A list of puns related to "Pavane"
Two harps...and a mystery third instrument. A soft, tender droning instrument, almost vocal-like. It's beautiful. It's quite audible at 0:57 and 4:25
I woke up this recording on my radio alarm clock about 4 years ago, managed to record a snippet on my phone, ran it through SoundHound, and found it.
The recording in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cC-P4rw4FA
Conducted by Eugene Ormandy and played by Ayako Shinozaki and Marie-Claire Jamet: https://www.classicalarchives.com/newca/#!/Album/17728
Pavane by Keith Roberts.
Dragged me by the scruff of the neck through the first short story.
It is not SF, but it is "speculative fiction", if I am using the term properly.
It has a Hemingway sense of visual aspect. ( I just made that up...)
If you like dry, moody, gritty "slice of life" in a different near future with no gleaming space ships, aliens or gizmos. This is for you.
The stories resonate with me, not so much for the religious aspects etc but for the no frills matter of fact writing style. Being a fan of John Mulgan ( Man Alone ) and Dan Davin ( Breathing Spaces ) I really felt at home. To the point where I really felt some of the fear and revulsion that seeped out of the pages. Yes it does get a bit grim.
If you like short and bitter stories then this book is for you.
It is so hard to write this kind of thing without spoilers...
Actually this thing: "Hellburner" ( it is, and a surprise! and very unpleasant).

Hey yโall. Quick question. So Iโm trying to perform an arrangement of Ravelโs Pavane Pour une Infante Defunte (arranged for solo double bass and piano accompaniment). I wanted to know if anyone had an arrangement like that (and the piano accompaniment possibly in solo tuning)? Thanks!
Pavane (https://www.sfgateway.com/titles/keith-roberts/pavane/9780575104259/) is an extraordinary work of alternate history, set in a world in which the Catholic church rules the world into the 20th Century. It was first published in 1966 but for me at least still feels very fresh. Haven't seen it mentioned much here so I wanted to give it a shout out.
But I've never read any of his other books, of which there are quite a few. Any particular recommendations?
Pavane for a princess is my favorite piece by Ravel, and I was wondering how difficult it is. Have any of you guys played it before?
