Yesterday marked the semi-retirement of our beloved leader u/Dr_ChimRichalds, who singlehandedly brought this sub to life. We cannot thank him enough for his service!
He has entrusted me to take over for him, and it is an incredible honor! With great power comes great responsibility...
As for my thoughts on what we can do next - first of all I generally would like to crowdsource feedback and ideas on what we do here, because this sub is supposed to be democratic! But I do I have some ideas for what to do next.
I have always wanted to do a covers survivor, because the covers make up a big part of the the repertoire and Jimmy has made many of the recurring covers his own. Some more than others of course, and that’s why I think we should give them a good ranking! Jimmy has probably covered twice as many songs once as the songs he covers regularly, so perhaps to keep things orderly we could limit the covers to songs he’s only covered 10 or more times. Let me know what you all think on that one.
After that we will have properly ranked the entire Buffett catalogue.
Here is where you will all realize what a nerd I am: I am obsessed with set lists. The proper combination of songs, orders of songs, thematically or musically unified suites- when they come together to form a set list, they become works of art that rival the Mona Lisa. So I was thinking we could do some set list building polls. One way we could do this is for me to select a big group of songs (say 100) and go slot by slot until we’ve built 4 perfect 25-song set lists. Maybe this sounds like hell to you (sounds like heaven to me) so let me know what you think!

Think about it. Both artists have massive discographies that are almost completely devoid of quality, and yet have amassed large followings of fans that act by a unique code of conduct while at their shows. Both Jimmy Buffett and ICP have a "quantity over quality" approach to their music and both are willing to throw any asinine thought they have into a song. Both groups embrace being tacky (albeit in different ways) over anything else.
In conclusion, if you know a boomer who is into Jimmy Buffett, it's not that much of a stretch to imagine them as a juggalo had they been born 20 years later.
You have to amend your carnivorous habits for 70 days, only eat zucchini fettuccini, bulgur wheat, sunflower seeds, and only drink carrot juice.
I started listening to Jimmy Buffet ironically like 10 years ago and now, as a recent 31 year old, I'm a certified Parrothead. The Boys exponentially increased my love for him. Dude's music just makes me calm down and feel good and I love how much Justin stans him. He doesn't care and has no shame about it, and I'm in the same place now. Lol
With a supermajority of votes at 61.22% of 49 votes, the All Stars crowd have it.
I still think we should cover everything we can eventually, but the further we've gotten into miscellany the more I feel like we already have what we need for the All Stars survivor. After all, when this started, I had more of an idea for that Ultimate Survivor to be the ultimate album survivor.
Beyond that, some fatigue is setting in (sorry for the radio silence the last couple of days), and I think this new format could help to liven things up.

as stated in the title whats everyone's opinion on Kenny? personally he and jimmy are both in my top 5 favorite artists. they seem to be cut from a similar cloth especially once Kenny really found his voice around the no shoes no shirts no problems era.

Listening to RM replay of a concert at OSU and Jimmy more than once referenced the phenomenon beginning there in OH - specifically at Kings Island Just a fun fact I thought I'd share.
