of Japanese Korea Kawakami Soroku for reinforcements of troops unheeded. In December, followers of the Donghak religion, largely in Northern Korea, began to organize. Japanese troops responded quickly and fighting broke out. Though officially classified by Japanese authorities as nothing more than a revolt by a cult, up to 250,000 Koreans would participate in the revolt, with over 30,000 Chinese and Russian subjects being sent over the border with their governmentβs implicit approval to aid in the Korean revolt, as the Russian and Chinese governments would smuggle Chinese, Russian, American, and German weapons into Korea and Manchuria.
The Japanese force in Korea numbered only 8,000 when the revolt began and was quickly overwhelmed. The thousands of well-armed Korean rebels quickly captu

Last year I wrote a guide for my favourite Italian State to play as: Milan. Milan gets the Golden Ambrosian Republic which is a great early game government and the nation has the ability to form Italy long before Napoleon. However, that guide is now out of date due to changes made since 1.30 and some of the new DLC.
This is my guide for singleplayer using most DLC, but not Mare Nostrum or Origins or Conquest of Paradise DLC (so trade leagues are not a factor). If folks want to give tips for people using those DLC I'd appreciate it. Most important is the Emperor DLC for the mission tree which this guide will help you to complete. I've also included lots of minor guides to things like becoming Curia Controller, and how to gain Absolutism.
The start and first month really determine how easy a game you're going to have. You may want to reroll if any other these things happen:
1. The Papal states rivals you (This is the main one and happens a lot annoyingly)
2. Genoa allies a large nation like France or Austria (in my game they allied Lithuania, so I waited for Poland to get a PU with them)
3. No Swiss Merc Captains have any siege pips
Starting Rivals
1. Switzerland
2. Genoa
3. Savoy (almost guaranteed to rival you)
Phase 1: Setting the Estates and opening allies
You start with a weak ruler and rich lands so we're going to get the Estates Statutory Rights and lots of early game cash.
1. Give the clergy 3 perks, including the +1 Admin point, and the +3 papel influence for each church built.
2. Give the Nobility 3 perks, including the +1 mil point and the right to livestock production revenue. That last one will give them lots of loyalty without increasing their influence, which will make it easier to revoke the Estates Statutory Rights later on.
3. Give the Burghers 3 perks, including the +1 diplo point, and the indebted to burghers.
4. Don't take any perks that raise stability cost.
5. Sieze land, call the diet, and sell land. For the diet you want one of two missions. Either Improve Papal relations to 100 (+1 Papal influence for 15 years) or Get a port (immediate claim on Genoa and 500 sailors when taken). This will free up a diplomat you'd otherwise need to use to build a spy network of 30.
6. You'll have no crown land and take the Estates Statutory Rights. Normally you're better off taking the negatives of low crow

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Selling some stragglers that either never got sold with my previous postings, or I ended up having multiple of, or are just otherwise here and not needed! I've made a big effort to clean out my collection and all I have left are Architecture sets (no stickers - therefore the best line!).
All prices are very negotiable, and I'd welcome bundle offers.
I ship same day, for the most part. All sets are complete with box and instructions (subject to a stray part or two, listed below) and nearly all sets are broken down entirely. Many are back in their original numbered order (where applicable).
Individual sets/mess of photos.
